  1. You should like Shields. Instead of keeping that pesky prospect they went for it and picked up a vet who knows how to win. How great does that look now.

  3. Shes works for Turning Points USA, which is a conservative outreach program for colleges. It's backed by billionaires like Charles Koch and the Mercer family. They do real genius things like sending adults out dressed in diapers to own the libs. Much like Ben Shapiro, she will be called a "genius" for writing hard hitting articles like "Sorry, libs cops are actually cool." Nothing of any real substance.

  4. It might be time to talk about Matt's future in this organization. He is young enough and won't be a free agent until 2023. That makes him potentially a significant piece of the lineup, during the anticipated window of contention. He is beginning to realize his original highly touted potential, when he was drafted in the first round, by the Diamondbacks, back in 2009. Here are some things to consider: 1) He has learned to take walks, which could very well increase, now that he is gaining respect as a legitimate home run hitter. If he can stay patient and take pitches, which are out of the zone, his OBP could very well be good enough to outweigh his sub par batting average. The strike outs will likely remain high, but that has become the norm for baseball, especially for sluggers. 2) Is there any position, which he could adequately play, or is he destined to remain a DH? First base seems to be the only place where he can play passable defense. 3) What team might be willing to trade a player of value, who could fill a greater need for this team's rebuild? Right handed power is something which this team seems to have in excess. There are certainly many other factors to consider, but this is merely an attempt to begin a discussion of Davidson's future role on this team.

  5. This usually happens with repeated ankle sprains or a single traumatic impact. This is a big deal. This is the cartilage that covers the bone. He will have exposed bone in the joint. That flap of cartilage wont cause inflammation any longer but that exposed area will get sore and eventually expand. He will be a case for a joint resurfacing or a total joint replacement later in life. This issue is essentially traumatic arthritis that most people get in the knee.

  6. I agree. They aren’t winning anything next year. Let them get their feet wet then, and have an extra year of control when they are going to need it.

  9. Yes, no problem with it, since they are rebuilding, Maybe it would give Palka more opportunities. He's probably not much better but until he gets a lot of chances you never know for sure. Avi has had plenty of chances since he was acquired.

  10. Well we knew Rodon was going to be out a while. Moncada has missed about 5 games, most have anticipated Avi to regress at least a little. Expecting a team to go through a season totally healthy isn’t realistic. 9-26 is a bit short of even what you were anticipating when you said 69-93. 60-67 the rest of the way seems a bit far fetched.

  11. It also won't be a 41 win team. But take away two top position players and the top starter away from a 70 win team and that tends to happen.

  12. Everyone expected bad. No one anticipated a 41 win pace vs. an easy part of the schedule.

  16. I just left the game and this roster does make it difficult to justify paying a significant amount of money on tickets, parking, food. Atleast in this circumstance of having to travel to Wrigley I fully support the rebuild and accept it's going to be a process; but damn, days like today make it tough to watch. There's just so much garbage

  19. Even in a rebuild that was embarrassing today. Fulmer looks awful as a starting pitcher but he is still young, I get it. But more errors, more baserunning blunders (getting picked off second when you are down five runs?) even in a rebuild guys should be expected to do the simple fundamental things. This team is challenged even to do stuff that should have been learned a long time ago. Rebuild or not.

  20. I think most expected bad Maybe the first couple of games gave some hope for not so bad. But no one could have anticipated this awful.

  21. The extreme badness of the 2 of the 5 guys in the opening day rotation has hurt the Sox on-field product in a way that you'd expect. EDIT: to be clear, the 2 of the 5 are Giolito and Gonzalez. Everyone I think assumed Fulmer might be as bad as he's been...that was baked into the expectations.

  22. I understand the concept of rebuilding, but this is the kind of game that will test a fan base’s patience. This kind of game makes it embarrassing for fans to even wear White Sox gear.

  23. It's not about dominating, it's about not looking like you belong in Birmingham. No one thought Giolito would look like the worst pitcher in baseball. Fulmer sucking was way more expected.

  24. I really wasn't aware of that...but tell ya what...that's not good on his shoulder. If he shoots left handed (which I assume)...if he's shooting birds...or even targets/skeet with a .12 gauge shotgun...that's tends to pound your shoulder pretty good. I had a saiga12 a few years back...that after I put about 36 shells thru it...left a massive bruise on my shoulder. Thing hurt for over a week lol. Course i'm not sure what he's shooting...but I'd figure either .12 gauge or 308...both will pound you.

  35. Inconsistent strike zone from home plate umpire is not helping Fulmer

  36. At this point in the development of Fulmer and they rebuilding Sox I think you just suck it up with the pitching staff and live with it. The hope is that they learn from experiencing failure and also gain mental toughness

  37. I can only hope the media and fans mock this historically bad team all weekend. Embarrassing mismatch. If they are going to make Sox fans suffer, the front office should suffer as well.

  38. If you were to project out this season based on the first 34 games, and assuming zero improvement or impact from someone like Kopech and Rodon getting back to Chicago, this team is on a pace to give up 915 runs. The 1998 team gave up 931 runs.

  39. Eloy would benefit from AAA which is why he needs to be there in the very near future.

  40. More important for hitters than pitchers IMO since there is generally better off-speed stuff to deal with in AAA.

  41. Frank's command of the zone was so good, that manager Jeff Torborg actually wanted him to break camp with the team right from the beginning, based on what he saw of Thomas in spring training. It was then-GM Larry Himes who put the breaks on that and kept him in the minors until August of that year. But given the way Frank hit the ground running that August, it's fair to say that maybe Torborg was correct, and he could have had Thomas for the entire year of that 1990 campaign. Makes you wonder a little if a full year of Frank would have been enough for that surprise 1990 White Sox team to overtake Oakland that year.

  42. I think the main issue I've had with people's opinions on Madrigal is when scouts talk about him profiling best at 2b, they aren't just saying it's his best position (as in he can't play anywhere else), they are saying he's a Plus-plus future gold glover there. That doesn't mean he is below average in other positions. It means he's really good at 2b.
    1 point
  43. Ok, I understand. He is your favorite. That's fine. We all have our own opinion, and I respect that. I like the player too. I just would prefer someone else, with our #4 pick.

  44. Oh god, it is officially meatball weekend in the City of Chicago.

  45. Why does any of this matter? He has nearly a 200 wRC+ despite playing half his games in a pitchers park. Dude isn’t be challenged right now and that’s what development is all about.

  46. I'm with Baseball America and prefer India, to Madrigal. He provides more flexibility, with the ability to play third, short or second. India is putting up an even better OBP, in a tougher conference and, of course, he provides power potential, which Madrigal does not. Moreover, although I understand that, at #4, you pick the best player available, Madrigal is not clearly the best player. Therefore, it makes sense to think about how he would fit into the rebuild. If there is one player on this young team, who is a lock to be there, when the contending window opens, it's Moncada, and he is not going to move off second base, which happens to be just about the only place Madrigal profiles. He is just 2 years younger than Moncada. That pretty much negates the advantage of Madrigal being capable of being fast tracked to the Majors. He could indeed be ready for the "Big Show," in 2020, but would not have a place to play. It just doesn't make sense for the Sox to pick him. Oh sure, they could take him and then trade him, but that only makes sense if he is clearly the best player available, and that is not the case.

  47. On point here. So in 362 plate appearances with the White Sox Eloy has hit .351 and got on base at a .406 clip. Granted this include winter league but even if you take that out it’s still elite. He hasn’t hit below .345 yet! Ridiculous

  48. Yeah, let's hurry to bring Kopech/Jimenez up and if they struggle, turn around and b**** about how they were rushed and that the Sox are notorious for doing this. The reality is that Kopech is still struggling with his control at AAA and Jimenez still has another level to excel at before he gets called up. I'm hoping we don't see either of them as Sox regulars until the third or fourth week of April 2019.

  50. The Dodgers have more payroll on the DL than the entire payrolls of 4 MLB teams (including the White Sox)... For those counting at home, that makes eight players on the DL for the Dodgers. Rich Hill is now expected to return on Tuesday, but until that happens there’s a significant amount of money piling up for guys who aren’t playing. Like $100 million worth of inactive players. Well, $93,465,000 million to be exact. That’s higher than the total payroll of four MLB clubs, including three (Oakland, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay) that have higher winning percentages than the 15-18 Dodgers. Among those injured Dodgers, Justin Turner (wrist) is out until at least mid-May, Tom Koehler (shoulder) won’t be ready until after the All-Star break, Corey Seager (UCL) isn’t expected back until 2019 and there’s still Julio Urias (shoulder) who is working his way back from surgery last June. Which is to say nothing of Yasiel Puig (hip, foot), Logan Forsythe (shoulder) or Hyun-Jin Ryu (groin). Before Kershaw’s injury, Los Angeles had already paid out $6,032,720 to players on the DL. In terms of wastes of money, that’s more than Mets are paying Matt Harvey ($5.6 million) this season. What a preposterous road trip. Day 1: Pedro Baez falls off mound. Day 4: Corey Seager blows out. Day 6: Hyun-Jin Ryu tears groin muscle off the bone. Day 8: 1st combined no-hitter in franchise history. Day 10: Clayton Kershaw injures arm. https://sports.yahoo.com/dodgers-add-clayton-kershaw-baseballs-expensive-disabled-list-175709473.html
