  1. Psh that’s nothing, that’s what we spend on 3 relievers

  4. With Sanchez and Frazier off the board, it seems to suggest the Semien pursuits are legit (unlikely IMO) or a Kimbrel-Segura+ trade could happen (more likely). One way or the other, they must have a primary target in mind.

  5. Come on White Sox… let’s see it! Don’t you know I’m desperately in need of some moves to solidify my clearly lacking sense of confidence? My overbearing insecurity is showing through and the only thing which will provide a semblance of balance are baseball transactions related to Chicago’s best team. I’m already horribly afraid that I’ll even make it through a labor negotiation strike without losing my mind completely… Give me some hope, for fucks sake. It is plain as day that me and my feelings are more important than anything else and my entitlement is unmatched. So there!

  7. Maybe teams are looking at Frazier’s total track record and realizing his first half last year was a total fluke, whereas some GMs look at Kimbrel’s HoF track and saw 50+ innings of elite performance before wearing down from a massive innings increase? And no one is thinking we’ll get a “big” return, but rather something more valuable than $1M buyout.

  10. $17M guaranteed per Rosenthal which makes three years for Graveman look pretty reasonable.

  11. I’d have taken Frazier and his skill set from the 9 hole with good D at second.

  12. If that were the case, then you get it done and get the contract cleared now. You’re not suddenly going to get a top 50 prospect for this guy if you wait longer. The market may improve slightly, but not so much it reshapes your franchise. As CWS said, there won’t be a lot of suitors for this guy at his price level, and right now the White Sox are holding all the risk if those handful of teams start finding deals elsewhere. Holding if you had a tolerable offer and hoping for better would be a high risk, low reward move. The other option…there actually is very little activity on him and the White Sox are leaking that they have tons of interest in the hopes that they can create a market.

  15. Please no Conforto. The fans who have seen him for his entire career have little good to say about him other than he tries hard and seems like a good guy. Complaints such as: he is prone to long slumps that coincide with Mets losing streaks; he has potential but hasn't reached it; his lack of power; and that he won't be worth the money some sucker team is likely to give him. They say they can't believe they can get a pick for him as well. That doesn't seem like the key posiition player acquisition I'd want the Sox to add. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/michael-conforto-to-reject-qualifying-offer.html [ Check out the comments section]. https://risingapple.com/2021/10/10/ny-mets-michael-conforto-devils-advocate/

  16. I think I agree with CWS. I don’t think the teams rumored in on him are the ones that will let Boras make the market, and Conforto isn’t big enough to anyway. I kinda thought he’d get the Upton 2016 contract but not sure anymore. I think he definitely gets an opt-out. But I don’t see Conforto signing anytime soon because of this. I swear, man, I think the white soxiest thing is definitely signing schwarber and making cute with RF, 2B. But maybe they somehow pull Taylor? I feel like the odds of a Joc RF are rising.

  19. No I wasn’t smarter than them, I liked that deal, but I had watched approximately 0 cub games in 3 years. I would continue to suggest that “a person who watched zero cub games couldn’t figure this out so no one could” remains a poor standard for a billion dollar business and not an acceptable excuse.

  20. Brian Balta, smarter than Rick Hahn, Andrew Friedman, & Erik Neander confirmed. Glad you knew from 20 shitty innings in 2019 that the best reliever in baseball over the previous 52.1 innings was suddenly going to fall apart. I really hope they fire KW and hire you to be President of Baseball Operations because you literally outsmarted two of the best organizations in all of baseball. And given this was such an obvious mistake to you, what actions do you suggest they take from prevent this from happening again?

  21. Some fans think that is Vaughn's ceiling. Kimbrel plus Vaughn should bring back a player or two of intrerest, especially if NL adopts the DH and the Dodgers don't sign Jansen who is 34.

  22. Oh.. and Spoelstra is a fantastic coach. His in game adjustments down the stretch were right on the money. Bulls did a terrible job adjusting to what Miami was doing. Donovan definitely got outcoached in this one.

  23. No. Hahn made a mistake in acquiring him. His scouts and the system around him let him down and led him into a decision that imploded. He is deserving of insults for doubling down on that mistake, a move with a large risk and a low reward at best. He is deserving of more scorn if they don't take actions to correct how the mistake happened.

  24. I’m convinced you don’t like winning and simply want to hoard prospects. We need to payroll flexibility to address our 2B, RF, & SP needs, not to get slightly better prospects from the Padres that won’t help us win this year.

  25. Well this 'top pitching free agent' will definitely be a top priced one, and for several years at that. He misses bats, I'll give him that - but wait til he gets a load of Eloy in left and Sheets in right. He'll know then that he has to miss bats.

  26. Is it because other teams aren’t trying to balance a ground all heavy, RH heavy lineup in the same way the Sox are and different teams have different needs?

  28. There were never going to be more than 5-6 teams to begin with. Dodgers, pretty unlikely with all their options…and Jansen potentially returning. Have Treinen and Knebel already. Phillies and Blue Jays…the Rays hate to allocate that kind of money even for one season on a relief pitcher. Angels if Iglesias doesn’t resign. Padres too financially strapped, Melancon could return on a relatively cheaper deal despite his 2021 headline numbers. Finally, the Brewers are looking to trade Hader for the right return.

  32. I've actually surprised at the amount of people here and 2 of our insiders who expect a big payday for Conforto but I'm out there with just my guesses expecting less. I know plenty here think he's the perfect fit and with an expected payroll increase think Conforto is a guy to splurge on and think he'll have a strong market. I don't see it but I've been wrong before. Reminds me of the Didi Gregorius talks around here after he put up his 2 best seasons then had a down year and I didn't think he's get much of a contract and others thought I was nuts. He ended up getting a 1 yr contract for $10M had a good Covid year and Phils resigned him for 2 more years for $28M and had an abysmal yr. in 2021. I'll edit this to say I'm mistaken about what I thought about Didi's contract. I didn't think he'd get much after his very good 2020 Covid yr. He ended up getting 2/28 from the Phillies then sucked big time in 2021. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Phillies want to give up Didi instead of Segura in a trade for Kimbrel.

  35. Is that the raw hide based woodwind which is speculated to originate from Native American cultures? Guess they used to play it prior to beginning a hunt, specifically during a full moon. Most common hide used was that of a cow but they also are said to have constructed these from goat skins, rabbit skins, and even the buffalo. Some speculate that this type of flute was responsible for inspiring all modern woodwinds. Just fascinating stuff… but again, no clue what it has to do with Conforto. Is he a musician or something?

  36. I was just messing around since I see people penciling Cespedes into the lineup as soon as 2023. Seeing Marte's deal, I hope the White Sox just hang dong here and throw Conforto a similar contract to get this thing done.

  37. Deadlines are cool. Good things happen when teams have a date they need to do stuff by. Now I'm not sure we do anything by then but I bet this is only the tip of the iceberg for the rest of the league. Should be a fun next few days.

  43. You absolutely love putting words in everyone's mouths and creating fantasy scenarios in which you hold the moral high ground and were right about what did not happen. what does what he thinks about the dodgers or rays signing Rodon have to do with what this discussion is. He is a fan. It doesn't change anything. Who fucking cares what another message board thinks???

  44. Why would he argue anything, he respects those GMs. They also have the depth to deal with any sort of injury issues

  45. Apparently once the Franco contract is done, the Mets will still be paying Bobby Bonilla.
