  1. Quick question, other than just to be a contrarian, why do you have such a hard time with Abreu dipping, but no problem with Tony driving around hammered?

  3. Some people here take themselves way too seriously. We're talking about baseball to kill time; sit back, relax, and strap it down. This was taken from your About Me. This is text book on why the crazies can't stop talking about being woke and cancel culture. Preach one thing, then do the opposite. Message Board gold.

  4. 12 year anniversary of Buehrle's perfect game. Sox will be playing in the stadium that Buehrle hit his 1 career home run. Gio should honor Mark by pitching a perfect game and hitting a HR in a 1-0 win. Anything less than this performance will be shameful.

  5. Abreu still dips. It is incredibly unsightly and sets a poor example. Tony doesn't drive around hammered anymore as far as I can tell. It's a dispicable thing Tony did. However, it's over and done with, and he is now leading this team like King Leonidas lead the Spartans during the Battle of Thermopylae.

  6. Alright boys, the Sox have a huge series in Milwaukee this weekend as it could be a preview of this year’s World Series. Both teams are starting their top three arms and all these guys are currently ranked in the top 21 in terms of fWAR. These six guys will make up the top two rotations come October and our offense is really going to be put to the test these next handful of days. Today’s matchup is arguably each team’s #3 based on results with Lucas Giolito (8-6, 3.66 xFIP, 2.3 fWAR) facing Freddy Peralta (7-3, 3.70 xFIP, 2.4 fWAR), but that’s understating just how talented these two dudes are. Peralta enters today with the 6th highest K/9 amongst starters at 12.40, which has helped him put up a 95th percentile xwOBA. Freddy doesn’t have overwhelming stuff velocity wise, but his 4 seamer has gotten a tremendous 31% whiff rate this year due to a mix of plus spin & deception. However, his real weapon is a slider he introduced this year that he’s thrown 27% of the time with a 45% whiff rate. This pitch in particular is going to give our right-handed bats real problems today. Beyond those two pitches, he also throws a curveball & changeup that are primarily used against lefties. Both are effective pitches with ~30% whiff rates and it’s remarkable how Freddy has been able to grow from a two pitch pitcher who relied heavily on his fastball into a legit starting pitcher with a diverse arsenal. As the appetizer of the series, he will not be fun. While Peralta has made significant strides this year, Lucas has definitely underwhelmed to some extent. His core numbers are mostly down, with a decreasing K rate (down 1.0 to 1.5 per 9) and rising HR rate (up 0.3 to 0.5 per 9) being the core of his problems. From a fastball perspective, his velocity has been very similar to the past two years, sitting right around 94 MPH on average. And despite Balta’s spidertack theory, the spin rate on his 4 seamer hasn’t dropped that significantly (down ~2% in his last start) and his carry remains very strong. To me, I think the problem is primarily location and the fact that people are starting to catch onto his change-up heavy repertoire a bit. He’s generating less whiffs on all three of his main pitches, but only the 4 seamer is seeing a significant up-tick in damage vs. prior year, with most of it coming against righties. Lucas needs to more consistently hit his spots above the zone with the fastball or find a way to wipe out guys more frequently with the slider down & out as both pitches are catching a bit more of the zone this year. The good news for us is that Milwaukee doesn’t have a great offense, ranking 22nd overall in terms of wRC+ at 89. For comparison, we are 2nd overall at 112 despite all our injuries. With Yelich underperforming, the offense has been carried by former White Sox catcher Omar Narvaez (126 wRC+) and mid-season addition Willy Adames (153 wRC+). This is simply not a lineup worth fearing and Giolito has held their hitters to a .565 OPS over 37 plate appearances (SSS admittedly). The Sox should have a slight edge today, but it will be a battle and finding a way to start both Goodwin & Sheets in the OF would make a ton of sense given how much better Peralta is vs. righties. Let’s fucking go!

  18. I’m not going to be opposed to the White Sox acquiring a RF, but I have yet to see a name presented who is both an upgrade and affordable enough that the Sox could get him while still having enough to trade to fill their much bigger needs at the bullpen and 2b. It doesn’t help this team to acquire Gallo if Cruz hits a 3 run home run in the 8th inning of a playoff game off Ruiz. If they can’t afford a big upgrade, there are still some benefits to Hamilton in the postseason as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. If the White Sox have a 3 run lead, an OF of Hamilton, Robert, and Engel is gonna be hard to get hits against.

  19. I just don't see the everyday RF coming at the deadline. We'd likely have to overpay vs. waiting until the off season. Once Robert comes back, a platoon of Engel/Goodwin will suffice. We need to trade assets for a 2B and 2 RP. If we go into the playoffs without addressing those 2 areas, it will be an early out in October.

  21. I don't see any reason to rush him, whatsoever. Let him get his 20 games in the minors to shake the rust off. Just adding Eloy to the lineup is going to be a huge boost, both in production and team confidence. Save the other shot in the arm for when he's truly ready.

  22. Posted this is another thread earlier today, but this what I think. Eloy -----> Burger to AAA Robert ------> Goodwin DFA or Sheets to AAA (tough call here) Bullpen trade ------> ReyLo AAA Escobar or other 2B trade ------> Mendick to AAA Yasmani ------> Zavala AAA I don't see the Sox cutting Hamilton, but he could be an IL candidate to avoid DFAing Goodwin. I'd be surprised if the Jake Lamb makes it back to the Sox, but perhaps they chose Lamb over Sheets when Jake's 20 day rehab stint is up. Will be interesting roster machinations regardless.

  23. Based on current form, Lopez could be the third best in the bullpen now, behind Kopech and Hendriks. Madrigal for Bryant, Contreras and Kimbrel (and their contracts). Get' er done Jerry/Rick.

  24. Kopech is definitely better than Burr. However…… 1) it doesn’t hurt to try and develop a few more reliable arms for the playoffs (specially when you have the biggest lead of any division and 99% chance of being in the playoffs) and 2). Those wanting Kopech in the game would be the same ones bitching at LaRussa if he got hurt for being overused (remember, he’s had 2 years of not pitching…..he can’t be on the mound every game) Tonight is just not our night and no team is going to win every game. Let’s just shake it off and come back tomorrow to get a W

  38. My post history shows how much I was against the TLR hiring. I almost became a Cubs fan because of it. I've let bygones be bygones though. TLR has done an incredible job, and I'm just enjoying the master showing off his craft at this point.

  39. I know the list is subjective but are you seeing any pattern where guys like Kopech, Jimenez, Robert, and Moncada's values shrank due to injuries, Covid problems or in the case of Kopech, as you pointed out, missing a year and being unable to build value as a SP. After all, when value is concerned being on the field probably means more than anything along with consistency of performance when on the field and when you become a free agent. In other words, sometimes it's a matter of circumstances like Alvarez got hurt but it was in 2020 and anyone who played 2020 couldn't really build much value because of the 60 game season. 2020 seemed like it could've been a breakout year for Eloy but 60 was not enough to establish that and in 2021 his season will be comparable to 2020 with perhaps worst stats coming off an injury. That's 2 of his prime value years. So really all he has is his rookie year ,a bunch of injuries, and negative defensive value while having a year less control than Alvarez while Alvarez has 2x the amount of WAR. If he does stay healthy is not what has happened so far.

  40. The OF is going to present quite a conundrum. I mean, you can't cut Billy as he's no doubt established himself as one of the leaders and favorite personalities in the clubhouse. Goodwin is a lefty with a little bit of pop and I think he, too, is having the ride of his life. I think you've got to release Goodwin if it's between these two but I really hope we don't come to regret letting him go. These upcoming decisions is where I think TLR's experience is going to really pay off. I have a very strong feeling he has his finger on the pulse of this clubhouse and knows which personalities possess the intangible "TWTW", guys you just can't cut without throwing a real wrench into the works of the clubhouse spirit and culture. Today's episode of Red Line Radio had an interview with Engel. One of the things he spoke about was how each player is responsible for holding other players accountable, day in and day out. With that type of culture in place, I think any potential moves will go beyond simple statistics.

  41. As much as I am enjoying our first real look at Sheets and Burger, I’d rather they go back to AAA for a few weeks than get rid of Goodwin. He’s no superstar, but he’s earned more time with this team.

  42. I am surprised they haven't released him. You would think Jerry, Rick & Tony wouldn't put up with this stuff, you know how triggered old folks get when a younger person does literally anything.
