LOL how is 9-21 realistic? That's 52 win pace against a super soft schedule. Unless you think this team is potentially the worst of all time that's not realistic.

We THINK our international program is bad, but theirs is quite literally the worst in baseball.

General consensus. He was mocked in the top 10 of those drafts that come out immediately after the current draft for the following year.

He was 94-96mph at one point early on in college. Hopefully he can find that velocity again.

I don't post here much any more. But I decided I just wanted to put this out there. I was disappointed the Sox didn't get Machado, even though I think the guy has some attitude flaws. But what burns me as a Sox fan was the team's horrific blunder of trading Fernando Tatis Jr in the deal for James Shields. It was all brought home when the Padres, not the Sox, ended up with Machado too. If you think of it this way - if the Sox still had Tatis Jr, they would have had a lot less need to go after Machado. Here are Tatis's numbers in AA at age 19 88 394 353 77 101 22 4 16 43 16 5 33 109 .286 .355 .507 .862 179 Here are Machado's numbers at age 19 in AA 109 459 402 60 107 26 5 11 59 13 4 48 70 .266 .352 .438 .789 176 If you didn't know who was who, you'd have to prefer Tatis's numbers to Machado's. That one ill advised trade is one of the reasons the Sox's rebuilding plan may never work. The Sox are AT LEAST one major controlled talent from being contenders any time soon. And it may turn out that Tatis Jr. is better than any of the young talent the Sox actually have, with the possible exception of Eloy Jimenez. What the heck were the Sox thinking? I can't think of any other prospects the Sox have traded who have turned into studs. It's possible Tatis won't turn into a stud either. But right now, I sure wish he were still with the Sox.

That's also a great argument for why having several million in international money uncommitted at this point is a terrible idea and a pathetic move for the FO. Because if you have $5 million to spend and you've had 2 years to plan for it, you should have 5-10 players queued up to spend that money on. You've had all the time in the world. You don't have to land the top guy, you can spread the money around, but the absolute worst possible thing you could ever do, by far the stupidest thing you could do, is have the money sitting there uncommitted, maybe possibly waiting for a guy who will probably sign with the Orioles first, acting like it isn't a big deal if you don't spend the money. (BTW it's equally dumb for the Orioles to have their funds sitting there uncommitted this year).

Whatever helps you sleep at night. The Tatis trade will forever go down as one of Hahn's worst. Shields was a complete bum at the time. It is the epitome of the White Sox flawed approach post 2005.

You're talking about 90 losses here but in your earlier post you said it was realistic to go 9-21 against a bunch of teams just as bad or worse than we are. If 9-21 against them is realistic then against the rest of the schedule you'd expect even worse than that. Which means you think it's realistic to expect this team to be worse than the 2003 Tigers.

Things certainly could go well. A lot of stuff would have to go right, but it's certainly possible. I like the optimism. I'm excited for the season, and especially so about the offense. The starting pitching may very well let us down (a lot), but an improved bullpen could dampen the overall suckiness.

Kevan Smith did make the Active roster for Angels.

The sky is going to be blue and the weather warm tomorrow in KC. The rain will hold off until later. The game will be played. The game will be the start of a wonderful season as this team is Playoff bound.

I'd be cool with a Saturday double header. I can actually watch those games.

Tatis Jr. Is one of the most over rated prospects. His K to walk is not good. Right now, he is not going to be a good major league hitter.

Yeah, it sucks but I think people forget how successful they were for a 4 /5 year period.

They start 0-8, fire Ricky, hire Ozzie, go 7-0, then another 0-8, fire Ozzie, bring back Ricky, finish at 12-18.

FWIW---I posted a while back an interview with Dave Dombrowski on this same subject. . Boston also does not get hung up on service time. Remember they called up Moncada and Benintendi for a pennant race and followed the next year w Devers. But I though DD had some interesting observations. He said most organizations have their best coaches in the Majors so it can actually help the bridge from minors to majors for young players on the cusp. He also said there is a major difference in the lighting of AA/AAA stadiums and the majors. Seeing the ball better is a major advantage for young players.

As other said, general consensus. And things change, but talent can always come back. Alec Hansen being the prime example. Possible #1 to bullpen to 2nd rounder to minor league leader in strikeouts to a disaster of a 2nd season.

I hope Engel is truly viewed as a 4th or 5th outfielder at this point. I know Leury can be an adventure in CF but he has shown he can hit a bit. All the defense in the world doesn’t make up for a .600 OPS.

This means we will see less Adam Engel in 2019. Praise the lord!

I do not think Robert has shown the plus hit tool he would need to end up as a top five overall prospect. He seems to have a 50/55 grade hit tool at best, which will hold him back some.

They've got so much invested in proving they've made some good calls in Latin America...I hope he gets his opportunity, and it's legitimate, like Delmonico and Palka have enjoyed. Not 100-150 at-bats, but at least 350-400. Of course the problem here is we're talking either 2020 or 2021, and fans are going to expect those teams to compete. That's a lot of pressure with no Machado/Harper to shoulder some of the load. It's really going to be incumbent on guys like Anderson, Moncada and Jimenez to be the leaders, with Madrigal/Roberts/Collins all following close behind.

Trading Tatis is forgivable. Missing on Manny and wanting to acquire Shields are inexcusable.
