  1. Lol at the posters who said he would be a sub 700 OPS ceiling player unable to accept the fact that he can improve with more experience. Now that hes well over 700 OPS and has made great contributions with his contact thanks to adjustments. Those same posters are now calling his current defense his ceiling. These posters will ignore the fact that Anderson has gone from worst defender in the league to above average. They also forget how Moncada has improved on his defense over time. Madrigal is not capable of that though according to them. I wonder what they will cling on to next when he becomes an above average defender?

  2. You're an insufferable downer. Holy shit.

  3. There's valid criticism, and then there's blind criticism. He hit two absolute rockets today. They just happened to get caught. That's baseball. He's a rookie and he's going to have ups and downs. Is this your first time watching baseball, or what?

  4. He’s here to stay until a real mlb player is available. He also hasn’t carried the Sox lmfao yesterday was his first day hitting for power in a month.

  5. I love the fan yelling "stop fucking bunting" and you know it was at La Russa.

  6. It’s really time for Giolito to get things going. He’s currently sporting a 3.99 FIP on the season and his xwOBA would put him in the 56th percentile, which is obviously down significantly vs. the prior two seasons. He simply isn’t getting as many K’s & whiffs as he normally does. As I’ve mentioned previously, I think Lucas has been battling some minor release point issues that have impacted his command. Perhaps coinciding with that is a huge drop-off in the productivity of his slider. His whiff rate on the pitch is down 17 points and the xSLG is up 100 points. He’s definitely hung a bit too many center cut this year and that’s resulted in some serious hard contact. However, it’s not just meatballs that are the problem. Last year he threw nearly 40% of his sliders in the three quadrants outside the zone that are down & away from the batter, whereas this year he’s only sitting at 20%. That’s a massive difference in location and I think again it ties back to general command issues he’s been battling. The 4 seamer is a similar story with his whiff rate down nearly 10 points vs. prior year. The velocity & movement aren’t vastly different than last year and I think it’s once again a command / location issue. Looking at the heat maps, nearly 26% of Lucas’ 4 seamers were in the three quadrants on the right side (batter’s view) of the plate center & up. This year he’s only at 19% in this area with a lot more pitches coming in on the left half of the plate and nearly 6% more coming in below the zone. I’m assuming he’s just missing his spots, but those aren’t helping his whiff rate and are leading to more, harder hit contact (barrels up substantially vs. PY). Again, I think some of this may be mechanical / release point related and hopefully he can figure that out soon. Despite pitching a little better in recent starts, it doesn’t look like much has changed in that regard since opening day unfortunately.

  7. My first game. Hurt my head thinking about this. The last time I went to a Sox game: - Ross Detwiler was pitcher - Luis Robert wasn’t yet on the team - Nick Madrigal wasn’t yet in the team - Andrew Vaughn wasn’t yet on the team - Adam Engel had just started to destroy LHP but most still disliked him - Jose Abreu wasn’t an MVP winner - Jimenez had just hit that 600 ft homer some times before - Luis Robert and Jimenez had not yet been lost for year 🥺 - Yermin Mercedes had a 1.000 OPS in Charlotte but most of us shrugged it off - AJ Reed was playing baseball for us... - Garret Crochet was in college but ... TA was leading the way for his batting title, Moncada was having a star season, and Abreu was leading league in RBIs, so some stuff will be familiar. Please TLR, let me see some of the guys I want today

  8. Because it is incredibly stupid to criticize the dude that has carried the team for the first 6 weeks with no replacement on the roster. With Lamb hitting well, you can platoon him with Yermin and Vaughn from time to time, but Yermin is here to stay for a while.

  12. Obviously we have a great record and great run differential so none of this is shocking but fun to look at fangraphs team leaderboards where Sox are: 1st in hitting fWAR 1st in pitching fWar (bullpen top 5 btw) 6 in fielding This year has been so crazy but even in places where it felt like Sox were struggling (bullpen, may offense) other teams are struggling so so much more. For example, Colorado scored like 10 total runs its last 7 games

  13. Welcome to Soxtalk troll! Mercedes is here to stay and is still one of the top players statistically in the AL. I think it’s time for your bedtime.
    3 points
  14. Stop spouting bullshit. He's hitting .233 in May, so it's statistically impossible for him to be "in the 100s now" if he hit .300 in April.(His average would still be in the 265-270 range) I'm beginning to believe you're a fucking idiot.
    3 points
  15. It’s fair to say Mercedes has had a huge drop off in May (OPS .666 through yesterday). It’s clear pitchers have made successful adjustments, but that doesn’t mean Yermin can’t adjust back as he did after working with Menechino during the series in KC. It’s as premature to write him off today as it was when posters were calling to trade Eloy to make room for Mercedes at DH in the “conundrum” thread after a few weeks. Baseball has a way of sorting itself one way or another. I’m hopeful Mercedes plays well and stays on the squad for years. If he does not, I’m grateful he carried the Sox offense in April, before other bats began to emerge in May.

  16. It's like you are actively rooting for Yermin to fail, lol. I also have my doubts about Yermin long term but I'm rooting for him to prove me wrong, I want him to succeed...did he kick your dog or what?

  17. I think a Vaughn Eloy dh lf platoon will be necessary. Dude isn’t adjusting well and is showing why he’s a career minor league player. He’s basically a more likable Edwin 2.0

  23. Don’t forget the 2 runs he saved on defense in a 3-1 game. Thanks for the flattery in declaring me your buddy. Let’s celebrate by meeting up for a drink this season at LaRussa’s Lounge.

  24. Absolutely agree. Why in the world would we abandon on a player that is a big reason we’re in first? Hes played 6 weeks in the majors, the playoffs aren’t starting tomorrow. You keep him in the lineup, end of story...

  25. Just stop. You do this any day that he doesn't get a hit. It isn't about Yermin. It's never been about Yermin. This post shows everyone you aren't rational about him. A lack of power? A five second look at his stats and advanced stats tell you that. And we all know why.

  26. Are people already forgetting when he was hitting over .400 for a month when Abreu, Moncada, and Vaughn were ice cold?

  27. He has an irrational hate for Yermin. Logic has no place here.

  28. Nice solid game. Never felt like Sox would lose, and sure enough that seventh when TA got on it just seemed like it was automatic. Felt like 05 in that way honestly. Had fun at the park! Was cold in the shadows and the vendors were a mess but everyone was having fun (esp the bleachers)

  29. Lucas has pitched well his last three starts with Collins behind the plate. I hope they continue to catch Collins with Rodon and Lucas. The post game interview of Billy Hamilton brought a smile to my face. Such a pleasure to catch most of the radio broadcast today, have missed the past two weeks due to a trip out of town. Hope they keep the line moving in Cleveland, and @WhiteSoxFan1993 kicks my ass in terms of eclipsing a six game thread winning streak this week!!!

  30. What is nice to see is two low-scoring, close wins. The good teams win these games and show they are a tad better than the opposition. The offense just isn't going to be there some days, and when the team win these games, it sets them apart from the lesser clubs.

  31. Yerminator has been missing more cookies over the last month or so than anyone. Fouled back 2 pitches he should have killed in the same AB, then later swung through a hanging slider from Tate that also should have been killed. He's definitely in a slump, but I am not worried because of his hitting skills. His 2-strike approach is the reason he's still above .300, and probably the reason he's still above .280 or so. It has gotten him a lot of singles and a few 2Bs. Right the ship, Yerminator. Maybe it is time to move him in the order. IMO: TA, Yerminator, Moncada, Abreu, Vaughn should be the top 5 with Madrigal 9 again. That just leaves the 6-7-8 to fill up but it's 6 guys who can hit in a row. I really think Yermin is meant for that 2 slot. And maybe taking some pressure off of him and asking him to do a job with the bat would get him seeing the ball a bit better. He's really only struggling on pitches he should crush, so change it up on him IMO.

  32. I know wins are a meaningless stat that Gio probably cares less about, but I'm glad to see him get a win. Maybe it's just a bit of old school nostalgia.

  33. TLR hasn't been charged with a DUI in over 15 months now. What more could anyone ask for? Let's check his vehicle and see if it looks like it has been in a collision recently. Assuming his car doesn't have any dents in it, I think at this point we may all only conclude that TLR is as good of a driver on the road as anyone else, and is as safe of a driver on the road as anyone else, and his record over the last 15+ months proves it. So now let's forget about the past and give him all the credit he deserves for being a safe driver. He's earned it, and these last 15 months should put him above criticism.

  39. I feel like I am taking crazy pills. People really want to jettison Lamb? If anything he has made a strong case for more playing time. The Sox need more production agains right handers, not less.
    2 points
  40. It may shock a few of you that Lamb has a .362 OBP , .487 SLG , .849 OPS , .138 OPS+ , .141 wRC+ .256 ISO ,14.9 BB% .4 fWAR on the season. In the last 28 days which includes 6 games started and appearances in 2 other games .286 BA, .348 OBP , .762 SLG ,1.110 OPS Early in the season when he wasn't hitting he was taking walks. Now that he is hitting he has only 1 walk in those 8 games he's been in. He isn't going anywhere with the way the Sox struggle against RHP . In fact you may see more of him in the OF even with the return of Engel. Mendick is the odd man out and that's probably as it should be. Leury will sit more. Eaton may also sit more until he is fully healthy.
