  2. They're obviously busting his balls, but I highly doubt Madrigal having a ton of confidence in himself rubs vets the wrong way. He's not showing anyone up with that comment and they all have a ton of confidence (hell, Eloy just said he thinks he's going to win MVP soon). Madrigal rubs you the wrong way, that's all.

  3. LOL. I guarantee if they didn't like him they wouldn't have made those shirts. Dude's are having fun with it, you're 100 percent taking this the wrong way.

  4. You’ve undoubtedly had some awful posts on this site. I mean, some real memorable pieces of shit....but this one belongs in some sort of “Hall of Garbage” It’s has to be so exhausting going through life that angry, that angry, that hostile.....and you’re doing it over something that is a CHOICE OF ENTERTAINMENT. It’s not like we’re talking about the choices of our government or religion.....the pure venom spewed by you post after post and post.....making the effort to not only feel that way over something you’re supposed to enjoy, but to come to a message board to make sure everyone else knows you how feel...it’s quite something.

  5. Almost as bad as the hate this one poster gives the reigning AL MVP.

  6. The comment was obviously sarcastically made in the context of some obscene hazing ritual... but go ahead and keep randomly insulting people around here. 👍

  9. It's so strange that Coop was anti curve ball. Cease, Giolito and ReyLo all has good looking curves early on. Having them abandon it is just strange. I've posted this many times, but in case anybody wants some curve ball porn... There's more video of his curveballs in the link below. Hopefully we see more of this. https://www.soxmachine.com/2020/07/17/this-is-what-dylan-ceases-curveball-is-supposed-to-do/

  11. Gotta love the insufferable crowd taking this thread over with their doom and gloom. Confident the ownership will blow the competitive window, hoping for injuries to players. What the hell is wrong with some of you?

  12. I'm not yet there in my thinking. However: Think back to how this team wiltered down the stretch last season. Think about how this team got bounced out of the playoffs. Did you, or really ANYONE here think: "Boy, that Alex Colome really fucked up this entire team, and shat his pants. If ONLY we could replace him, we'd be good?" Or, did you, and really, most of us think last season, at the TDL, and down the stretch, and in the playoffs: "For FUCK'S SAKE, we need some M0THERFUCKING STARTING PITCHING!!!!!" So what did those geniuses do? They hired a geezing geezer alkie as manager, fired Mr. "Stay Tall. Throw Cutters. No Curveballs," and bought the most expensive RP they could find. While Hendriks is great, and worth every penny, I don't feel like that was this team's most pressing need. I never felt like the bullpen, or Colome was the reason for this team falling short. In sum, RH/KW/JR's choices this offseason felt like a moron who goes out and buys an Xbox and some weed the same day he gets laid off from his job, instead of taking a more mature approach to his life. The other MAJOR thing that strikes me as moronic was the utter lack of attempts to extend your Ace BEFORE other SPs set the market, as well as trading 6 years of Dunning for 1 year of Lynn. There are other apparently less-than-ideal choices that they made, but I see them as less damning than those two. Now again, I don't yet know if the imbeciles running this thing will have completely shat their pants on this competitive window or not. But I'll agree with you that they haven't made all of the optimal choices, either for 2021, or going forward.

  13. Don't think that's entirely true. ST can make the difference in specific positional competition such as BUC & #4 & #5 SP this year; including Lopez. Same for AV at DH. If he's incredibly good or horribly bad could easily decide his immediate future. If he's somewhere in the middle, who knows.

  18. Ya, I have some issues with other parts of the team but imo we have the best bullpen in baseball. Just ridiculous.

  19. Dude. It sounds like you were the A hole and your team didn't like you. That doesn't necessarily equate to Madrigal. To me it seems like the team giving him some good natured shit after he said something stupid. You know, like friends do.

  20. I'll stop posting because honestly I just don't think enough people here played team sports enough or at a high enough level to get it. There is totally an element of "STFU and be humble" for young cocky players at any level above high school. Including my summer league travel teams and even my shitty DIII squads.

  21. Back in the 60's the late 60's the White Sox had a short pudgy catcher named Smoky Burgess. (to digress, I recall Jack Brickhouse announcing him and Floyd Robinson). Anyway., by that time in his career (late 30's) Burgess was used by the White Sox almost exclusively as a pinch hitter (seldom as a catcher and no DH way back then). His role became so clearly defined that he always stayed in the pen to warm up pitchers unless and until he got called up in the late innings to pinch hit. Long story short, Smoky was known as one of the most clutch hitters in baseball. I I could see Mercedes in the role. a DH and Mr clutch pinch hitter. He was pretty clutch today when he came up with the bases loaded, nearly hit a grand slam, and racked up a three quick rbi. Collins and Lucroy can hit but they don't have the same pazzazz and presence that Mercedes does at the plate. Clutch hitting is a real thing and an important quality, at least from my perspective.

  22. I like it but he hit neck and neck with Robert in AA/AAA when they were there at the same time and with a much better walk rate and people call what Robert did in 2019 across 3 levels phenomenal. Now of course Robert had great fielding and base running too and was younger, but we are just talking about hitting. Go check I'm not exaggerating . Batting averages, OBP, OPS both killed Birmingham and Charlotte. I understand if you have doubted in the past if you have legit concerns about his fielding but as far as hitting goes the only hurdle he hasn't conquered is MLB and late 2019 and all of 2020 the Sox never gave him a shot.

  23. I understand you are pointing out Ceases curve ball being good, but c’mon let’s be honest...he was bad because he couldn’t get his fastball over and that’s not Coopers fault.

  24. Bud...where have you ever seen anything about Yermin's defense in a positive way? He averaged 20 passed balls a year in the minors and I outlined his minors in the last post. Collins...has had accolades throughout college including the Johnny Bench award,...was top ten draft pick, A league all-star, AA league all-star...lead all minors with walks at AA...put up a .951 OPS at AAA...and had twenty really bad at bats in the majors before ending the season with 20 great at bats. Honestly the Collins hate around here is second only to the JR hate. Its fine to say you like Yermin...I like him too...but there is nothing I said untrue.

  25. Stop it. Yermin has done enough to deserve a shot. There is easily enough room while Vaughn stays down to accumulate time for the extra year. Quit hating on Yermin.

  27. TLR is RIGHT NOW a HOF-caliber manager in the same way that Dick Butkus is RIGHT NOW a HOF-caliber MLB. Its merely more deleterious that a wealthy and famous "man" couldnt even have the ability to use his flip-phone to call a cab. Oh, and that instead of taking responsibility for his actions like a MAN, he pulled the "Im a HOF baseball person" bit. Honestly, TLR's kinda a whiny old b****.

  28. Facts man. We are in 2021 and there should be no reason to not even do a Sox website stream. I get that people typically don't watch ST. But things are different now because we are all excited about the team and the pandemic took away baseball.

  29. Sox media outlets ( &MLB) has totally miscalculated Sox fan interest. MVP 100 has some NY schmuck on at 3pm. More listeners for him than Sox? Really? NBC Chi has alpine skiing profile and IL St vs N IA football. Huh? No wonder Sox fans drink the most! ...with all due respect to IL St & N IA fans!

  31. Nice to see Vaughn in the lineup again. Giving him lots of AB's is a good sign of him earning his way onto the 26 man roster. 1B, too.

  35. this is such a weird take. If they didn't like Madrigal, they wouldn't give him the time of day; they certainly wouldn't have shirts made in fun to poke fun at his confidence. I'm shocked you're saying that you think high tier athletes are turned off by confidence; go sit in any high level Division 1 Clubhouse and every single player thinks they're the shit. It gets worse the higher the level you go; that's the attitude you need to succeed. You implied the guys hate him and that's why they're doing that. That's nonsense. If they didn't like him they wouldn't give him the time of day, and they certainly wouldn't go out of their way to have fun with him at his expense. I think it says they like Nick if anything. I wouldn't spend time poking fun at a teammate I hated; only the ones I liked.

  37. He was a bad signing because when you say you are going to spend money, you almost have to, and the Bulls usually lose the musical chairs game with the other teams that have room for max contracts, and all that usually gets you is Boozer or Eddie Robinson or Ron Mercer. 2 of them who JR paid to go home.

  40. I see no reason to bring in Yoenis. I'd be fine if it was a minor league deal, but if they have a few extra mill to spend, they should have brought in another SP instead.

  41. Are we referring to Kopech? Still not a good reason. Dude is at the absolute maximum throwing 100 innings this year. I personally would like to have the option of him making starts for the Sox in August/September/October. Therefore....send him to alternate site when ST ends. Kid glove him in on short starts in AAA once that season starts until he works up to 4-5 innings, and bring him to the MLB rotation in late June / early July. Then we get unimpeded Kopech in the rotation for the 2nd half of the season, and we get a year of control back, and we're not jerking around our highest upside SP by throwing him in the MLB pen.

  42. Planning and discussions for large scale openings like schools or for what we are discussing are planned well before an opening. COVID cases could drop and stay at zero, and it would still take substantial time for all the relevant operations (stadium personnel, CPD, IDOT, CTA, food / beverage / merchandise) to get organized, have personnel trained, uniformed and available, have items delivered and staged, etc. It’s a lot more involved than what people are discussing here. The City and Sports teams would have substantial discussions in terms of allowable operations, and it wouldn’t be until full agreement before teams can begin ramping up planning for opening up stadium operations. It’s why the August 1 date both mentioned on the Score last month, and the usher letter noted above is the most realistic expectation fans should have. Not saying it takes five months to get things ramped up, but it’s not going to be seemingly light switch flip for other reopening pronouncements for small independent bars and restaurants which require a shorter lead time.

  43. I wish we had one of those word cloud things for this forum. “If,” “could,” “should” and “potential” would be size 8,000 font. Great organizations recognize potential, but don’t rely on it. (Hi, Dodgers.) For a team with World Series aspirations, the criticism of and frustration with the FO is 100% warranted. That said, even though I struggle to see things through the same lens, I truly do appreciate the more optimistic posts on here. While my pessimism/realism often gets the best of me, the optimism helps center me when I teeter a little too far on the negative end of the spectrum. In conclusion, holy sh*t. We have Luis Robert on our team. OUR team.
