  1. I only remember him being a future catcher 🤷‍♂️

  3. Ruiz is a legit prospect, not an auditioning AAAA guy. This is exciting, especially with Frare, Hamilton, Fry, and Burr here as well

  5. Just make sure to come and bump it and say you were wrong if he extends.

  6. If you read anything about him, Chicago apparently has long had a special significance for Eloy. But instead of rewarding this young man for a fantastic display since joining this organization, and having confidence that we could retain him in 2025 by simply developing a positive relationship with him and offering a competitive amount of money when the time comes, we decide to play technicalities to trap him here for the extra time. I’ll be sure to bump this post going into 2026 when we’re not even considered for Eloy’s next contract. Or when we wonder why other big names never seem to want to play for us.

  7. The handling of this situation has been so bad. Now Hahn gets talked into insulting his franchise cornerstone by saying he doesn't want to develop a 21-year-old DH, which is of course an unnecessary cheapshot against such an important figure and totally asinine — as if he'd be unable to get better at defense while playing every day in Chicago for a month rather than sitting on his hands. I haven't seen this shared here, but I found it to be an excellent argument about how the Sox bungled this: https://www.soxmachine.com/2018/08/31/the-business-case-against-suppressing-eloy-jimenez/

  8. Do you know why those laws are in place? Because Unions lobbied Congress on behalf of their workers. I understand the amount of money that pro athletes get in general is much greater than anything that most could hope to earn in their lifetime, but they got paid a comparable wage to an awesome job for the average person until they got a union and got their fair share. In the 60s players had to work another job to make a living during the offseason. It is actually no different than anyone else. They fought for their rights as workers and kept it up. The rest of the population got swindled by billionaires' propaganda. Don't like it? Go organize! If the billionaires could get away with repealing those laws they would do it in an instant. The point I was making was that if it wasn't for collective bargaining, our bosses would own us. It was virtual slavery. Those who were rich, stayed rich for generations and those who were poor, stayed poor. The American Dream was only possible because of the people who died and fought for labor rights. Today, on Labor Day, I salute them.

  10. Jimenez stats in his 155 games in the Sox organization: Winston-Salem, 29 games Birmingham, 71 games Charlotte, 55 games PA-651 AB-594 R-95 H-202 2B-44 3B-4 HR-33 RBI-108 BB-49 K-106 AVG-.340 OBP-.390 SLG-.594 Fun fact--he's only been hit by a pitch 3 times in those 155 games.

  11. I think the Cubs will need to pay him significanly more than other teams for him to say. It's just my opinion but his being outspoken about how the CBA must change and the players will fight in this next negotiations, makes it sound like he is holding a grudge and he takes it personally.

  12. Bryant's grievance case vs the Cubs is still pending.

  13. I do think Bryant is holding a grudge. We'll see when he comes up for free agency.

  14. I do not think this will have much impact on a future contract. By 2025, I think this issue will be a distant memory. His agent will eventually steer him to the team that makes the most sense for the big payday ( for them as well). Now if Eloy suffers a major injury at Charlotte next April, the shit will hit the fan.

  16. I've seen quite a few comments lately about a negative future for Matty but a little hot streak lately puts his OPS @ .799 which is very good on the Sox if not the best.

  19. Machado and Harper are special, in the same way that A-Rod and Manny Ramirez were in 2000. That is all. If fans would accept that a player's FA contract and being paid huge money in their decline years is repayment for their cheap years, and not get on the player's ass and be ok with the player getting his, I'd be fine with signing top-tier FA contracts. The idiocy is ridiculous. That attitude is why private employees don't have guaranteed pensions. The billionaire class has brainwashed people into doing what is in their best interest, instead of the worker's best interest. /End rant. This is how the system works. If you don't want it that way, then be prepared for Arbitration after year 1 of team control. I never begrudge a player for getting his. I don't hate Scott Boras. I love him. He gets the job done for the great majority of his clients. If I were a top MLB prospect or player, he'd be my agent.

  20. Yes. While it is a good business decision to do this, it completely ignores the human element. Eloy deserves a promotion, no question. Given my incredibly pro-worker stance in real life, under no way can I condone this. This is the real life equivalent of your boss giving you more responsibility at work and no change in job title or pay. How would you like it if your boss treated you this way? This is the type of thinking that leads companies to cut corners and squeeze every last dollar out of labor. I wish the remainder of the US labor force had as strong of a union as the MLB players do. It is something to be applauded, not vilified. America's middle and lower classes should strive to have a union as strong as the MLBPA negotiating on their behalf. If the Sox get screwed in any way if they file the grievance, while I'll hate it as a fan, I'll love it in every other way. The Sox deserve anything they have coming to them on this one. Nobody should be siding with ownership on this one unless they're willing to work at their current job for 60 hrs a week for $5/hr with no overtime or vacation.

  21. It’s the right call at this point. I’m not sure why people feel bad for Eloy when he will still make millions upon millions over the course of his career. A six week delay to his major league debut doesn’t change that.
    1 point
  22. haha I knew what you meant. Like a brief call up to evaluate what they have in him before needing to trim fat in the off-season.

  23. It will be awkward in terms of the excuses the Sox will try to come up with to justify sending Eloy back to Charlotte at the end of ST. They will most likely say they want to see Eloy work on his defense in Charlotte and then miraculously he will have drastically improved by the third or fourth week of April and call him up.

  24. Cuz it's a shitty way to treat your employees? I'm sure he'll brush it off because he's a professional, but it still sucks.

  26. Hey I admitted I wasn't sure. And its still a bad idea grasshopper, because for each action there is an equal and opposite reaction. 1) While you showcase Eloy he may not do well in a short sample size. 2) You give more ammo to his agents . 3) If Eloy isn't upset now and understands everything surely the move you proposed further risks upsetting him. I'd rather he be focused on baseball when he is called up. 4) So you want to showcase Eloy but you are also showcasing how unfairly the front office treats our players to the superstars free agents looking for a team . Great plan. It's you who don't get it man .

  27. OMG, Hawk said the Sox are going to kick the Cubs ass to a bunch of White Sox fans. What an asshole. The correct thing would be maybe the people complaining he said this could have said nothing.

  28. I sincerely hope that Rick Hahn will announce that Eloy will be brought up tomorrow . If Eloy proves to be an All Star and likes the Sox, they will have every opportunity to sign him long term. If not then they can trade him like the Sox traded away Sale and Quintana at the pinnacle of their careers. The idea that the Sox should take advantage of the rules to hold Eloy and make force him wait another year for FA is a joke. Take the high road instead. Treat the guy like a champ and he will be here as long as the Sox want him and can afford his Contract. If the Sox want another championship in the foreseeable future they are going to have to sign a few All-Star level players to big money deals. That is just the reality of baseball. Look at the FA that teams like the Cubs, Yankees and Boston have signed over the last few years. If the idea is to try to win with a team that doesn't carry several big player contracts, forget about it. That's probably not going to happen anymore.

  30. You slander yourself when you propose ideas like this dude. Put the bath salts down and get some help.

  31. Eloy and his agents aren't happy about possibly not being called up until mid-April next year and somehow you think they will be OK with the Sox jockeying him back and forth between Chicago and Charlotte? Seriously, you really think this is a good idea?

  32. Geez some of you guys would rather talk about your dislike for Hawk on Hawk appreciation Day . Don't any of you have a mute button for yourselves. I'm great with criticism of Hawk any other time . A little silence on the subject wont kill you for a few hours. Maybe the actual good game the Sox are playing might interest you.

  33. I'm so fucking ready for Hawk to be gone. And this is from a 35 year old guy who loved him for over 20 years. The world has passed Hawk by and he is a shell of himself as a broadcaster.

  34. Then we get the period of him hitting .200 out of the way this fall and he comes out next spring and eats 3 pitchers for lunch.

  35. I don't think it's in their long term interests to piss him off, on and off the field. I've said numerous times that an event (any event) happening 7 years from the present should be heavily discounted in any current decision making process. There's too much that can happen -- injury, trades, CBA changes, etc, to plan for. The Sox, imo, are using rigid, outdated thinking.

  36. Have you seen his projections? Steamer thinks he's a 130 wRC+ hitter. He doesn't need more AAA reps, he's ready.

  37. With barely 200+ plate appearances in Charlotte I can understand the reluctance in calling him up.

  38. I mentioned this the other day, but it's true...years ago, if you saw a 21-yr-old prospect killing it at AAA, you'd be happy, but you'd say, "That guy is going to be awesome next year when he gets called up". You wouldn't necessarily be demanding his call up for your entertainment for a month. So part of the problem is just social media and being exposed to his daily performance. And yes, the White Sox themselves add to that hype, but they're not doing anything that bad here.

  39. Just a bad look for a franchise that doesn't need one.

  40. I feel this way but also I don't see why his agents are to blame, they are acting in his best interests right now. I get where both sides are coming from, but I think it's clearly an exploitative strategy on sox part, which isn't to say it isn't by the rules, so it's hard for me to be pumped about them pursuing it.

  41. this is bullshit. Leave it to the Sox to piss off the cornerstone of their rebuild. Unreal. Penny smart and pound foolish.

  42. Black = African American. Eloy is from the Dominican Republic. He isn't "black."
    1 point
  43. I would change that to both parties are doing what they CAN do not what they should do. I think everyone knows that the Sox should call him up based on player development and what he deserves. They can keep him down by the rules and they will.

  44. My expectation for this off season is that they at the very least sign Grandal, going from #92/105 in Castillo & Narvaez to #3 in pitch framing would be a huge impact on our young staff. Outside of that, yes I want them to go hard after Machado but if he doesn't want to come here so be it. Spend as little of money as possible getting someone like Pomeranz or even reupping with Shields to hold the 5th spot in the rotation till Cease or Dunning is ready early-mid season.
