    Ian Happ

Sent down to AAA by the Cubs and not happy about it. Still has has 5 years of control. Not sure what the offer would be

    Eloy officially got paid

This is my thinking as well. For all this money upfront we should got two possibly three free agent years.

    Eloy officially got paid

Agreed. I think we could have waited and if we wanted to lock up Eloy we could have done so for similar money. I don't understand the need to do this now unless we were getting a bunch of options on FA years which didn't happen at least according to reports.

Thanks for the information. I got it off an initial media report to the Snell extension thanks for the correction I should have looked at Snells service time to dblcheck. There is no need to be hostile it is the players and agents job to get the best deal possible noone is chastising Jimenez for taking the money just that the organization overpaid by what appears a large margin.

Actually no it's pretty much the same Snell signed 5/50 into his 7th year of control. He made the minimum prior 558K. So it's basically 8/52 Jimenez will make 6/43 + 16.5 option + 18.5 option it becomes 8/78. We paid more for a player far less accomplished. Edit; It was pointed out to me there was no option in Snells contract (media report which I got the information initially from got it wrong thanks for the correction) which makes it even worse.

Rays just signed last years cy young winner for 5 years 50 million (already two years in) plus a FA option. We overpaid.

You just said the key words if he pans out. He hasn't had a ML at bat yet. Like I said it high and almost double what players have got in the past under similar deals but if he is really good it doesn't matter but if we are giving him so much more money upfront I would have hoped to have gotten more then one FA option year. At least two.

The number is high but at the end of the day whether he signs for 30 million or 43 million doesn't matter much. What will determine whether this contract makes sense is his play.

FS: White Sox Should Be Pleased With 3rd Pick

CJ Abrams may have the highest ceiling of anyone in the draft. Draft for ceiling. Other guys we should be looking at is Malone. Espino. Ealy. Allan. Hinds.

Maybe for Eloy we have him 7 years regardless.

Hector is fake news. His report never made sense from the get go. Surprised at the people here who really believed 8/100

You are forgetting that David Wells for I can't remember his name. Kenny sold damaged goods. As for this proposed extension this would literally be the dumbest move of the offseason. There is zero incentive to do this the Sox already control his service time for 7 years. It should be for 30 million tops.

    Amazon HQ2

The local politicians were not. They are the ones enforcing bylaws and handing out permits.

All of a sudden I want to sign Kimbrel

I don't think it will happen but still it's the offseason so why not? We did something similar on a lesser scale with Soria last year it worked out well for both Soria and the Sox

    Amazon HQ2

That is nonsense. Amazon saw the hostile reaction of the local politicians and realized it wasn't worth it without a local buyin. There is so much more to that type of project then just whatever package of tax credits Cuomo and De Blasio conjured up to lure them to long island. They'll be dealing with building permits, zonings, and local bylaws for however long they are there whether it be 15, 20, or 30 years. They didn't want to go to a place where the climate was hostile to businesses.

All of a sudden I want to sign Kimbrel

I'd sign him to a big money 1 year deal with a decent player option for year two. Then if he plays well flip him later. What are his options right now? Can't be all that great. What do the top guys make around 15-16 million offer him 20 million plus a 18 million player option see if he accepts. What did Britton sign for? 3/39? Gives Kimbrel the chance to make the same amount of money in two years or hit the market again in a year if he wants win win for both clubs. By the trade deadline team with budget constraints will find his salary more manageable after 105 ish games at that point it shrinks to around 7 million.

To anyone "qutting being a Sox fan"

Noone is forcing anyone to be/remain a sox fan. The whitesox are supposed to be entertaining following a rebuild is not for everyone those that don't have the stomach for it can always come back in 2-3 years when we start to see the kids come up and play.

    Giolito's latest tweaks

Good enough stuff to be a number 2? At times he was struggling to hit 90 on the radar gun. He finished the year averaging 92, His fastball velocity is now dead average with little movement. His hype was based on his electric stuff and fastball. He isn't the same prospect from three years ago. Honestly neither is the upside people talk about him like he's still the same guy he just needs to tweak somethings and learn how to pitch better. Lets just be honest his stuff is gone people need to be honest about his ceiling now is.

Why you should not want Reinsdorf to sell the SOX

The core issue the guys we have traded for and drafted the past couple of years have not panned out on the field and/or been injured. We all know the names you guys keep going on bemoaning the loss of Machado baseball is greater then one player. This team is devoid of talent everywhere. There will be other opportunities to hand out 250 million on a top player. Kopech. Moncada. Gio. The fact none of these guys are producing for us right now despite being top 10 prospects that is the real the problem.

Why you should not want Reinsdorf to sell the SOX

That simply doesn't comport with what happened. You can disagree with the CWS internal evaluation of these players value but they put out a legit offer. They traded for Alonso. The signed Jay. They made a serious effort to get him. Them trying and failing to land Machado to me anyways lowered my opinion of the FO. 1. I don't think this roster is anywhere near to competing. 2. it exposed the desperation of the FO trading for Alonso and Jay were the moves of a desperate FO. Patience has clearly run out with the rebuild with is unfortunate I just hope Hahn and Kenny desperation doesn't lead them to make any short sighted trades.

    Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil

Phillies are betting big on Harper being able to stay in the outfield. To me that is not a smart bet to make especially in the NL but hey best of luck to them.

    Hahn on Manny Loss...

Aggressive would have been like I said in the earlier thread give Manny your best offer put a time frame on it of a week and if he doesn't accept walk away. There is nothing aggressive about what we did. Foolish is more like it. Trading for Alonso. Signing Jay weren't only dumb moves from a talent standpoint but indicated to Machado camp we were all in and weren't going anywhere and go nowhere we did as they sat on our offer for months. The other option was we could have done what the padres done and just given him whatever he wanted. That's not smart either. I don't have a problem with the offer and not going to 300 million. I think I had him 9 years at 270 as my absolute final offer and that was mainly on the basis of what Stanton got. Harper I had much lower because I think he profiles as a future JD Martinez like DH. You have to have a breaking point and noone should have a problem with that the problem was Hahn and the CWS offer were used.

Dane Dunning: No TJS just yet, rest and monitor

Shit. With all these injuries we could really use a 2nd influx of talent. It seems all our top pitching prospects have injury concerns
