  1. Where’s the proof that the White Sox are doing anything Interesting or remarkable? The rebuild is riding on Moncada, Kopech, Anderson, Jimenez, Cease, Robert and Madrigal being studs. How did they use analytics or non-traditional avenues to scout any of those guys? The only positional player they’ve really been right on is Abreu in the last half-decade. KW and Paddy are the ones who pursued him, how did analytics play a role? Heck, they might have the most boring name for a proprietary database system in the history of the sport. At any rate, for months and months, we’ve been hearing the strength of the system was high end collegiate pitching...and that many of these guys would end up in the bullpen. But the results down the stretch were not exactly confidence boosting. What is it that the White Sox actually do well, right now? We have a pretty terrible defensive team...other than Anderson, Moncada (when focused), and Engel, who can’t hit. We’ve got fielders who can’t hit and a bunch of hitters who can’t field, to many to name. Our one seeming advantage is overall team speed and aggressiveness...but we also stopped stealing bases, and that philosophy runs counter to nearly every team in baseball (anyway) and also causes lots of injuries/wears down players to boot. We have a bottom 5-10 manager and a bottom 5-10 front office. The ONLY thing saving the White Sox is being in the worst division in baseball, with 3 rebuilding small market teams, and the Indians being small market, too. If we were in either the AL West or AL East or all the teams played balanced schedules with top five advancing, this franchise would be in pretty serious trouble.

  2. I am perfectly ok with Benetti and Stone together. I actually love them together. Stone is great at his job and I don't mind the smart ass comments, he really knows his baseball.

  3. Confirmed or not, all judges should remain impartial - that's the point. If Justice Roberts came out railing against Democrats you would be okay with that under the guise that it's his opinion outside of his official capacity? I sure wouldn't be.

  8. I can't throw them where they already are. They're ALREADY under the bus. How do you not see that? This is the result of 40 years of the Democratic party moving to the right. Insanity is trying the same thing and expecting a different result. All we get out of tolerating moderate Republicans in the Democratic party is more poverty, systemic injustice, and corporate welfare. Of course, all of that is easy for you to ignore. I'm not the only white male in this conversation, and judging by "[your] dad's book", I'd wager you come from a wealthier background than I. You don't see the poverty and systemic injustice in the ritzy suburbs, and corporate welfare is imperceptible unless you look for it. I live near Gary. I have friends from Gary. I don't have the privilege to be able to ignore the poverty and systemic injustice like you do. So no, I'm not happy about the moderate Republicans that hide behind the word "Democrat" while doing everything in their power to enrich their corporate overlords while fucking their constituents over, and I'm not supportive of any plan that doesn't find the quickest and most effective way to replace all Republicans, including the ones masquerading as Democrats, with representatives that will stand for the people.

  9. So the guy who is telling others to give up their beliefs to preserve power for his group isn't the one who privileged, but the one who is being told to shut up and quit asking for more is. This is why the modern GOP is destroying the Democrats. They are too busy eating their own.

  11. You have no idea what I endure. Furthermore, the system you're okay with keeping in place hurts those people worse than a temporary worsening followed by an elongated period of betterment would. The privilege of believing that staying the course is a viable option is disgusting.

  14. What Democratic Senator was out of line questioning Kavanaugh? The only guy I saw who lost his mind besides Kavanaugh himself, was Graham. Both republicans. It must be very frustrating when you are given 5 minutes during a hearing to ask questions and the one being asked questions refuses to answer them. He's hiding something and you know it. But the R after his name makes it OK in your world. R after the name makes everything OK. Kavanaugh and Trump are victims. It's laughable people actually believe this. History will look back on this and a lot of people won't admit how hoodwinked they were.

  15. So far as I can tell from this listing of all team personnel, there really are only 2 analytically focused people with a third who is somewhat focused on it. Matt Koenig Emily Blady Devin Pickett If this really is all that we have (and it does appear that way), that is really extremely disappointing to me. I understand having a balance between analytics and traditional means, but this isn't even anywhere near balance. Having a strong enough analytics staff to not only keep up with the game, but find advantages that others don't is how teams that don't have the resources of the Yankees and Red Sox are supposed to compete, yet we are even passed up by the Red Sox and Dombrowski who seems to be about as traditional in scouting and strategy as is acceptable in today's game.

  18. No and she hasn't recused herself from any of the cases of involving the Trump admin either. Then there is also the major difference of noone called her evil. Said they believed a man accusing her of rape. Labeled her a gang rapist. Done any sort of the smearing that democrats have done to Kavanaugh many of it happening even before the allegations took place. I think something has sort of happened to democrats where they seem incapable of practicing the same tolerance they preach towards others. With Republicans they seem to be able to disagree with you without calling you names and are open to listening. They don't need to retreat to safe spaces and refuse to be exposed to things they disagree with. One thing I always admired about Ginsburg even though I disagreed with her on almost everything is she seemed to form a lasting friendship with Scalia. I really respected that about her before her comments about Trump there is a life outside of politics. Noone should cut themselves off from one side because they disagree with each other politically.

  19. I'm actually pretty apolitical. I do believe all justices should be impartial, as the rule of law is what holds us together. So if Judge Kavanaugh is found to be impartial, then maybe he shouldn't sit on the highest court in the land. But I keep hearing from conservative colleagues that Justice Ginsberg wasn't very impartial about Donald Trump. Seehttps://www.cnn.com/2016/07/12/politics/justice-ruth-bader-ginsburg-donald-trump-faker/index.htm Is this any different?

  20. I think his partisan rant during his turn after Dr. Ford's testimony should eliminate him from contention. You can be partisan without being unhinged. This guy seems to be an entitled brat.

  21. Agreed. The problem is that the SCOTUS is supposed to be impartial, and to judge the spirit of the constitution as it applies to modern day problems and legal issues. That isn't happening. Now, the SCOTUS has become the epitome of politicians in robes. If this is going to be the case, they should be up for election every 2, 4, or 6 years just like every other politician. However, the bolded has been the case throughout US history. SCOTUS was not intended to be political, but it is, and always has been. There is a massive flaw with the US Constitution about how elected officials are chosen. In reality, the Electoral College was invented to prevent a demagogue from taking office, as well as to protect the rights of the economic elite. In the modern-day US, it only helps the latter. The US Constitution has proven to be far from infallible, and I think it is a good starting point, but we need to amend it and even come up with a new document that reflects modern-day values and society. The whole democratic process has been hijacked by the SCOTUS and Billionaire interest groups, and until we can get enough of the population to buy into that and take over the legislature in order to create a modern constitution based on the original one, there is almost no hope of preventing an oligarch takeover of the United States. There needs to be a new constitution and a new bill of rights that are added onto the old one. There also needs to be written into the new constitution that there should be a constitutional convention to protect the people from new threats to democracy that may or may not arise from advances in technology every 50-100 years.

  26. Everyone (who listened) knew the FBI investigation would provide nothing.. yet they wanted it so that they could act all angry and get in an uproar when the report indicates nothing was found.. Everyone knew nothing would come of it and now you're in an uproar BECAUSE nothing came of it (knowing it wouldn't). It's fun to watch lol

  27. What evidence is there with Ramirez and Kavanaugh?

  28. You're right. Flake is a coward. He should have voted yes and avoided the FBI investigation since WE ALL knew nothing would come of it.

  29. You're kidding right?? The entire time the democratics hounded Kavanaugh to have an FBI investigation KNOWING it does absolutely nothing and will provide nothing new... Of course it was a stall tactic. And it worked (slightly). Just didn't stall it long enough, for now
    1 point
  30. I don't get why so many people are upset with the process. Clearly the FBI thing was just a stall tactic to try and hold Kavanaugh out as long as they can and hope it pushed past the Nov. voting (I don't blame them). But people.... There is exactly zero evidence. That's one thing great about america is you're innocent until proven guilty. I mean geez, even her childhood best friend could vouch that she knew of a party like that or ever met Kavanaugh. The whole thing was fishy. IDK how you can't at least acknowledge that.

  31. Yep red wave. Lol If Republicans werent so afraid they wouldnt be doing this. They are the party of dinosaurs. Extinction will happen, its just a matter of when. So keep clinging to power by any means necessary. Disrespect the US and everything it stands for. Your time will come.

  35. To what level of effectiveness? They might as well go with the Rays’ and A’s bullpen approach...at least that would be original, especially since relief pitching is supposed to be the strength of their drafting philosophy. Experiment. Do something, anything different. Besides overbunting in a “runs are not at a premium” stadium.

  36. They won 95 games and its baseball. Yes, they lost two must-win games at home...but shit happens in baseball. Best teams don't always win. Fans are going to want to overreact but I wish we were in the situation the Cubs were in. They need better front-end pitching and they have some bad contracts, but they also have a heck of a lot of quality players / pieces and pretty deep pockets.

  41. So it's Trout of bust in 2021 because that FA class isn't exactly brimming with superstars. It's this winter or next looking at it realistic. If you do nothing this year you better make damn sure you get what you want in 2020 and that just make the odds even worse. I have been saying that forever. Like Hahn said you have no control over when these guys become available . You wait too long and you miss the boat. The Sox have 2 years to get rid of a high K, low OBP bad defense ,bad starting and relief pitching team and everyone wonders why there's so many pessimistic posts. When either Tim Anderson or Palka is your team MVP you have a shit ton of work to do. Then you see posts like we need better defensive pitchers. Yea we do but lets put that like 20th on the list of what we need like way behind pitchers who can actually pitch. Some times I wonder how smart our fans really are.

  42. So I think I speak for everyone when I said today fucking blows.. HOWEVER it's time to move on and hope for a speady recovery. This post is not for people bashing the front office discussion to bring him up, bashing Kopech for not saying anything or bashing each other. I read through 5 pages of the Kopech injury thread and got pissed because a few of you took over the thread with your incessant babbling and b****ing and moaning. This thread is specifically to discuss his service time. So with this injury he will miss all of 2019. We lost a year for bringing him up this year. Did we lose another with his injury or can we gain it back by sending him to the minors in 2020? How long? Someone fill us in because the babbling panzies ruined that last thread. Thanks!
