The Astros are run by a bunch of assbags. I've never wanted a team to lose more in my entire life.3 points

He was the 4th reliever on a last place team in April. And he gave up a losing homer on Opening Day. MLB bullpens man.2 points

You were the same guy saying last winter the Sox shouldn’t spend money on signing a Free agent to DH because Daniel Palka could provide “cheap production.” How’d that work out? $45M to fill those two positions in 2020 and 2021 isn’t a problem if those two produce like they did in 2019.2 points

I’ve said it before with regards to Yermin, but Sox likely feel they had a better shot of keeping him in the org this way. He’s unlikely to be taken in the rule 5 draft as a DH, cause he can’t catch. If Sox added him to 40 man and then DFAd or out righted him if they needed the spot, he’d be gone to another team that wouldn’t have to keep him on the 25 man all season. Yermin probably isn’t a major league player, so I’m not going to get too worked up on it, but I would venture a guess the Sox felt it would be easier to retain him as depth this way.2 points

A little odd to think that Wheeler is going to develop into Cole when he’s already older...2 points

https://www.mlb.com/news/zack-wheeler-has-potential-comp-in-gerrit-cole With Cole’s beginning asking price at $250 million (according to Jeff Passan) and Strasburg’s value rocketing into the stratosphere...not to mention the increasing risks 8-9 years out from the previous TJ surgery increasing by the day...Wheeler should be White Sox choice 1, 1A, 1B, 1C. He’s really the only guy left with true TOR stuff...the article above lists his many parallels with Gerrit Cole.1 point

Another franchise with their first title. Congrats to former Sox Adam Eaton, Daniel Hudson and the eminently forgettble Javy Guerra.1 point

The only thing I really don't think I'd do is pull Greinke when they did. I wouldn't have had Cole sitting down there "Warm" waiting for Greinke to walk someone, so I get that part.1 point

It shows the value of a 1st baseman who can make picks. Abreu needs to stop playing 1st base ASAP. He's a complete and utter joke out there.1 point

Fire Boylen. It was a joke they brought him back. If they think they are a legit playoff team, they aren’t playing like one.1 point

Another awful Bulls finish. Lavine is just a mess. Awful defense and can’t finish in the paint unless it’s a dunk. The season is a week old and already is a chore to watch.1 point

Teams were not in the market to pay for starting pitching. Teams like the Sox, Twins, Brewers, Cubs, etc will probably not wait for Cole and Stras to sign. They will be hot after Wheeler and Bum, and no one wants to end up empty handed. No one also wants to play the Ryu and Jake O game too quickly.1 point

I'm starting to get very excited about the possibility of Martinez in the middle of our lineup next season. It would be awesome if Boston does not give the QO since the Sox seem very hesitant to give up any draft picks.1 point

I think Texas has a ton of money available to spend, at least as much as Chicago, counting the opening of a new ballpark. The Dodgers and Yankees are in good shape, the Nationals have enough room to retain their 2 big guys if they want, the Giants could have a ton of money to spend, the Braves are in good shape for a big move or two.1 point

He literally does everything we need from a DH spot. I don't get the drawback here. He is elite and gets on 37% of the time.1 point

You've probably stated it somewhere in here over the past month, but I am curious, what exactly would your offseason plan be? Seems you always say if we invest in SP, the lineup will suck. If we invest in the lineup, the pitching will suck. Maybe you just think the Sox will suck regardless, but what would you do this offseason if you were in charge to put the Sox in the best position to contend in 2020, but also for multiple years thereafter.1 point

20 million per is the starting point now for good but not great pitchers. Add in desperation and bidding wars and the price gets ridiculous.1 point

150-160? Zero chance. 115-130 will be his zone. Corbin got 125 and he had thrown more innings, was coming off a better year and had a lesser injury history.1 point

Wheeler and Cole are both 29. What other pitcher on the FA market has the stuff to be a #2 in our rotation? Ryu, if he could stay healthy and actually wanted to leave LA, maybe. Because of all the question marks...Wheeler shouldn’t be getting more than Corbin. If I had to guess, he should top out in the $100-120 million range. Cole will get double that...so you’re basically putting almost all your eggs in one basket. Wheeler allows you to also address RF, DH and bench, bullpen. Very easy to imagine Wheeler, Grandal, Moustakas and a RH reliever making this team a real threat to do some damage in 2020. Or Wheeler, JDM and a reliever, if you want to keep it as realistic as possible. That would still theoretically allow them to look at cheaper options for RF that are just looking for everyday opportunities to rebuild their value, like Dickerson, Gennett, etc.1 point

As is Strasburg. He's having one of the best postseasons of all-time. Couldn't be more excited for Game 7.1 point

I don’t see anyone advocating the Sox sign 3 Melky Cabrera types this offseason. That would be like bringing in Yasiel Puig, Travis d’Arnaud, and Edwin Encarnacion as the three primary FA additions. They should and will land better players than that tier.1 point

He and all of the players, coaches, and staff have been saying they expect big things next season and playoffs. The only folks doubting things are is fans. I will still believe it when I see it.1 point

You should see some layout changes emerge in the next 24 hours. One thing I can't remove is the very top one (or at least I don't know how) and I will point out ads do support all of the hosting costs. Without them, Soxtalk wouldn't be Soxtalk.1 point
