  1. You make no sense. Calling people dolts without even looking at the facts. 28 man rosters this year if you don’t remember. Many pitchers haven’t pitched in days. You are either Rick Hahn’s burner or a legit water carrying homer. The type of fan that is accustomed to mediocrity.

  3. Bullpen game does not mean we should be trying to lose. Only 60 games this year

  6. Ricky seems like a good guy and if he ends up as a “special assistant “ to Hahn I’m okay w that. But today broke me w Ricky. Detwiler should have been in there in the 4th to face their heart of theIr order. How in the hell could you think Anderson was ready to throw 4 or 5 innings? It is sadly delusional. I like Ricky, I’d have a beer w Ricky, but he ain’t the long term answer. Neither is Ozzie. It it’s an internal hire go w Jirshcele.

  7. Anderson is someone you save for extra innings, not someone you actually rely on. Ricky punted this game, plain and simple.

  9. Give me a break. He’s the worst player on the roster and you tried to get greedy with a second inning against top of the order. They have enough guys to get 6 innings from the actual competent relievers. That’s two out of last four games that Ricky completely blew in terms of managing bullpen.

  11. How many times have we heard this already? This is just the BSOHL story for Eloy (and Tim) and I am at the same point for both of them - they can talk all they want but I won't believe it until I see it now

  15. Ricky not the manager to take team to next level

  16. The number one sign of poor leadership is an inability to deviate from a flawed plan.

  17. Pretty obvious Ricky and Cooper had a set schedule of Foster for 2, Anderson for 2. The plan was flawed before game even started.

  19. But clearly Drew Anderson was the BEST option. Okay. Sure. Not a great amount of movement on his pitches, but 97-99 will work just fine if it's well located.

  21. Ricky is showing no urgency, it’s just insane. At least it’s nice to see people blasting him today.

  22. Yes, one has pitched very well this year. The other has no business being in the majors. If Detwiler got roughed up, we blame him. When it’s a guy that shouldn’t be out there, that is on the manager. It’s the same freaking thing with Gio facing a lineup for the 3rd time.

  23. and drew Anderson is on the team and needs to pitch. You understand the same relievers can't throw everyday right? Guys are getting hurt and all you dolts want the manager to use the same guys everyday. So much ignorance.

  24. We love to watch Ray Ray run out of game threads if this is going to be the canned response of defending the manager when everyone called the big inning before it even happened. I know I did. Have you ever watched Anderson pitch in the spring, at least? You're telling me they had NO OTHER CHOICE BUT to throw Anderson out there for a second inning of work? Against their 4 best hitters? C'mon. You're better than that, man.

  25. Why are we letting worst player on the roster let this game get out of hand? Ricky is simply a terrible manager.

  27. This. Moncada himself said he does not like leading off. That's one of my biggest gripes with Renteria. Obviously guys will do what's best for the team, but listen to your guys.

  31. I would love to see the expect run totals done on a study like this. If the guy can get a bunt down, it is a near 100% chance of a hit, putting 1st and 2nd with no outs and the AL defending RBI leader coming to the plate, and the rest of the middle of the order to follow. That has to be worth more than a whatever percentage chance of a home run when it comes to run expectations in an inning.

  33. I forgot why i stopped reading game threads often. These are just a train wreck. The negativity and the complete nonsense is just mind boggling. People b****ing about the 2nd reliever put into a bullpen game during a stretch of 16 in 16 or whatever it is. Enjoy your weekend. Go sox.

  34. This is ridiculous baseball. We cannot play like this. These guys are unprepared to play today. No plate discipline......Grandal took a 3-1 pitch right down the middle and then swung at a pitch a foot off the plate

  36. Ozzie hasn’t been on since those comments. Maybe it is coincidence and he had the days off planned, or many he got a double secret suspension. I do think Scotty Pods from the home office is a waste of time. i think Ozzie is probably a pretty good guy, but his Swisher comments show why he is not in any dugout. You give him a platform to say dumb things, he will say dumb things, and it today’s cancel culture, he wouldn’t last 2 months in a dugout. He”s back.

  37. https://theathletic.com/1980278/2020/08/07/eloy-jimenezs-latest-defensive-gaffe-doesnt-mean-he-will-no-longer-play-left/?source=weeklyemail “I saw a route that took him to the line,” said manager Rick Renteria, who defended Jiménez’s effort level. “The ball started fading toward the line more and dying, actually fading in toward the infield. It looked like he was chasing it a lot. His momentum continued to carry him unfortunately into the stands. That’s a big man to try to get up. Was it a tough play for him? Yes. Could it have been made? Should it have been made? It’s possible. But he did everything he could to kind of corral it.” In 133 games in the majors, Jiménez has had numerous misplays in left field, three of which have resulted in injuries. But Thursday’s gaffe was probably the worst of them all — at least in terms of impact and its potential to make the rounds on Twitter and TV highlights. “The last thing I’m going to say or allege is he didn’t give a good effort to go after and retrieve it,” Renteria said. “I don’t think he’s a young man who dogs it. I’m sure he was embarrassed that the ball wasn’t able to be caught.” ... The White Sox have a surplus of slow-footed sluggers — good ones, too. Among them, Jiménez’s above-average foot speed (no, really!), outfield experience, work ethic and appetite to improve his fitness levelwhen called upon stand out. He simply is a much more realistic option to develop into a suitable left fielder than Vaughn, Zack Collins or Yermin Mercedes, who are all multiple grades slower. Hoping Adam Engel hits enough to be a full-time player in a corner outfield spot isn’t realistic, either. The glut of outfield prospects who once flanked Jiménez in the minors — Micker Adolfo, Blake Rutherford, Luis González — have yet to conquer Double A and were denied the chance this season by the pandemic, which also contributed to Luis Basabe being designated for assignment. As it stands, pushing Jiménez out of left would force a viable above-average hitter out of the lineup — blocking prospects such as Collins, Vaughn and Mercedes for years to come — while inserting a decidedly below-average one in his place.

  41. Is there anywhere to find how often a team is behind in the count? Checked Fangraphs and couldn't find it. It feels like this team is behind in the count 1-2 on every at-bat. To be first in .avg is incredible.

  42. I wouldn't say it's near 100% (even with the shift, as the bunt still has to be good enough for the pitcher to miss it), but I think you're severely discounting the probability of failed bunts.

  43. de Grom, Sonny Gray (anyone could have acquired), Lance Lynn (avail to all), Trevor Bauer (avail to all)...just have to be smart, like Reds’ and Rangers’ GM’s. That said, Mike Minor hasn’t been able to repeat 2019 success. Or hire someone from Braves, Dodgers, Indians or Brewers‘ front offices , they always maximize pitching talent. Padres, another team that has amassed huge pitching depth...Rays, etc. Can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
