  1. I have been saying that for a while. Vision is one of, if not the most important physical tools necessary to be a MLB hitter. On top of that, do you really want to be taking advice from Timmy who has struggled with strikeouts and making contact throughout his career? Moncada has put in a good game tonight so far and I am interested to see if he can keep it up with the glasses. Maybe if he does it will also convince TA to give them another shot and see if they can help him.

  3. I'd be shocked if he is a Sept call up. I wanted him up this year but now it is too late. Calling him up in Sept still wastes a year of control. If they were going to call him up this year it should have been weeks ago, months even.

  4. Yes. I think they realized that it's going to take Giolito, Lopez and Moncada didn't progress this year as they would have liked. Thus they aren't going to compete next year. I think if those 3 were lights out this year, Kopech and Jimenez would have been up already and they would compete next year.

  5. Serious question: if most of these players actually become good, will you even be able to enjoy it?

  6. One thing of thought, I think I read that you can get two weeks of rehab coming back from the 80 game suspension. Two weeks puts us as August 31, meaning he could be activated on September 1st without needing to make a roster move.

  7. Moncada is batting .800 with a 2.833 OPS versus Junis, Kansas City's starting pitcher.

  8. Great rebuild game. Tim with good offense, defense, and baserunning. Moncada with 0 strikeouts and good contact. Delmonico looking good too

  12. Great AB from Moncada. Came back from 0-2 and drew a walk.

  13. Hansen's short starts are planned right now. He didn't walk anyone in 3 innings and got a lot of swings and misses. You should be excited about this.

  14. Man that's bad managing by Renteria. Have to put the contact play on when Engel is on deck.

  15. That isn’t what I am saying. Dude. You are saying that not calling them up is hurting their development. Prove it. Give an example of someone who spent too much time in the minor leagues. Someone who would have been a building block had they just beeen called up in September. I can list guys who were great in September and sucked when the bell rang for spring training. These guys have taken their Septembers off their entire professional careers. Kopech even served a lengthy suspension, yet, somehow, some way they are still considered elite prospects. They still were able to develop. I don’t know how, but I think it’s a sign they will be OK if they go home in a couple of weeks and show up at Soxfest in January. Calling them up now would be a waste. Meaningless games, many against teams similarly situated, makes them basically spring training games. They might get something out of it, but nothing that would leave them far behind next year, especially if they are as good as you think. Sending them home is a small price to pay for the extra control. And as long as they perform well, that extra year will be quite valuable whether the team is good or bad at that point. They would either be huge pieces of a contender or trade bait. Now, they would be playing glorified spring training games.

  16. If you were doing what was best for these 2 guys' development you would have called Eloy up late-July and you'd call Kopech up after his next 2 starts or so. Everyone's just kinda assuming that doing things that aren't best for their development won't be that big of a deal, so we'll take the service time as more important.

  17. Same, except if they do wait for service time purposes, I really don't understand what Hahn means when he says to use Moncada and Giolito as blueprints to how these guys will be treated in terms of promotions. Moncada really ready last year to be called up last year, but Kopech and Eloy are. Maybe it's different because Gio and Moncada both already had major league time accrued before being traded to the Sox?

  18. They absolutely shouldn't be up until late April next year, why waste service time on a 90+ loss team?

  19. Kopech should have absolutely been called up this year. And I think that was the plan but the fo got cold feet because of his early struggles. Then they got caught looking once he turned it on. Not a good look for the fo but may as well wait at this point.

  21. Again, who cares? All I care about is who ends up being the best MLB player for the Chicago White Sox, not some silly minor league home run contest that has no bearing on wins/losses for the Sox. You continue to find reasons to complain just to complain.

  22. I'd be shocked if Eloy isn't at least a Sept call up. Is Kopech on an innings limit this year?

  26. Was Madrigal the best player available? Try trading him for Gorman or Kelenic right now.

  27. And Moncada didn't stop the Sox from drafting the best available player in Nick Madrigal. Zach Collins won't stop the Sox from drafting a catcher if he is BPA.

  28. Yep. Moncada is no longer the #1 2B prospect though. He has been leapfrogged by guys like Albies and Torres. Collins stock as a catcher is down from 2016 as well. The kid was an absolute reach at #10 overall if he can't stick at catcher. High OBP first baseman are a dime a dozen these days, especially ones with terrible splits. The Sox took another one of those in the second round last year.

  29. He’s ready. So is Jimenez. But we’re down to about 54 games, 1/3 of a season of meaningless games, so they’re under control for an extra year when the Sox are supposed to good. Easy choice for me.

  30. One, service time. Two, they don’t want to lose that #3 draft pick. He could be the difference between the #3 pick and #5 pick. I think a case could be made either way on whether he should have been promoted by now.

  31. Absurd that Kopech hasn't been in MLB for the past few weeks.

  32. Substitute Cease for either Lopez or Gio and I think it looks better.

  33. I think the better question is why does it happen?. For example, does Joey Gallo have the same complaint?. Last I looked, Gallo had a worst SO% than Yoan. Is there something with Yoan's stance or movement in the box that is affecting the umpire's view? Is this fake news?

  36. I can't not root for Sale, doesn't matter that he's on the Red Sox now (it helps that I don't dislike the RSox). The guy is one of the 5-6 best pitchers I've ever seen and he's a psycho (which I will always argue is a good quality in a pitcher).

  37. I disagree with this statement wholeheartedly and pivot it more to a conversation about people who played the game for an extended period of time vs. those who didn't. You are taught to take the game out of the umps hands with two strikes. What that means is, as a hitter, you are typically taught to slightly expand your zone with 2 strikes so that you don't give up an at bat. Period. Moncada looks at too many close pitches and quite frankly too many pitches in general (that are in the hitting zone). This is an approach thing and while he absolutely has a good eye, he also is not near aggressive enough and is going to have to look at film and come up with an adjusted strategy. The entire Sox offensive coaching staff is essentially blasting Moncada for not being aggressive and it goes back to this basic concept that is essentially grounded in baseball players heads from a young age. And even as strike out numbers amount, the reason people are striking out a lot more isn't because they don't swing with 2 strikes and let strikes go looking...its cause they swing as hard as they can every damn time (vs. shifting an approach with 2 strikes to be more contact specific...look for the base hit vs. the HR).

  38. There are flaws to the umpire excuse being used for Moncada. A previous post highlighted a tweet about Moncada's "good eye" because he is in the top percentage of hitters who do not swing at pitches outside the zone. Problem is he is also in the top percentage of hitters who do not swing at pitches inside the zone either. His lack of swinging at pitches outside the zone isn't due to his supposed good eye but due to the fact that he just doesn't swing the bat as often as most hitters whether the ball is in or out of the zone. This is also the reason why he has the most called 3rd strikeouts with balls outside of the zone. Most of these pitches are very close and people think umpires have something against Moncada because he get called out on so many of these close pitches. The reality is that Moncada has so many close pitches that miss the zone called as strike 3 because other hitters do not take these pitches with 2 strikes. They know they have to protect the plate and cannot take pitches like that. Moncada takes these pitches and not surprisingly get rung up on them many times. If other hitters were taking these close pitches with 2 strikes they would be getting called out as often as Moncada on bad strike 3 calls.

  39. Soxtalk should band together and do a documentary on the intricacies and history of the Reinsdorf family estate. There's an unbelievable amount of detailed insider knowledge here. We could also generate revenue for the site by offering financial planning services. We'd be foolish to squander this much expertise.
