  1. I mostly just lurk, but please give it a rest. I think we all know your feelings on Abreu by now. There's no need to put the same opinion up over and over and over....

  2. Very quiet on the Rendon front. Makes me wonder if the Sox are going to be an under the radar team like the padres last year. By signing Rendon they would be addressing the RF need as well by moving TA, Moncada or Madrigal to RF. Plus I think Rendon will be a bargain compared to what Muchado got and hes a better player and fit. Imagine that lineup.

  3. They’re the same people that b**** and moan about Tatis. And then when Madrigal or Cease become stars in Boston and Mookie signs somewhere after one year in Chicago, they’ll have a new negative bandwagon to jump on. The whole premise of trading for Mookie Betts is ridiculously dumb and short sighted.

  4. “This aggressive”? They’ve signed one guy.

  5. The number is $30M, not $300M. Even if you add $30M right now to the payroll, they are no where near the luxury cap. This is a foolish argument.

  6. If you read any of these "insider" tweets it sounds like he's close to signing. So probably sometime in January.

  8. He's given up a scary amount of HR's. I don't think he would translate well going from NL to AL + GRF.

  9. I think he's saying knocked her up, jokingly? Could be wrong.

  10. Take a chance and sign CF Billy Hamilton. If he doesn't work out at least we will have good speed off the bench.

  11. This is exactly what this board needed: another idiotic Tatis thread. Enjoy the strong start to the offseason or buy a Padres cap.

  13. Bumgarner pitched in a fucking airport for half his games and still gave up 30 HR. He had a 504 slugging % and 840 OPS against him on the road. That translates to terrible moving into a smaller park. If they can't land Wheeler they need to make a trade.

  14. I'm really enjoying this 49ers Packers game.

  15. I don't have any issues with them going after Bumgarner. Even though it feels like he's 35 years old, he's somehow only 30.

  17. I also think Collins is severely underrated around here even though he got quite a bit of support in the Collnis thread. I suppose the negative voices are the loudest because everyone is unsure about his catching and he looked bad the 1st time up. Someone like Mendick didn't set the world on fire at Charlotte at least not the way Collins did and he did great in his SSS time with the Sox. Plus Collins put up crazy numbers in July and August when he went back down and finished with very strong numbers in his last 8 games with the Sox (yes very SSS and cherry picking). Remember the Sox got Colome for Narvaez and he was a terrible catcher with good OBP and limited power (supposedly) with not much of a minor league track record. Obviously a late bloomer who the Sox thought they were selling high but turns out they sold low on him. Compare what Collins did in the minors to Narvaez and Collins blows him away. I think Collins has a lot of value being a LH , high OBP power bat even with questionable catching skills Do we really think he is worth any less than Narvaez was even with Narvaez having been in the bigs for a few years but with only around 700 PA's but showing a slight uptick every year before he was traded. The whole reason why we are all so stoked about getting Grandal is he is a scarcity, a good hitting switch hitting catcher w/ great framing skills and high OBP but he's an otherwise mediocre catcher defensively. Collins has a chance, in my view, tobe a strong part of what makes Grandal so rare, good hitter, high OBP and likely even more power. so all he has to do is become a good framer and everyone will be able to live with mediocre catching skills like they do with Grandal. Now is not the time to start dealing prospects for veterans . I could however see a prospects for prospects trade for a LH/SH hitting OF who is ML ready. Sam Hilliard who had a big season in AAA then came up with the Rockies and performed well, is a big LH with big power and a high K rate who despite his size (6'5" 238) is pretty fast and a good arm. Of course it's possible the Rocks rather move Charlie Blackmon than Hilliard. Blackmon's defense is pretty shoddy . The Rockies also have another AAA guy who got a look in the bigs, Jonathon Daza . He bats RH, doesn't K much, hits for high average but limited power. Defensively he's described as a ballhawk and has a 70 grade arm. He played CF in the Rockies system. Hilliard isi the 9th rated prospect and Daza 10th in the Rockies system. Both are 25 yrs old. Anyone interested in looking at these guys can go here : http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=col

  18. More and more red zone issues. Bad play calling. Offense has actually moved ball but not a lot to show for it. Again, coaching is a huge issue with this offense. Has its marks all over the field week in and week out. Still 95 yard drive is still a positive! Last week against Rams, it was all over local radio this week comments from their defense indicating they knew what the Bears were going to run all the time.

  19. Castillo + Delmonico + Reed + Cordell + Skole + Rondon + Tilson + Jay + Alonso + Palka = - 3.8 oWar I really hope that the days of a portal between AAA and Bridgeport are over.

  24. I wanted MM as much as anybody here, but I really can’t complain with the way things have tuned out. Moncada has turned into a star at 3B (sure, could have happened at 2B too). Give me Grandal + Wheeler + big time RF in 2021 FA and I think I’d prefer that allocation of funds as opposed to $300M to just MM. I don’t expect it to be too long before that Machado contract is an albatross.

  25. Agreed. The Sox could have a 200 million dollar payroll if they wanted. Why do fans allow themselves to get emotionally played by these owners ? The Sox could go out and sign Cole AND Strasburg if they wanted. The Sox can draw 3 million people annually to GRF if they wanted. It's not the fans responsibility to make the product competitive, that's on ownership. And for you Reinsdorf apologists, what say you about how he treats the Bulls fanbase ? Consistently top 3 in attendance since the Jordan years. That "50 cents" BS doesn't play well on West Madison...

  26. There are so many meatball fans on Twitter who want to trade Madrigal for one year of Betts without him signing an extension lol. These people are absolutely clueless.

  27. I would agree that the Red Sox will want Cease + for Betts. As I said previously, they won't want Vaughn based on their existing prospects nor Madrigal bases on the fact they promoted last year's top prospect who plays 2nd. I say pass on Betts but maybe Vaughn or Madrigal for a stud AA/AAA OF prospect would be worth exploring. That is assuming Hahn does not see what he wants in FA.

  28. I would just like the long term RF fix (doesn’t have to be this year) to be a plus defender. One thing with the Mets, I do think the most attractive deal to them included “today” assets. One would be bummer -> so you’d need to anticipate spending on maybe a Pomeranz. An interesting one could be Rodon. Gives them 1.5 years of a cheap starter, possible elite bullpen. I don’t really buy the latter but VW seems to have a different feel than other Gms as he is in addition mode so who knows. Id rather give more for Conforto though if possible.

  29. This is almost certainly a fake insider account, but figured it’s worth documenting over the extremely tiny chance dude is the next WetButt. The good news is we’ll know one way or the other by Monday and can put this account on insider perma-ban if wrong.

  30. That's not how it works. Grandal and Abreu are already 35+ mil per year, which is beyond what Machado makes. It's about dollars per season, not total dollars for the life of the contracts. Your post is spinning numbers.

  31. Insanity is 11 years without a playoff appearance as the only large market team in a division filled with 4 of the 8 lowest local tv broadcast rights deals in all of MLB...and operating like a “beg packer” in Thailand instead of a Top 10-12 franchise in terms of Forbes valuation. At one point we were 8th. Now we are all the way down to #13-14-15 because of JR/KW/Hahn...so the question remains, do we really want to win it all or just put the team in a position to be contending and make more moves in June/July? Even that strategy is dubious when you need to run $160+ million payrolls to get to the ALCS/NLCS.

  33. Let’s say each of our five outfield prospects (Micker, Gonzalez, Basabe, Walker, Rutherford) has only a 15% chance to be a solid regular. That means there is a 56% chance that at least one of of them will be a solid regular. If you think each one has a 20% chance of panning out, that means there’s a 74% chance at least one makes it. Point being, I think it’s likely that at least one of them could be our long term solution. I would go after a one year stop gap option and then reevaluate the prospects. We’ll have a better idea next offseason, and if it seems like all five will flop, then we can sign somebody next year.

  37. I can't believe we just LET Quintana go. He was a 22 year old LEFTY coming off a 10-2 record with a sub 3 ERA and we just dumped him on the side of the road. We are the dumbest organization ever. If we'd kept him we probably win three World Series and then we trade him to the Cubs...imagine our team with Jiminez and Cease added to our core....its the fifties all over again. Honestly I cant get over it. Wait...this is meatball Yankees talk, right?

  38. You aren't being fair here. Greg is an important part of the community, he has well over 30,000 posts and most certainly is NOT a troll. Greg's opinion of Abreu is pretty bad IMO, it's similar to my dad who yesterday told me that the Abreu deal was a 'steal' and he gave us a 'hometown discount.' I chuckled and rolled my eyes. However, it IS nice in sports to have a guy stay with a team and be loyal. I'm lukewarm about the deal, but what in Greg's post makes it an abomination and worthy of calling a troll?

  39. Thanks for explaining. My take is that trading Cease, Madrigal or any significant piece for 1 year of Mookie Betts is fucking stupid. The Sox would still be a longshot to win the division. Its not worth it, and any package we can create that doesn't include a significant piece isn't going to get accept.

  40. Tatis is awesome. However OP, if the white sox didn't make this trade, they would have made other moves around it. You can't just take the trade away and assume all else stays the same. (butterfly effect?). So, if it eases your mind, they probably still would have traded him away for a different package or something a long the lines. Who knows. Ultimately, not worth banging your head about.

  41. My glee in watching Cubs fans witness Jimenez and Cease contribute mightily to our next championship will far outweigh any disappointment with what Tatis does with San Diego.

  43. Ron, let's say you are there on Opening Day or the second game. They introduce Abreu. Standing ovation. Do you boo him? Rip him so others can hear you sitting around you? I guarantee you'd get the weirdest looks from fans at the Cell, like "what is wrong with this guy? What's he got against Abreu?" This would be like back in the day some Cub fans booing Ernie Banks when he got older or Willie Mays. Or Harold Baines. At some point as a fan you should (in my world) just be happy the guy is with your team, forget about stuff like age and contracts and CHEER. Is it that hard to realize veterans like Jose help win pennants and are integral part of teams? I'm not sure what kind of roster you want? Or is it all the fact he chews? That seems a weird reason to despise him. Trust me in this day and age where mommy and daddy monitor their kids' every moves, they ain't letting their teenagers chew just cause Jose does. And parents go to all their kids' games, so they'd see if they snuck a chew.

  44. It's done, it's over. Worst part is we got damaged goods and Padres didn't get disciplined.

  45. I take a backseat to no one in my hatred of the trade. Hated it at the time because I had read a positive profile of Tatis, but c’mon, do we really need another thread complaining about this? What’s done, sadly, is done.

  46. Another day another awful contract. If this is part of a major splash in FA fine but we've essentially committed 36 million AAV to two guys who are 30+ and both of these guys got one more year then they should have which means probably the only reason why they signed this early is because our offer blew all others out of the water. If you look at why the good teams are good and the bad teams are bad it's moves like these. The smart teams wait for the market to come to them. Now we see if this is part of a larger splash all I can say is it better damn well be if they are going to blow money like this it better be as part of some huge splash. Otherwise if we are operating under a similar 120 million ish budget we are screwed.
