  1. It's because you act like such a dick when you say it. That's why it's funny to shove it back in your face.

  2. I am usually a big proponent of Cooper and not one of his haters, but I heard Gio say on MLB network that he went to his high school pitchingg coach during the offseason and that had a huge effect on him

  3. Funny considering you said he was dead to rice for changing it.

  4. Who the fucks cares? Right now, both guys are on pace to be 4+ win players this year. What the hell have all our polished college picks done to help the cause exactly?

  5. The best players in this org currently are Tim anderson, yoan Moncada And Luis Robert and people are still bringing up Courtney Hawkins

  6. Yeah, I was wrong. He had changed it 3 times before and things arent good if you keep doing that. I am not sure why it's funny that sometimes peoples opinions are wrong. Wont be the last time I'm wrong in my life that for sure.

  7. The Rock Island Schedule is Fixed! Attention Southlanders: You can now catch the Rock Island back to South Side and South/SW suburbs at 10:37 on weeknights; for longer games or extra innings, next/last train is at 11:52. Past years, trains were at 9:52 and 11:22. Choices were to watch 6 innings or watch a 3 hour/3-and-half hour game followed by a long, senseless wait on 35th Street platform. Number of weeknight games I attended before 2019: zero. However, the insane Reinsdorfian cash grab fantasy of 20,000 parked cars at $20 per vehicle has been defeated and common sense has won out. This must have been a very difficult thing for JR to give up (it was like waiting for Bill Wirtz to start televising Hawks home games or JR to fire Kenny). This past Monday and Thursday, the inbound train --- three cars -- was loaded with Sox fans, most in their teens and 20s, who boarded all along the line. It was a wonderful thing to behold. The train pulls into 35th St. about 30 minutes before first pitch (perfect). I only missed the last three outs Thursday to catch the 10:37. Good game, great time. Looking forward to next home stand. GOSOX!

  8. Three athletic superfreaks. I agree with you bmags, if the player development sucks, it might not be a bad idea to gamble on guys who have so much talent that they might be able to overcome it on their own. That’s not to say we should pass on Vaughn, I just think this idea we shouldn’t draft a young, athletic HS kid because Courtney Hawkins was a bust is ridiculous.

  9. Give me Abrams and another prep talent in round 2 with the savings. Unless Adley falls, then I would sprint to the podium to select him.

  10. I saw a tweet today from the WS about how today is the first time Cease and Eloy have been teammates since the trade. It sent me down a google hole, and I realized that it had been about 2 years since the big 3 white flag trades. Most of the major pieces have either arrived or are one the cusp of hitting the majors (Sorry Basabe fans). As such, it seems like a great time to revisit them and guess which of the 3 trades ends up getting us the most, and which ends up the best for us. I compiled the stats of all the players below to make it a bit easier. IMO, the Sale trade will produce the most for us (I love Eloy, but I really think he is a DH which limits his impact). However, Sale put up a couple amazing seasons for Boston, so I think the Eaton trade may end up being the most lopsided for us. What do ya'll think? (ALSO: Yes, the Shields trade sucked, not the topic here though. Don't be the asshole who derails this with a Hahn rant, we already have threads for that.)

  11. ⚾ Lucas Giolito gave up 1 run on 3 hits , 2 walks and 4 K's in 5 innings to lower his ERA to 3.35 for his 3rd straight win. Leury Garcia led off the game with a HR. Yonder Alonso was 2-2 with 2 RBI. Charlie Tilson had a hit and has hit safely in 10 of 12 games since being recalled. With the rain starting to come down harder Giolito struck out the side in the 5th on 11 pitches and that made the game official. The game was called and Giolito gets credit for a complete game. It snapped a string of 382 without a complete game, the longest such streak in franchise history. Sox record is now 21-23 with Reynaldo Lopez going tomorrow to finish the series with the Jays. ⚾

  12. I wasn't the first, but I voted there. The question was, if I read it correctly, which provides the most value, not the best players. That trade could net the Sox 3 starting pitchers in the majors, for an injury prone, singles hitting RF. I hadn't even looked at the WAR chart, but upon seeing it, Reylo and Gio have provided more WAR than Eaton already. Gio looks like a new man that could feature prominently in the rotation (way to go Parkman! Your faith pulled him through!). Reynaldo has been a bit touch and go, but his last 6 starts after a horrible start have yielded a 3.19 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and 10.1 K/9. Both of these guys could be major parts of the next good Sox team. Could Eloy and Cease be better? Yes, and I hope they are. Are Moncada and Kopech more important pieces? Yeah they are. but if Gio and Lopez are 3&4 in the rotation after Kopech and Cease, and maybe Dunning as the 5, well I think the Sox will have received more value on that trade. They didn't trade a Cy Young caliber possible HOFer for Gio, Lopez and Dunning. They did for Moncada and Kopech. They didn't trade a 200 inning a year, former All Star workhorse. They traded a completely replaceable OFer. Since the trade, Eaton has 671 PA. I'd take the possibility of 1 MLB SP for that. 2 is a homerun. The prospect of 3? That, in my opinion, is the most value they got back. Cmon, that trade, could realistically fill out 3/5 of an MLB rotation. That is pretty amazing. For Adam Eaton. What they got, in light of what they traded, that is the most value.

  13. Because this organization has no idea how to properly develop players. They went from insanely rushing guys to moving glacially with them in one season.

  18. I think the Sale trade provides the most value, but we also gave up our best chip in the process. To me, the best trade right now is the Quintana trade but it’s entirely possible that Eaton deal looks like a complete steal in a couple years if Giolito keeps this up. Not to go negative here and derail the thread, but the returns of these trades make it that much more frustrating that we haven’t been able to supplement all these pieces via the draft. This rebuild would be looking pretty good if we were even semi competent with our drafting.

  21. Tomorrow's win gets us to 1 game under .500. A nice win streak could get us in the hunt. Some tough competition but you never know. Just keep winning series particularly within the division.

  22. The Sox drafted Rodon. A rookie contract isn’t anywhere close to a free agent contract monetarily. And now please name “whoever.”
    1 point
  23. He has the same agent as Carlos Rodon. What does that have to do with an unemployed pitcher. Read what I said..."Keuchel or whoever." Try not to be negative just for the sake of it.

  24. No they will either wait for the rain to stop and resume it or they can call the game over and official because of the rain since the visiting team got 5 innings . That's when it becomes an official game so we just squeeked in.

  25. The development of giolito change up and the dramatic change in his delivery probably saved his career. Those are two huge changes as well. Kudos to cooper and the rest of the pitching coaches.

  31. Yea I'm with you on this. I don't dislike any of the three options at this point. Though I think I would be much more excited for an Abrams pick if some of the upper level prospects were actually performing. Vaughn should be impactful in short order and it kinda feels like that is needed at the moment. I hate having that sentiment despite Vaughn not being a reach at 3.

  32. Because we would win more games and maybe compete. The season is only 1/4 over and lots can happen. Robert, Madrigal & Cease can be brought up... and Kouchel and/or Kimbrel might appear.... a key injury or injuries on teams in front happens frequently...stuff happens. Also, I don't just look forward to the baseball season all offseason to give up after only 1/4 of it has been played. I'll remind you that in 2006 we had the kind of lead Minnesota has now...we didn't win.

  36. It’s funny looking at the Charlotte lineup and mostly everyone has eye popping numbers but then there’s Engel with a 188 BA and 476 OPS even after collecting two hits tonight. 💩

  38. Why are people treating a squeeze bunt and a sac bunt in the same way? They are pretty clearly different things. If executed, one results in an opportunity to score a run, the other results in a run. Runs are the point of the game, and yes, you always want to maximize your chances to score them. Sometimes, though, late in a tie game, 1 is all you need. Also, properly executed, like last night, Squeeze bunts often do not result in an out. You can look at the data and draw conclusions. But using the general data universally isn't necessarily the best thing. There will always be exceptions. Instances where the mass data does not apply, but the exact situation needs to be considered. Also, there is nothing more exciting than a squeeze bunt. So that was fun.

  39. The bad motives behind the trade are part of it. The ridiculously inept and lazy scouting are another part of it.

  40. Yeah, I was a young kid in the 90s, but it seemed like we got all these random guys who would just be great. Dave Martinez came to us at age 30, coming off three injury-riddled NL seasons where he accumulated a .677 OPS. With us for the 1995-97 seasons, he played 409 games and had an .810 OPS. DJ had a ,678 OPS when he came to us in 1994 and put up an .817 OPS. Julio Franco had a career year with us that same year, at age 35. Mike Devereaux goes .109 beyond his established career OPS in 92 games with us in 1995 until we trade him for Andre King (???). Lyle Mouton and Norberto Martin post solid numbers in utility roles for several years of the late '90s. Brook Fordyce was a nobody who became a solid catcher for a few years (funnily, ten year old me thought he was awful, probably because he hit nine home runs in 1999, and I thought everyone should hit 40 like in video games). That aside, he had an .802 OPS in 105 games that year! And then Chris Singleton comes out of nowhere to be well above average for a couple of years. Now as an adult, I'm used to hitters coming to us and totally sucking (Swisher, Dunn, LaRoche, Frazier, etc), and when we do have a success story, it's someone like Daniel Palka being a flash in the pan. Our randoms never seem to turn into useful players anymore (ok, ok James McCann), but it wasn't always like this. I miss those 90s teams.

  41. Everything you posted is correct, and true. However, what has bothered me about this stupid move was that those mouth-breathing morons in the front office thought: 1. The shitty 2016 roster that they dropped on us, AND 2. the shitty, moronic manager who never wanted to be here, and wasn't even a HEAD coach in HS, 3. Collectively had a snowball's chance in hell of competing. In other words, KW/RH/JR are all collectively too stupid to tell the difference between a GOOD team, and a poor one. So set aside that anyone with a 3-digit IQ and working eyes could have seen that Shields was one of the suckiest sucks that ever sucked. Set aside that Shields could have/SHOULD have been gotten for mere money/salary relief/NO prospect equity. The people still running this org are simply too dumb to do their jobs. They were dumb in 2016, and I see little to suggest that they've gotten smarter since then. FFS, the squandering of resources on turds like Jay and Alonzo and others, and then whining about the price tag for Machado reinforces the idea that they don't know a good player from a poor one. THAT'S what truly hurts about this idiotic, moronic, and dumb trade. RH/KW/JR ALL deserve a verbal beating for being fucking morons. And yes, Tatis' likely ascension to stardom will be the constant reminder that we have imbeciles running this team [into the ground].

  44. Is this the end of the Nate Jones era in Chicago? Always a good pitcher, when healthy, but crazy that he pitched in more than 70 games just once in the last 6 seasons. Rodon just can't be trusted. I'm sure we will read how great he is doing around this time next year and how he can be the needed boost for the White Sox rotation should they somehow be in contention next season. Very difficult times for White Sox fans. The rebuild has shown some hope this season with Anderson and Machado, but the injuries are just taking down the chance of any sustained rebuild.
    1 point
  45. Actually, I meant it’s a common occurrence for Rodon. He has been injured every season for his past four seasons. He cannot he relied on. On July 9, 2016, Rodón was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a left wrist sprain. For the 2017 season, Rodón spent time on the disabled list, only being able to start in 12 games for the White Sox. He began the 2018 season on the 60 day disabled list with a shoulder injury. On May 13, 2019, the Sox announced that Carlos Rodon (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery this week.
