  1. I believe TLR credited the stats department last week with coming up with this strategy. Basically throw VV one time through the order, then throw Davis Martin. Second VV "start" in a row that they have done this, and VV has given up 1 hit, 1 walk, and 0 runs in 6 combined innings.
  2. Lowest baseball IQ team in the majors. Maybe the minors too. Whose job is it to be responsible for the team's fundamentals again?
  3. I'm definitely not someone who thinks we have to base our personal opinion on the court of law. Innocent until proven guilty is for the courts, we as people just have to look at the facts available and make the best judgment we can. That said, in this case, with the facts presented so far, I'm really not seeing enough to decide either way. Quite frankly, the car jacking thing is just really throwing me off. Is his allegation that Rick Hahn made up the drug/gambling/etc addiction thing as cover to fire him for being gay? And if that is the case, why is the lawsuit also for age AND disability discrimination too? Having all three makes it seem like he is fishing, but perhaps it is standard legal practice to just lump it all together? He does have the one executive who allegedly said he was fired for his sexuality, which is enough that I won't dismiss the allegations as fake. But unless more information comes out I think my personal judgment has to be not guilty. Not innocent, but something doesn't pass the smell test here. Hopefully more information comes out now that the case is public, because it really seems like there is a puzzle piece missing here.
  4. mlb.tv showing me an MLB network Tim Anderson web gem highlights commercial right now.....
  5. Tonight's game is honestly about as important as mid-May games get. Just a week ago, we (and Jason and Steve) were talking about how the 5 run ninth could spark the team, and we didn't even actually pull off that comeback win. The opposite can be true too. In 2016 we had a hot start and then blew a huge late lead to the Rangers. The team seemed to deflate and went into a tailspin for a couple of months, to the point that the front office eventually blew it all up and finally entered a full rebuild. We really need to bounce back with a clean, well-played win today. If TLR has even a modicum of managerial magic left in him tonight is the night to show it, he better have the team ready to play.
  6. In fact, literally every baseball player in the history of the sport has "done less" than Naylor, since he is the first player in the history of baseball to have multiple 3+ run home runs after the 8th inning and the first player in the history of baseball to have 8+ RBIs in a game where all came after the 8th inning. He could have done shirtless backflips off of the visitors dugout and it'd still be hard to argue he hadn't earned the right, and certainly throwing at him would still be as unlikely as it would be fucking stupid. I swear half of these writers write these articles to pressure managers into throwing at people so they can write outraged articles the next day about throwing at people. Or, failing that, ask the manager after the game why they didn't throw and write outraged articles about how the manager isn't sticking up for his team.
  7. 1) We b**** about all of those guys all of the time too 2) TA7 is the leader of this team, leaders get singled out when shit goes wrong 3) Most importantly, Tim has committed 9 errors, all in loses, and his errors were heavily responsible for at least three of those. WAR doesn't take context like that into account, if his bat has been worth 1 WAR then he still has essentially cost us two wins with his fielding. Seems pretty justified to discuss him in the bad defense thread.
  8. Baseball's a dumb sport for dumb people and I hate it. See you all tomorrow at 7.
  9. Turns out this is a good strategy if you can actually make contact 🤷‍♂️
  10. Holy shit, Yoan just made it all the way around the bases without a single limp or grimace (other than when he got hit) Is he finally actually totally healthy?!?!
  11. Gavin is going to be over-swinging here desperate to make up for his horrible error
  12. Seeing Dalbec come up makes me understand what other teams fans feel when Leury Legend comes to the plate with people on base.
  13. While true in this particular case, it certainly looks bad as yet another example of players getting injured too often, getting serious injuries from seemingly innocuous actions, and injuries seeming to linger much longer than originally announced.
  14. Over the last 5 games, the bullpen has given up 10 H, 6 BBs, and 0 HRs compared to 20 Ks in 17.2 IP. Most importantly, they've only given up 3 ER in that stretch. 1.52 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP.
  15. Golden Sombrero for Trout! That's rarer than winning the world series. Send home plate to Cooperstown.
  16. So, we're officially at the point now where Cease was the bigger regret for the Cubs of the Quintana trade, yeah?
  17. The fact that Cease is seemingly having a breakout year makes it a lot easier as a fan to be patient when Kopech when has control struggles or runs up the pitch count early and to be happy with the flashes of greatness we see. EDIT: Or when he hangs a juicy slider.....
  18. Can you imagine if Verlander ever pitched for us in his prime? The first inning of every fifth game would be "His fastball is only 93, TJ surgery incoming"
  19. One advantage to TLR as manager -- he has the most convincing slow walk in the majors. I mean, what ump is going to make him speed it up when they aren't sure if he can even shamble all the way to the mound without falling over? He could get away with taking breaks half way there.
  20. They're there to get fired when the team stops hitting the ball. But hey, the team has stopped hitting the ball so.....
