  1. Nah, Jack is one of the post posters on this site IMO. Makes good posts backed up with facts and when he is wrong he openly admits it. Maybe a bit on the pessimistic side, but he's on my top list of posters.

  2. You're right, we know he's cheap. This is why we were willing to put up with this rebuild, knowing that we couldn't fill out our roster with big time FA signings and needed to develop and obtain young talent. We were told by the GM, guaranteed, in fact, that the money will be there during our competitive window. We were told that a young, talented roster would be buffeted by strong, veteran FA signings to bring at least one, and hopefully more, championships to Chicago. That language hadn't been used previously under JR's reign. We know the man is cheap, but his organization told us that he's going to be willing to go all in. He lied to us. Yes, the team will be good regardless. It would be a lot better if Jerry did what he said he was going to do. This roster with a Baeur? This roster with a Springer in RF? This roster with Cruz at DH? ENORMOUS upgrades made by any owner who wanted to push all his chips in. We can't even get freaking Wainright because of money? Seriously? I've been a fan for a long time. I can take "cheap". I've accepted cheap. I don't accept straight up lying.

  5. Their projected DH has no experience above A ball and their #4 and #5 starters have no track record of success at the MLB level. Counting on those guys to be key contributors right away is a terrible plan. Just stop.

  6. It is just so disappointing that this team is really on the cusp of being among the best in baseball, and just a couple of low and mid level contracts would get them there, and they can't pull the trigger. Its demoralizing.

  8. Sox had a chance to absolutely stack their roster this offseason. If you are a Twins fan, you should breathe a sigh of relief the Sox didn’t get Springer or Bauer.

  12. I think they are trying to be more than what they are. I think they like the attention. Being an insider isn't all it is made out to be anyway. Many years ago, I worked with a guy who did some business with one of JR's sons. He told me one day the Sox were trying to acquire Tim Hudson from Oakland. I was so excited. So I posted it on this board. Maybe an hour later, Hudson gets traded to Atlanta, and I get slammed.

  13. One can enjoy the team while still being upset at their refusal to go from a “very damn good” baseball team to a great one, especially when presented with countless opportunities to do so. Why is this so hard to comprehend?

  14. This HOFHurt35 guy is Jerry's PR Agent? Off to the ignore list you go, weirdo.

  15. No, but Jerry is doing exactly what David Samson said he'd do. Jerry doesn't want a winner. He wants a second place team, and that's exactly what he has built. Every year there are guys that overperform and guys that underperform. The Sox cannot afford any underperformance whatsoever and expect to make the playoffs as anything more than the second wild card, if that. They need everything to go right to win the division, and these are exactly the types of teams Jerry put together from 2000-2012.

  19. This is such a played out, lazy, effortless position to take. Dave Portnoy didn’t sell around 40% of his company to Penn for over 400 million “off of sexist and racist banter.”

  21. Only on a short-term / High AAV. Sox could, in theory, hypothetically, potentially offer a longer term (extended spread). Hypothetically, of course because Bob said they're broke...so.

  22. I don’t buy the Sox lost a lot of money at all. Where are these losses coming from? Even a third of their TV deals would cover the bulk of their prorated payroll expenses. The stadium is more or less free without any attendance. Yes, they paid some front office workers and minor leaguers for a portion of the year, but I can’t imagine the losses were that massive. Forbes estimates their total non player expenses in 2019 was roughly $100M and a ton of those would have to be park related. Maybe I’m missing something though, but I’d wager the actual loss to be minimal. The problem is the Sox lost any operating profit they typically pocket and Jerry must not like that.

  23. They have allowed young players to play and develop; some have developed, some have not. Those that have not should not be counted on to contribute to a championship. They need further development in the minors. The catch-22 problem with Kopech is that the better he is, the more likely he is shut down in late summer. Then what? If he experiences issues, he gets shut down. Then what? Combine that with a TOR regression or injury. Then what? If Grandal has a problem and misses games, then what? If Abreu has a problem and misses games, then what? Kopech should be treated as an added luxury, not a dependent. Have you counted the then whats? Do you want more?

  26. “Doesn't make it compelling or interesting conversation.” It’s a conversation that needs to be had. Jerry shouldn’t be able to get away with being this cheap any longer. They promised that the money would be spent. Well here we are and it’s clear that it’s not going to be. Obviously the pandemic plays a role in this, but it’s still extremely disappointing.

  29. This isn't a shit product and this is a stupid fucking thing to say. It isn't perfect but this team is still projected to win a lot of games next season based on the team they have right now, with no other moves being made. this entire thread fucking sucks

  31. I am starting to get excited about the upcoming season.I have been noticing that a lot of people wearing Sox hats , sweatshirts and coats ....and Spring Training has not even started. . I have the beautiful WS license plates on my black Benz. I am proud of the White Sox and thank Jerry Reinsdorf for the team we have. It is a great time to be a White Sox fan.

  38. I think the following are all quite likely: - Sox didn’t save as much during the rebuild as you think due to awful attendance and sponsorships - Sox lost a lot of money in 2020 - Jerry doesn’t think they will have fans this year - He knows there will be a strike in 2021

  39. If you don't let the young players play and develop, then you've failed on this rebuild. I've said this numerous times, If Cease and/or Kopech don't develop into stud TOR guys, then we are truly fucked. I'm holding on to hope that both those guys will contribute big at some point this season.

  40. i honestly don't feel the approach the sox have taken this offseason is entirely unreasonable. they've spent more money than most, addressed some needs and generally been active. right now i feel there are so many unknowns both financially (what is this season going to look like) and from a personnel perspective (e.g. what do we really have in guys like kopech, cease, madrigal, etc. and what does our farm really look like once these guys hopefully have a more regular minor league season). from that perspective, i don't think some degree of caution is unwarranted. that all said, jerry deserves a ton of criticism. his lack of desire to "go for it" and be bold financially has always been there, but it's frustrating to see after all these years of cutting payroll and promising tomorrow. even worse, at a minimum he's generally stayed out of on-field considerations, but hiring tlr marks a change and not a good one. i can take a cheap owner. most teams have them. i can't take a cheap owner who knows little about baseball and wants to meddle in the on-field product.

  41. At best TBH Lynn/Eaton/Hendriks is not enough for a club trying to win the WS

  42. I think even the people complaining the most think this is a playoff team. They are just annoyed that we aren't taking the next step and spending more to become a legit World Series contender. But remember that we still have the trade deadline. At that point, we will know more about what we have in Cease and Kopech. If we need to make a move at that point to give us another top of the rotation arm, we can do it at the deadline.

  43. Well everyone believes what they want to believe, not here to convince people I am just like everyone else. In my older age I have become more optimistic and through this pandemic I learned to enjoy little things more. That stated, Hendricks is an upgrade and we got the best one in the bunch. Eaton is an upgrade I mean anyone could have been an upgrade but he is an upgrade , lynn as you mentioned is a major upgrade and usually the Sox make offers during spring training to roster pitchers. I can’t imagine the Sox not checking in with the agent around trade time on what his asking price might be and getting prepared for that. The key is not these additions which I think were nice additions, but it’s the progress of our younger players and the progress of guys like kopech , crochet , Lopez. It’s a new coaching staff and the knowledge they have a team that can win. I completely agree with the person who said the depth is still suspect, but we do have a back up waiting if Abreu goes down for two weeks, when anyone goes down clubs need to tread water until that player comes back. Do we have a enough...probably not but there is always room to get more later. The Sox will look for depth players now, backups or compete players. I am still bullish on a really great season.

  44. The team also isn't built to withstand injuries on the position player side, either. What exactly is the plan if 2 of Eloy, Robert, TA, Moncada, Abreu, or Grandal are on the IL at once? They fall back to something very close to replacement level in all of those positions if there's some bad luck with injuries.
