  1. Ron, we talked about this. If you want him to perform well, you have to bash him.

  2. If I was the GM of this White Sox team we wouldn't be in the bottom in the standings, attendance and TV ratings. I would have been the talk of MLB and believe me we would be having some fun.

  3. How many of those guys had 25% BB rates in AA? I think some of you guys are seriously undervaluing what kind of a rare asset Collin’s batter’s eye is. He will likely see some drop when he reaches the pros, but a 50% decrease because “major league pitching” is pretty absurd IMO. If that happens, then he’s going to get a lot more good pitches to hit. Regardless, are there actually any examples of a player who walked as much as Collins suddenly not walking in the pros?

  4. Apparently he's not as good with the glove as people think.

  5. Looks like Albies didn't get your memo. The kid just continues to produce and is two years younger than Moncada.

  6. I don't think Trump will be impeached because no matter what Mueller finds the GOP won't have the gonads to stand up to him and remove him from office. GOP congresspeople/senators are a bunch of spineless slimeballs with no conscience or soul. They're only in it for the money, and when they lose an election they are given a job as a corporate lobbyist as payback for all of the favors they did while in office. They aren't afraid to lose an election because they have that cushy lobbyist job as a backup. It also makes them very dangerous. They get to push the economic royalist agenda with virtually zero consequences. They win either way. The people of the country lose. The GOP has their patron saint-Ronald Reagan. Dems don't have one, but they should. His name was Franklin D. Roosevelt. I feel like they distance themselves from FDR way too much for his decision on the Japanese internment camps. While a stain on his legacy, and absolutely the wrong decision, he did so many other things so damn well. He got re-elected three times. He was super popular, brought the country out of near financial oblivion and presided as commander in chief during the great majority of the most important war in modern human history. Dems should learn from that.

  9. 6 innings and no walks. I know he got hit hard at points, but I can handle an outing like this versus what we had been seeing.

  14. FWIW Steamer thinks his walk rate would be 14.5% in the majors right now. We’re talking about a guy who probably has the best eye in the minors so I don’t think that is unreasonable. He could have the eye of Narvaez with considerably more power.

  15. A 15% walk rate would put him at 90 walks in 600 PAs. The 8 guys who walked 90+ times last year read as a good chunk of the all-star game in Votto, Judge, Matt Carpenter, Ed Encarnacion, Kris Bryant, Goldschimit, Trout and Rizzo. The lowest OPS out of that whole bunch was .835 from Carpenter. Collins is going to have to hit a ton to get that kind of respect to pitchers to allow him to talk at a 15% rate.

  16. Rankings and tool updates are nice, but the write-ups won't get updated until next year. To get write-ups this bland, and often inaccurate, was pretty disappointing.

  18. You think his BB rate is somehow going to be fall from 25% in AA to 8 to 10% in the pros? He has perhaps the best plate discipline in the entire minors and is the victim of poor umpiring. I’d be absolutely shocked if his BB rate in the majors fell below 15%.

  20. I really like both Madrigal and Larnach. I was hoping he'd be around for pick number 2, but sounds like he's a late 1st rounder at worst.

  21. Fangraphs finally released their 2018 draft rankings. Lots of interesting stuff there. They gave Madrigal a 70 hit tool grade, along with 70 speed, 60 field, 50 arm, 50 (game) power, 45 (raw) power. Those are all future grades, of course, but the game power grade being higher than the raw suggests that they also feel the hit tool is so good that it will carry the power numbers with some XBH production that you might not expect from his raw power. They're also really high on Larnach in comparison to most places.

  22. As it stands right now outside of Votto the 1B & DH markets are thin, very thin; Votto is signed for minimum 5 more years with roughly 150M remaining and a full NTC . The fact that Abreu isn't a rental and has a reasonable salary this year and ARB3 next with a likely QO attached to him makes him valuable. Adding to his value is the unique situation that three teams find themselves in. 1.) Rockies have the worst production out of 1B have the pieces to make a deal happen and are looking at a dodger team too good to both play at this level and stand idle and a Giants team that is playing competently and have put them self into the picture. 2.) The defending Champs are going to feel even more pressure to defend. Gattis, Gurriel and Gonzalez have all taken a step back this year. They too have the pieces to land Abreu. 3.) The Yankees, bird is coming back but there is no way in hell Cashman is going to let the date of their season rest on a potential 1 game playoff against the Angels. They too have the pieces and the cap space to land Abreu. Which brings the Sox to a great posisition where something is going to give and you can play all three teams against one another to get you what you think 1.5 years of Jose Abreus skills and intangibles are worth. It wouldn't surprise me if come July we're talking about a near Texeria like return from the Rockies for Abreu and Jones / Rondon

  23. The age is one of the reasons I don't want to extend him; the other is that DH is not a position in which I see the Sox as lacking internally. But the reason I want to flip him is the opportunity to bring more young talent into the organization. Yes, the minors are top 5, but the organization as a whole is not and still needs good players.

  24. Who said he is worthless, greg?
    1 point
  25. Literally no one wants to trade him because of his age. The main reason is about flipping him for more prospects. I think most, if not all, say we should only deal him for a high price OR extend him for an extra 2 -3 years beyond his current contract/control (OR even trading him and signing him after next year if he becomes a free agent). You have become so laughable on this board its amazing.

  29. It shouldn't there is a reason why only 11% of MLB hitters (FG qualified) are 33+ years old and only 4% are 33+ years old and have wRC+ of 110 or greater.

  30. It was the best segment Jax ever had to carry on her own, but that being said, it was a tremendous character break to shoehorn in this Rousey match at MITB. They literally spent 6 months telling the "bully's never win" story and Jax overcoming it, just for Jax to literally turn around a week later and bully a jobber. So for that reason alone, I thought it was pretty terrible.

  31. Renteria has been a major league coach or manager for 10 seasons. The teams he was with had 1 winning season out of 10. I'm not goofy enough to think this roster should win, and probably bringing someone else in before they are good enough to win will put a black stain on that individual. I just think all the Ricky is the best guy for this team talk even when they are ready to compete isn't really based on anything of substance. I am sure he's a great guy with a lot of energy. I am sure most players really like him. That doesn't make him championship manager material. I think a lot of his reputation is Cubs related.Everyone felt sorry for him when he was let go. They made it seem like the stars were aligned so properly, and that was the only reason he was let go. The Cubs went out of their way to get Maddon. They saw the issues. His bullpen usage was questioned. He obviously loves the bunt. In no way am I blaming him for the White Sox sucking. But I do think they have to make a change by the time they are not sucking or they are going to pay for it.

  35. I view Riley Pint a lot like Cease. Big arm but some serious question marks (different issues obviously). Get him in the system and hope our development guys can get things to click for him. Regardless, option A is all about getting Rodgers. I’m taking a discount on the secondary pieces if I get true blue-chipper for Abreu and that’s what Rodgers is. He may not be quite as good as Jimenez, but we’re talking about a far less valuable asset. As for option B, I’m not sure I understand what your beef with Hoffman is or what the “not even on the team” comment means. He’d be the perfect type of arm to add and we could immediately insert him into our major league rotation. On top of that, we get an instant replacement for Abreu in McMahon and a major league ready CF prospect. While I’d love to add Dahl as a buy-low type, he’s already part of the OF mix for the Rockies and I really think they’d avoid giving him up. Tapia would get at least a year and half opportunity in CF before Robert & Basabe become serious threats. There’s a lot of value in adding three major league ready pieces that we can afford to work through their growing pains with. And quite frankly, I don’t think the Rockies would do either trade. I’m sure Rodgers is off-limits for anything but the most elite, cost-controlled talents and I can’t see them gutting a huge portion of their major league depth in one fair swoop. More realistically I could see them offering something like McMahon & Tapia and that just wouldn’t do it for me.

  40. i logged into cnn.com today and had to laugh. Four straight stories that were negative about Donald. Then I'm at panera and i grabbed the local paper and the lead national editorial is all about Trump ruining morals of America, etc. Can you imagine being Trump? He's hated. I credit our society for being civil to him in public. At least we can let him do his thing in peace afore Bernie defeats him fair and square next election. GO SOX!

  42. Guy goes 4-for-4 again today. Has been as consistent or more consistently excellent than any other player in White Sox history. And he gets no love. Very strange and sad. If we are dumb enough to trade him I hope it's to the Cubs so he stays in Chicago. Any fan who wants him gone deserves him raking for the Cubs.
