The bigger takeaway from tampa, as ever, is getting that direct comparison in an organization that commits to player development and squeezing value out of every asset, and the white sox.3 points

Yea, I’ll take Robert over Rodgers. Better defender, similar power/hit tool, and better speed.2 points

If Cordell pops that up it is a double play. If he misses it Sanchez is out at home, or in a run down. 1 out, 1st and 3rd, your chances of scoring are much higher letting the batter swing away (Cordell had been killing the ball all game too if you want to make a situational argument). Just because a call works or is dramatic and fun does not mean it was a good call. That said, it was absolutely dramatic and fun, so we may as well go lock up the W now.2 points

I'd way rather just sink or swim with Lambert or Flores. These guys are both 24 years old, so not super young. Lets see what we got.2 points

Oh man, are we really about to move to Josh Phegley, who averages 40 games played per year over the past 6 years, as the next thing to incessantly complain about? With the way this board acts, you'd have no idea that Anderson and Moncada are OPSing .860+, Giolito is looking like an ace, Eloy is back in the coming days, Robert is doing well in AA, etc.2 points

Rooting for Walker, but still, strange choices to me. Alek Thomas is doing really well in A ball, also with great BB:K numbers. Signed for 900k less. Instead of pilkington could have gone after one of the many high school arms in round 3 with 1.5 million. Just not a fan of the draft strategy recently. Milwaukees was beautiful.2 points

https://www.danblewett.com/run-expectancy-bunting-bad/ Bunting never increases the odds of scoring, only lessens them. It can only be rationalize with a truly awful hitter at the plate like a pitcher. Have you noticed we almost never see other teams sac bunting when playing them. The rest of baseball is now aware of this and have stopped. Yet we have a manager who will bunt every time we get runners on in a late inning close game.1 point

I agree that tanking should be behind us. There are available people right now who would help us be competitive while giving up nothing.1 point

The list of cromulent, cheap MLB quality players that the Sox have traded away in the last 5-7 years continues to grow and grow and grow. Problem is: is it a scouting issue or a coaching issue or both? I tend to think it's a coaching issue. I do believe the White Sox have one of the worst coaching philosophies and teaching ability in MLB. Their players rarely if ever show unexpected improvement, especially defensively. On the pitching side whatever they are doing to prevent injuries and develop secondary pitches and consistent deliveries seems to be at best well below league average and at worst -- horrendous. The scouting seems to be middle of the road but the coaching is just putrid.1 point

I'd take the under on Narvaez being in the league in 3 years. He isn't very good. He can hit a little bit, but not nearly enough if he isn't catching. I know he's been pretty good this year, but I don't see it lasting. And Colome has been quite good. The Sox have done OK with catchers. They turned Tyler Flowers into a decent big league catcher, and a very well respected game caller and defensive catcher. He got poor grades as a defensive catcher in the minors. Narvaez, while a terrible defensive catcher, the Sox plucked him out the minor league phase of the rule 5 draft and turned him into one of the better closers in the game. Thats not bad either. It took Phegley over 4 years to become a playable option in Oakland. He is not a loss.1 point

When I was unhappy with them, it was not "oh no we may not be able to trade for Andrew Cashner to replace Manny Banuelos"1 point

I hope the White Sox FO is terrified to bring up Madrigal he's a disaster right now.1 point

Say it is only for a month and a half so far, but still, I believe 100% that if we had Avi now instead of paying the same money to Alonso, the Sox would be over .500 right now. Now you can say that it doesn't matter because it's early in the season or this is still part of the rebuild years, so wins don't matter. But you know what, call me crazy, but I like it when the White Sox win games. I want the White Sox to win more games than they lose. I know, many people on here keep saying that rignt now wins don't matter. I know, I know. It's crazy that I want the Sox to win more games than they lose. Even if, so far, only a month and a half, having Avi in RF with his .877 OPS (Only McCann has a better one on the Sox right now) and having his bat (instead of watching Yonder ground out time after time into the shift) would give the Sox two more wins this year, over .500. I know it's only two more or so wins, but that's two time I'm not pissed off and two more times instead of anger, I am happy. Call me crazy, but that appeals to me.1 point

Was. One of the things about copy/pasting the career numbers into your expectations for a player in their age 34 year after a steep second half decline is a) those players get injured and b) they tend to start declining.1 point
-
No, none of those guys are, but those guys probably cost the Sox 2 million combine. Don't even mention Jay because outside of injury, Jay is a better baseball player than Avi all around. What about 2014, 2015, or 2016 for Avi? Lol come on man. In 5 full years he had an OPS above 700 three times, two of them were 718 and 719, combine that with terrible defense, we have a below average player.1 point
-
But Delmonico, Tilson, Engel and Cordell are? I totally get why people were sick of Avi, but if you want to discount his luck in 2017, then 2018 should also be thrown out due to the injury.1 point

His 2017 season was pretty good although his k to walk struggled then and struggles now. With Eloy, Tilson, and Robert, there isn't much room for him in the way future although it would have been nice to have him this season. But ya never know if he puts up 2017 numbers every year, then he may have been worth keeping for the long hall. It is what it is.1 point

Will the last healthy White Sox player please turn out the lights when you leave the ballpark. Thank You. White Sox management1 point

His character is redeemed, then he's running back to Cersei. He is redeemed, and then he's running back to Cersei. All of the times that they push Jaime back to Cersei on the show seemed to be because the plot dictate that happen rather than the natural progression of his character arc. Characters die on this show, but that doesn't mean that the characters shouldn't act consistent with their characterizations over the prior 8 seasons...1 point

During the 5-12 game thread I was admiring the strength of Vlad Jr. Given the lack of success by this regime to draft and successfully cultivate position players, I made a comment Kenny-Hahn could look to Vlad Jr as an example of #1 draft pick. Lord, why did I say that ? I was taken to task by several posters as it was perceived as a dig against Eloy and Yoan. It was nothing of the kind. One responder was rather crude when I mentioned I didn't appreciate being cursed. But these are folks with no life and only feel self-worth hiding behind a keyboard which speaks far more about their character. I shake my head and move on. Eloy and Yoan were drafted by other organizations. Kenny-Hahn traded for other organization's talent. My point was simply how great it would be if the Sox actually got better at drafting talent of that caliber. I could have just as easily mentioned Eloy and Yoan along with Vlad Jr. They all have the potential to be great players. And yes, I definitely believe Vlad Jr will be a superior player to Yomer Sanchez despite the pushback. I must have insulted some family member. Unreal.1 point

...which is fine, but after 39 years of trying to “do it THEIR WAY” and with the deplorable results they’ve had, you’d think prudence would take over at some point and they’d try something different. But no, that never happens.1 point
