  1. I could see a quick little back and forth and maybe it nudges up to 65 games or something. But really - if they're getting full prorated pay while there's no fans in attendance, they should probably take the money and run.
  2. If the owners are caving - that would make them the ones putting the game ahead of their agenda. The ones we probably could thank when we have baseball back. How you turn that in to a negative is beyond me.
  3. I don't think the contracts are still guaranteed for the 2020 season after the spring training agreement. If the owners choose to cancel the season, and that would understandable given the pandemic, I don't think players are entitled to another cent. And I thought I heard last night that Dr. Fauchi is recommending baseball end their season in Septmber. They seem more and more confident a second wave will be coming and it will likely be hitting hard in October.
  4. I haven't seen anything from the players where they are willing to budge even one inch. Out in the real world where people need their paychecks to pay their rent or mortgage, people everywhere are getting laid off, getting furloghed, reduced hours, reduced pay, sometimes both, etc. That said, I also understand the thought process that owners should largely eat this and let their be baseball. We don't know how much this hurts them since they won't open up their books. In an ideal world, they meet in the middle somewhere. Probably with the owners giving up more than the players. But neither side is willing to move. And now with COVID starting to spike in a lot of places. It makes me wonder if just shutting this down and saying let's come back in 2021 isn't the best answer? Uggh.
  5. Good tactic by the players I think. The owners will look bad if they order a 48 or 50 game schedule. Hopefully they dont do that.
  6. That's a discussion for when the CBA is up and you are re-negotiating the CBA. But for now, there's nothing to prove. Anyone who understands basic mathematics knows they are taking a massive revenue hit.
  7. I guess we can agree to disagree. Because to me - the players are expecting full pay despite massive revenue hits. I find it ridiculous for them to even suggest full prorated pay. Whatever...hopefully both sides find common ground before it's too late.
  8. Oh this reminds me that you have a dislike for business owners. We had a discussion a month or two on HF, right? But to me this is different than the real world. Because just about all of these people are filthy rich 0- both players and owners. the exceptions being the young players that havent been paid yet. I don't see why both sides can't meet in the middle. And for proposals, the owners are offering plans paying out similar dollars, but much different lengths of schedules. If the players are concerned they are risking their health, then one would think they would jump at the lower game total plans, right? Less games is less risk. But they want the opposite. How come? Oh we all know why, don't we?
  9. Have the players made any proposal yet that was at less than full prorated dollars? I see it as the players being greedy here.
  10. My fandom of the Sox, Hawks and Bears is about equal. I really can't put one over the other. So I'd go with the Bulls. I havent really paid much attention to them since the Jordan era ended.
  11. I don't see it happening either. Players are not going to leave their families to fend for themselves for months during a pandemic.
  12. We'll see how they handle it. It seems odd to me that anyone would of paid for the whole season with this pandemic looming since January. In any event - it looks like baseball has every intention of playing some kind of season. Here is an article with quotes from Manfred: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28955618/rob-manfred-says-table-regarding-mlb-return
  13. Sale brought so many good times to us Sox fans. I wish him the best in his recovery.
  14. Why cut it off so early? So if this all blows over by August 1st, why do you think they can't play from there? Even if you have a 50-70 game season, how is that not better than no baseball at all?
  15. Sorry if this was posted already. An interesting take from Boston going back to the Sale trade.
  16. I would keep him. I think they would get garbage back for him. If they keep him, between time off for Grandal, and the possibility of Grandal playing a little 1B here and there - he could easily catch 50-60 games. Plus, if the Sox trade him and Grandal gets hurt, then we're really screwed. There's nothing competent to hold down the fort.
  17. I'd suspect they will break that streak. But really, to me this is about winning the World Series. I'd rather the Sox be like the Nationals than the Twinkies.
  18. This is such a unique approach. They are locking up guys that are mostly unproven, but loaded with talent. It can pay off big, or blow up in their face. I like the chances though!
  19. Boom or bust potential for both sides. I'm good with it. Hopefully he stays at last year's level.
  20. There seems to be untapped upside to both Mazara and Puig, while they've mostly been mostly mediocre in recent years. At this point, the Sox already have Mazara, so I don't see any reason to bring Puig in.
  21. Assuming we could put him in RF, since Moncada is a far better defensive 3B. I wonder if some kind of extension could be worked out in advance of a trade? Seems unlikely with Boras being his agent. With the Cubs seemingly disrespecting him, you'd almost think the idea of coming to the south side and killing it would be appealing to Kris. I think I'd do Vaughn + Stiever/Dunning (only one of them), plus maybe Rutherford. Would the Cubs want Vaughn while they have Rizzo? Well, Rizzo is starting to sound a bit annoyed with the Cubs and they recently refused to discuss an extension with him. Also Theo could view him as a flippable asset, even if they don't have room for Vaughn. But that's a lot to give up for just 2 years...unless he re-signs. But man would our lineup be ridiculous.
  22. I'm totally fine with this projection. The Sox have such a wide swath for what could happen next year. Anywhere between 70 and 100 wins won't surprise me a whole lot.
