  1. Benetti is fantastic. Those who don't like benetti, I dont really understand. Sox have one of the best play by play guys in sports

  3. It's such an absurd argument when you consider the risks of the different paths. Let's say that the covid denialists are right, this thing is completely overblown, nearly every government around the world has been hoodwinked along with the overwhelming majority of the world's virology and epidemiology experts. Democrats in this country are intentionally hamstringing the economy and overhyping this in order to damage Trump/GOP. So in that case, what possible harm does wearing the mask actually do? Best case, you wore an extra piece of clothing while out in public for a little bit as a show of consideration for your fellow citizens who were naively scared. This whole thing would be under control without masks, but they didn't cause any harm. Worst case, you're wrong, the actual experts are right, and you wearing the mask helped get this thing under control that much quicker! Or, you don't wear a mask, and you're right. Ok, what did you gain? Smug satisfaction, but not much else. Or you don't wear a mask, and you're wrong, and now you've increased the danger for everyone's health and our economic capabilities that much more. Maybe you even directly kill someone by spreading the infection to them. It's the ultimate display of a completely selfish ideology. Minimal personal inconvenience for very high potential reward (greatly reduced illness/death/economic damage), or selfishness with very high potential negative consequences.

  4. Are people delusional enough to not see coronavirus has crushed revenues across all sports/entertainment industries? I don't see the controversy here, but people love to bash pro sports owners, then say nothing about the wealthy owners of corporations who are laying off millions of employees and crying for bailouts. MLB owners will take big losses this year, and with no fans likely in 2021, the losses will likely be higher if they play a full season. And I'm sure a lot of owners would love to sell, but the Mets bidding shows franchise values are already down 50%, and that will continue to go down. Sure people want to buy the Mets, because the Wilpons will sell even for pennies on the dollar. Nobody is saying feel bad for the owners, they'll be fine. But the economic reality of covid-19 and the US economy, which includes sports, can't be ignored. Sports aren't immune and there are zero other businesses in this country where owners would take tens of millions in losses just to pay millionaire employees more. MLB is a business and in a capitalist society businesses that don't make profits usually don't last very long. And it's weird people feel bad for MLB players. These guys are on such a pedestal and are in the 1% already. Feel bad for minor leaguers, team employees, and the millions of Americans going through actual financial hardship

  5. Um, rightfully so. These millionaires and billionaires just don't have it in them to shut up. The best way to answer the question from the reporter about how it's going financially is to say - "I decline to go into detail there as I don't think it's appropriate to complain based on the position I'm in" He wasn't that bad in the article, but let's be honest, he should be smart enough to know how the article and title would be spun. These few owners that come out and talk about the losses are absolute idiots. Let me tell you how this works - if it was a bad investment you wouldn't have teams of millionaires and billioinaires lined up to buy the Mets or having the Royals sell for what they did. The fact is, it's an extremely lucrative business. Also surprise surprise that he's trying to cry poor to sign free agents.. It's the same ol' same ol' for Uncle jerry and always will be. It's never about winning, its never about making families happy, it's not about the players... it's about his pocketbook.

  7. Most people agree with Betsy Devos, partisanship aside. She has been a great advocate for improvement in our education system.
    3 points
  8. She married into the super-rich Amway fortune family. That’s her lone education qualification. Nepotism. She’s never had the perfect anything. She’s basically ordering teachers and students to walk through a firing squad of bullets every day...with 5 or 7 of those 100 bullets during long lasting damage to an American family that no amount of money will fix. The American thing would have been to give 91% of the $3 trillion spent so far to those earning under $75,000 as a household. Instead, they only got a measly 9%. “Draining the swamp” in reverse and exchanging corporate welfare for a lost generation saddled with paying off the massive $26 trillion debt accrued over the last forty years.

  13. Because of the federal response, which was slow, and then Trump thought it would be a good time to play Celebrity Apprentice-Governors edition, and pitted states against each other to increase prices and screw up the supply chain for PPE to our front lines, and have no federal response, the US is not in position like most other countries to open up, so yes, they probably should be printing more money now and handing it out to people who cannot work right now.

  14. My proposed Idea is to let people drive drunk. But Betsy Devos has presented the perfect option of having drunk driving choice, so if you are willing to drive drunk, do it. And if not, use a different option you find appropriate. Common sense. Be American, do what's best for your family and don't oppress others with communist democrat ideas.

  16. Hey Just, out of curiosity why was there so much pushback? Here the people are scared to death and don't want grade school, high school and colleges to open. Why are parents wanting school opened when COVID is rampant? Is it the fact online option was/is a joke or the fact parents need to work and be out of the house?

  17. The solution was to wear masks, shut things down and stop the spread back in March/April. But we couldnt pull together. Almost every other country could do it. We just didnt prioritize schools, we prioritized our rights not to wear masks. The US still is fighting the science. Why even have school? We dont listen to scientists anyways.

  18. Sounds like JR is greasing the skids to justify a lean 2021 budget and then a lockout wipes out 2022 so basically like 1994 they are gonna kneecap a good portion of our championship window. Thanks, JR.

  20. I can appreciate that JR is concerned about the 2021 season. I am concerned too. Loss of revenue is real and it's a real challenge for the business bottom line. I'm also concerned about paying my bills, and keeping my apartment, and my bank account, and my long term employment prospects after the decimation of my entire industry. But only one of us will be gainfully employed today, tomorrow, and in the coming year before a vaccine is readily available. So forgive me if I find the timing of these articles/interviews rather distasteful and unsavory while so many of us are trying to figure out our livelihoods in the now and the immediate future...

  21. We had 12 straight days of 110 degrees here in AZ. Is the hot weather here yet? I’m tired of COVID 19.

  22. Oh not the White House deliberately obfuscating data and cutting the CDC out of national health care authority in favor of political hacks. I'm talking about the breathless "Russian intelligence assets stole COVID vaccine test data!" reporting. Ok, good. Maybe they will use that data to assist in development of their own vaccine. That information should be being shared globally and publicly anyway. This is a pandemic. Unless they actually damaged or destroyed the original Oxford vaccine data, I don't really care if more people now have access to it.

  23. No. The Royals were sold BEFORE the pandemic. The Mets bids are said to be 50% at best the franchise's pre-covid value. The "spin" is coming from people like you who ignore that we are in another Great Depression-level economy. Baseball WAS lucrative. It isn't anymore, at least not in a pandemic, and the only people who want in do so because teams like the Mets are going for clearance prices.

  26. Yes, there is a demand for restaurants to be open, there is a demand for schools to be open, demand for air travel, but it can't be met due to unnecessary restrictions (the uneducated would call them protections). I believe there is definitely some cause for concern when you see the Government trying to "protect" us so much. If you think them doling out money to citizens is a good thing, that's fine, but I can't believe that is a good strategy.

  27. LEAST POPULAR: BETSY DEVOS,who has 28% favorable, and 40% unfavorable rating. JEFF SESSIONS: 34% (-4% net), RICK PERRY: 30% (-3% net), STEVEN MNUCHIN: 26% (-3% net), RYAN ZINKE: 22% favorable, 22% unfavorable, 22% have no opinion of him, and 34% haven’t heard of him. politico.com Can the Left really wish death on others? What’s the point? Those numbers are not even being reported anymore. It’s laughable after all the attacks on China that we’re openly operating like the worse totalitarian regimes around the world...and nobody is even slightly surprised because we’re so anesthetized to it all. Meanwhile, we will see Mulan in Wuhan movie theatres with national chains across the country opening up beginning on Monday, six months after the lockdown originally was imposed.

  30. And if 75% of teachers and even 50% of teachers choose online or hybrid...then what? Not adhering to science...better yet, the complete disregard of sound science and reason, is most certainly NOT American. In America, we value every individual life and fight to our fullest to protect those lives...knowing there will always be ways to make that money back with American ingenuity and perseverance. We were not a country that was based on economic opportunity cost valuations of every person, regardless of race, creed or color. Killing off more lives than any country in the world despite spending the highest on GDP per capita on health care expenses in the entire world isn’t American. Threatening to remove health care security in the midst of the worst national crisis since World Two and the Great Depression is not an American value. Communist/socialist beliefs value the contribution of the working class...refusing to lead essential workers like lambs to the slaughter. They embrace the ideas of solidarity, not divisiveness and lives lived by the decrees of the privileged few making decisions about what is best for them, not the greatest good for the greatest number. “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
