Yea be smart and mature.  I think he's a smart guy but youth + money sometimes doesn't mix well even for smart young men.  That said, other than potential off field trouble I love that he's playing.  Shows a real desire to work on his weaknesses.

He can already hit.  Maybe he can be the DLF (Designated left Fielder).  Work on his fielding by just playing the outfield for both teams.😂

  2. Interesting turn of events.  So much for the "mutual admiration"  that both sides had for each other.  He files for arbitration and the Sox make him a QO.

Did the Sox piss him off by trying a low-ball 2-3 year deal?  Or do they want him for no more than a year because they think Vaughn will be ready by then?

Oh boy....that time of year again. Cole is the obvious choice here but strasburg is more realistic of the two. With that said I don’t think the Sox land either of them.

I don't think so either.  Guys like that land on teams that are thisclose to being World Series contenders.  The White Sox are not one of those teams.

Unless people like us start making a big deal of it at events and phone calls there won't be negative publicity, not that they care about. Only a handful of people out in the real world care about this and what it really says about the organization.

Find Rick Hahn at Soxfest or a callin show and make this your question. This is the most blatant example of them not doing everything they can to win.

No kidding. As rabid sports fans, we make things important that the general population doesn't give a crap about.  The majority of the population is not sports fans.  You need to look no further than this year's World Series.  TV ratings were 3rd lowest ever.  Even at their best, the ratings indicate that a very small percentage of the population is watching.  Sports talk radio stations are usually in the bottom 25% of the listener rankings.

  5. Why does everyone want Washington to win?  I really don't give a crap about either team, so the default loyalty would be to your team's (White Sox)  league.  No?  Or is that being too old school?

So, if the Nats lose this game but manage to come back and win the series, it’ll be the first time EVER that the road team has won every game in the World Series.

The home team won every game in 1987, 1991, and 2001.

So much for the almighty "home field advantage" that the putz commissioner Bud Selig granted to the winner of the All Star Game.

Stone is the one that wants a three year deal while the Sox are looking for a longer term deal.  This isn't about money at all... its about contract length and a few lesser issues.   No one is being cheap here.  Stone is looking for some flexibility in order to potentially take advantage of any ownership opportunities that may (or may not) arise over the next five years.  He wants one more crack at baseball management and he's not getting any younger.  This will get done eventually.

Are we talking a front office position or on-field manager?

For whatever reason, the White Sox since their incorporation have just not been blessed with great ownership.

It would be great if for once the White Sox were owned by a biilionaire whose sole purpose in purchasing the team is to build the best team that he possibly can. Someone like a  Mark Cuban.

We, as fans, don't need someone sitting on a stool wearing a visor and making entries in his ledger to make sure that the shareowners are getting maximum return on their investment.

Very true. Also the Braves had the chance to align their rotation to give Soroka 2 starts. Instead, they gave him game 3 and Folty got the 2 starts. The rest is history!

They hung their hat on the fact that Soroka led MLB in road ERA (about 1.75).  Also Foltynewicz recovered his magic at the end of the season and pitched liked he did last year.

  10. The 2 best teams in the NL are out of the post-season without even making it past the division series.  Another in a long series of examples that the post-season is basically a crap shoot.

I bring this up only for the folks out there who expect the White Sox to make multiple WS appearances after this rebuild is complete.  What should we expect?

The highly optimistic  expectation:  yearly post-season appearances for the next few years.

The realistic expectation:  compete for a post-season appearance for the next few years.

Sorry to hear about your divorce, but nobody should be that addicted to a sports team. If you can’t walk away from something if it negatively impacts your life (a bad relationship, alcohol, gambling, etc.), you have a problem.

The “I don’t have a choice” line that I’m reading here is bullshit. Some of you need to man up and take control of your lives.

What a ridiculously over the top comment.  To compare a lifelong loyalty towards a baseball team to a drug or alcohol addiction is beyond belief. The Sox ARE a part of my life, but a small part compared to other more important things.

If you want to associate something to an addiction, how about some on this board who waste countless hours speculating on topics like proposed trades, free agent signings, and other meaningless threads.

It's too bad people don't realize following a sports team is a completely voluntary form of entertainment. The team itself has absolutely no obligation to you as a fan.

It's not that simple.  I've been a Sox fan since I moved to Chicago as a 10-year old.  After 30 years in the area, I have moved several times for business reasons.  Each time to a city that had major sports teams.  Not one time did I become a fan of the team(s) in those cities.  I have remained a fan of the Chicago teams (except the Cubs, of course).

It was easier for me to go through a divorce than it would be for me to stop being a Sox fan.  There is nothing "voluntary" about it.  It's a part of my life.

I read something about a prominent person on the autistic spectrum the other day, and it mentioned how one quirk of theirs is that they have rigid adherence to their favored ideas. I see this with Jack all the time. Nothing can talk him down from an idea once he believes it to be true.

As someone mentioned, this is a stupid topic for a thread (off-season or not).  Yet Jack has gotten 10 pages of responses in 2 days.  Who is the insane one?  Is it not us?

I wont be.  I think all of those who have these delusions that JR is going to open up the pocket books to win are going to be disappointed.  It will be a bunch of role players surrounding our existing core.

I agree.  If that is the case, can the Sox compete for a post-season spot with 1.) the returning core, 2.) the addition of Robert and Madrigal, 3.) the return of "TJ Surgery Guys", and 4.) the addition of only mediocre free agents?

Assuming it takes 92-95 wins to snag a spot, I don't think so.

Eh, Thibs and Skiles aren't that good. They both had some massive flaws that ended up doing them in.

Thibs was very good at designing defenses, but he was so insanely inept in terms of offense. He also wasn't all that well liked by his players. Big reason why he was canned from the Wolves.

Skiles was similar, but less defensively savvy and more of an ass.

The problem with the Bulls is who they replaced those two with; Vinnie Del Negro and Fred Hoiberg. Both questionable at best hires that proved to be disastrous.

And as for Ozzie (I assume that's the HOF manager you're referring to), I'd say he ran himself out of town by losing his marbles and making tons of extremely ridiculous and controversal comments. Combine that with waning on-field results, I'd say it was time to move on from Ozzie. But like the Bulls, the problem was who they replaced him with.

Overall, neither of Jerry's orgs have a good track record of making quality hires recently.

I thought it was La Russa.
