  1. How they handled him is fucking puzzling.

  3. This is absolutely ridiculous. You really believe there was a huge red flag that Jake Burger was going to rupture his Achilles before he was even drafted? Serious man?

  4. What? Yoenis Cespedes has never even finished top-8 in MVP voting. Puig has never finished better than top-15. Abreu has finished 4th. None of this really matters but the argument you're making is just not even close to being true.

  5. At least he’ll finally get playing time again. Thanks for nothing, Rick and Ricky, you stupid assholes.

  9. I'm already resigned to the idea that Moncada and Robert, at the very least, are going to walk. This is going to be a very limited window so they should maximize it. If they keep worrying about service time at this point there will be no window.

  10. The fact that Rondon and Palka were getting ABs ahead of Collins despite the handedness of the pitcher is a disgrace. One of your top prospects and Ricky starts those scrubs. Embarrassing

  11. Collins has a right to be pissed, he was badly misused and then a player from another organization was bumped ahead of him in line. Or they completely misread his preparedness to hit/adjust at the next level. Not much of a reward, at any rate.

  17. Sorry if this is not the right place to post this, but the last time I noticed I was in AA and now I am on the 40 man roster!! I might never go to O'Hare again in fear that someone from Soxtalk will inform me I've been sent down again. On second thought, I could still be in AA but on the 40 man...that's OK I'm still quite excited for the opportunity.

  18. But why would that person pretend that they were Zack Collins and claim they were going to Charlotte? What are the odds that person even knows who Zack Collins is? Why did this person look upset/angry? These questions need answers.

  20. Why do people always want to take on the cubs shitty problematic players? Russell? Heyward? I'd rather literally give players away than get those 2 back.

  24. So Yolmer is today's scapegoat for stinking it up in Oakland? Is it time to release him? Yes, I would rather see Madrigal at 2nd base now too. But, for whatever reason, he's not here, so clearly Yolmer is the best we got to put there. Hopefully Madrigal will be there next year, but I really think we gotta ride the season out with Sanchez. Rondon is batting .203, Yolmer is batting .250; that's a huge difference, huge. Yes, he started out the year very badly defensively, but if we're gonna cite small samples, he also threw out two guys at home and threw out a guy at 3rd in that one Boston game. There's an awful lot going on defensively for him to have pulled that off. I used to coach basketball, and I had this backup senior post player, and he drove me crazy: he'd get burned on out-of-bounds plays, could only score on offensive rebounds; no offensive threat, and he just took up space. Well, after one game I freaked out with my assistants that we gotta quit playing him; he give us nothing. I was yelling at them. They all agreed with his problems, but then they calmly pointed out that there is no one else better. All the guys on JV were too small and could never defend the post or get a rebound. We had to play him because that's all there was to put in as a back up. Until Madrigal comes up, Yolmer is all we have at 2nd base, and really, he is far from terrible.

  26. I think your greatly over estimating the value of a number ten pick. Getting a major leaguer period would be a good outcome.

  27. All fans believe in winning above everything. Including those in favor of "tanking" or "building"... whatever we want to call it. That's the point of being a fan... you want to win. I would personally rather pickup a young player who could help us try to win a world series each of the next 4-5 seasons. As opposed to keep a veteran who could help us beat Detroit in September this year. But hey... that's just me being "flip happy". Wanting to win a world series in 2020 or 2021 instead of wanting to beat the Royals in September IS a belief in "winning above everything". I would say it's actually a much stronger belief and requires that much more dedication to winning. You want to win a bunch of meaningless, small battles which will be forgotten weeks after they are played out. I want to win multiple wars that will be remembered for eternity.

  33. The median net worth in the United States is ~97k. Unless you know something about the user base of SoxTalk that I don't there is just no way that is true. But this quickly torpedoing into a bad/worthless discussion so that's all I'm going to say.

  34. Half of SoxTalk is worth at least 50% of Jimenez’s $2.6 million. Less than 1% will end up with $20+ million. A world of difference, especially when you account for inflation and future buying/investing power.

  35. These two posts are mostly hyperbole but there are some nuggets of truth sprinkled in there. This should be the last year that the Sox are trying to flip guys. If we are still sellers at the deadline next year then heads need to start rolling over at 35th and Shields.

  36. They used the kids as an excuse stating they had to resign all of them when their contracts expired which was why that couldn't commit the two extra years to Manny. Them blaming the kids was the most outrageous part about that entire process imo.

  37. Honestly, I think it's because we have so many crap players whose days here are limited. Yolmer will be replaced by Madrigal in the near future, so personally, I'm ambivalent towards him now.

  38. What are you talking about? It's clear now that Hahn used a tenth overall pick to find the backup catcher of the future! It's a move so brilliant and forward thinking that it's beyond our capability for comprehension! Don't doubt the Hahnster!

  39. Wrong - AGAIN! “Tanking”, as it’s too commonly referred to these days, on boards such as this one, refers to complete anti-ethical behavior on behalf of the Major League team. Every MLB team is responsible for fielding a team each and every day capable of winning that day’s game to the best of that organization’s ability. Anything less is a compromise of that team’s ethical approach to the game. And that is agnostic to any market.

  40. I agree. Leave him down until 5/1/20. Blame it on wanting him to come up when it's not as cold. IDGAF. I want this guy for as long as possible.

  41. I was just thinking the same thing. No need to rush him. The last 50% of games he’s played in AAA, he’s averaging only one extra base hit per game.

  43. It was a bad process that led to the worst case result. Hopefully Hahn learned from it.
    1 point
  44. Again, it's not that they traded him. It's who they traded him for. A guy that we should have never traded for and taken on his salary in the first place. That's why myself and so many others have always hated this trade and shows that Hahn has literally no clue what he's doing.
