  2. The rumor is that he was going at 13 to San Francisco if the Sox didn't take him. He didn't really have any incentive to agree to an underslot deal.

  3. They didn't have to. I think 5% over was like $388K. That's why I was expecting a better player in round 3 and 4. They could've easily signed 3 guys for $150K or so instead of what they did. They needed to make sure they had the bonus slots for Kelley though I was suppose.

  4. I’m curious to see him a year from now, after being on a ML nutrition and strength and conditioning program. The knock on him was that he wasn’t very well conditioned and had a bit of a now body but let’s see if the Sox can work on it with him.

  5. We forgot to flatten the curve and many leaders refuse to wear a mask. There were numerous mis-steps and we could have done better. Not our shining moment. Our country is too divided to meet this challenge.

  6. The governments of Texas, Florida, and Arizona declares that things were safe in April. They got praise from the president repeatedly, and Texas’s governor said he got specific approval for his reopening timeline from Dr. Birx. How’d that work out?

  7. He means if they went over. They could’ve gone 5% over which is like $380K and then paid a 75% overage tax on that amount. They didn’t do that this year. Honestly though, this draft only cost Reinsdorf $360K right now. Rest of the bonus is deferred

  8. Just tired of reading this. Vaccines aren't magic. There is no guarantee we will have one, let alone one that will actually work against this disease. We have to stop living in bubble. If medicine and government see that it's reasonable to have gatherings at 20% right now, then go for it. Take the proper measures (face mask, distancing, washing hands) and move forward. If you're still concerned, then stay home and come out in 2025.

  9. Auburn southpaw Bailey Horn was the 3rd best player in the Sox draft class. They signed him for $150K. I wrote about him here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/06/28/white-sox-give-fifth-rounder-bailey-horn-third-biggest-signing-bonus-of-their-2020-draft/

  10. Every time you say "it's weird", it turns out to not be weird. Of course health departments have to worry about that. That's why you need to limit major events, because if 1 person picks it up it's a problem but not a crisis and local health departments can work to contain that and slow the spread, but if 50 people pick it up in an area you have a major problem. It's also why it's so important to get the total case loads low and keep them there, because otherwise it re-ignites, as you can see everywhere across the south.

  11. This is pretty much what I'm looking at for today. The full 40 man roster will be part of the 60 player pool. I'm guessing Lambert goes on 45 day DL whenever that's allowed. Seby Zavala and Jose Ruiz could have 40 man spots in jeopardy. These are the options in my opinion for the other 20 players. Position Players Nick Madrigal Andrew Vaughn Gavin Sheets Luis Gonzalez Jake Burger Cheslor Cuthbert Nicky Delmonico Daniel Palka Andrew Romine Carlos Perez Jaycub Brugman Yolbert Sanchez Pitchers Codi Heuer Tyler Johnson Jonathan Stiever Garrett Crochet Will Kincanon Jared Kelley Andrew Dalquist Matthew Thompson Jacob Lindgren Drew Anderson Ross Detwiler Tayron Guerrero Brady Lail Alex McRae Kodi Medeiros Adalberto Mejia Bryan Mitchell

  12. Has there been any actual clarity on what the Sox plan to do? Yes? No? Any further info from the Mayor and or Governor? Can we change the title to reflect that a Cubs fan radio blowhard suggested that the Sox might allow fans into park, but has no real intel to back his baseless statement instead?

  14. Dr. Pepper doesn’t taste like sugary prune juice or cough syrup, it’s the greatest soft drink ever invented. And no, servers/wait staff out there, you can not just arbitrarily decide to substitute Mr. Pibb and think it won’t be noticed, as it definitely will. Another important point, we Dr. Pepper addicts like the fountain taste at Sonic Drive-In or Chick-Fil-A as much as any chain or franchise. And definitely prefer in an aluminum can (Big 12 logo) or glass bottle to the plastic twenty-ounce variety.

  16. Jared Kelley signed for $3 million and Bailey Horn is getting $150K. The White Sox saved Reinsdorf $7K and didn't go over their pool. I'm sure he's pleased.

  21. And way behind the countries on top of the board. Belguim has twice as many per million as we do. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/ This also isn't including countries like China, Russia, etc. who are sure to be cooking their books. Notice that all of the countries towards the top are UK, France, Italy, Sweden, Ireland, etc. You know... some of the nations with the most traffic, industry, etc. Considering all of the traffic that comes in and out of this country. We're doing pretty damn good. And that's not how it works. We're experience a bit of a spike now but that's what it is... a spike. We will spike will some others slow. Then, we will slow while others spike. At the end of the day; this damn thing got here in December. From there, it was on its own. Perhaps it's not safe for all of us to be rushing back to work. There is/was going to be a spike WHENEVER we go back. I don't think people understand the point of the shutdown. It was never to eradicate the virus. We will ALL be exposed eventually. It's to space out the spikes so we have the ability to care for everyone and hospitals/doctors don't get over run. It's working. People honestly are under the impression that quarantining/shutting down was supposed to permanently flatten and get rid of this. It was never intended to do that. We're trying to space out the waves until we get a vaccine.

  22. It was handled poorly. Relative to whom? We don't even BEGIN to approach the top of the list in COVID deaths per million inhabitants. Which developed nation didn't see this virus spread? I'm not sure what could have been handled better. The shit came here and it spread. Like viruses do. We shutdown. The spread slowed. We reopened (had mass protests) and there has been a spike. Not to mention, since re-openings, the economy has begun a recovery. If it's safe for me to work. If it's safe for my girlfriend to work. If it's safe for my family and friends to work. It's more than safe enough for athletes in their 20's and early 30's to play baseball. With far better testing capabilities, medical attention, and restrictions than the rest of us will have.
