  1. Probably because we already have a couple of ~$10M/year bullpen pieces in Herrera and Colome. Sign Harris or similar and we'll be paying our bullpen more than our rotation. How cool is that? I'm actually all for Harris, Hudson, Stammen, or Cishek. Also would trade for Diaz, which I have a sneaky suspicion Hahn is working on as we speak.
  2. That doesnt get the year of control back. Dont see May 1st happening
  3. Defensive first, no bat catchers are everywhere. You can find one for about 50 cents. Worrying about Grandal getting hurt is not worth worrying about.
  4. Make up your mind. Do you want to sign generational players and build the best team in MLB or do you want to sign 1B/DH for less than $29M as you said later? Best players in the game at 1B and DH are gonna cost you a hell of alot more than $29M. We sign Smoak for $5M and you'd be the first guy to crucify Hahn (and me and everybody else would be right behind you). You wanna add Puig after saying we need to build the best team in MLB? Absolute joke, he might be about the 8th best available right fielder and probably not in the top 20 RF in the game. It's easy to have hindsight and pick apart every move, but bottom line: LOOK AT THESE UPGRADES Robert > Engel Mazara > Cordell, etc Madrigal > Yolmer Grandal > McCann McCann > Castillo Encarnacion > Alonso Keuchel > Nova Gio > Covey/Detwiller/Santana/Banuelos
  5. 2020 90+Wins? > 2019 72 Wins Robert > Engel Mazara > Cordell Madrigal > Yolmer Grandal > McCann McCann > Castillo Encarnacion > Alonso Keuchel > Nova Gio > Covey/Detwiller/Santana/Banuelos
  6. That's how good teams build their rosters. Can never have too many good players.

  8. Gardner resigned with the Yankees https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/12/sports/baseball/yankees-brett-gardner.html
  9. I mentioned Happ in another thread just a little bit ago. How can he not be preferable to David Price in a salary dump? Way less risk both salary wise and term wise.
  10. MLB Trade Rumors decided to write a story based on Heymans tweet earlier: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/latest-on-james-mccann.html Think it means anything?
  11. If we're gonna take on a bad contract, why dont we just trade for JA Happ and his bad contract?
  12. What if its Madrigal and Vaughn for Price and Betts? Who would do that deal?
  13. I think we figured out its May 23rd if I remember correctly. 41 days of service time in 2018. He needs to be on the roster for 130 days or less this year to get the year of control back.
  14. He ends it by saying the Sox would be better off signing Ryu despite their tendency to avoid aging pitchers than they would having Hahn have to try and explain to the fan base that the window isnt quite open enough to take the risk.
  15. I just dont get it. Its gonna take 4 years to get Ryu. Period. We have pages and pages of how bad Hahn sucks, sitting on his hands, not going out and getting pitching. Yet we debate whether or not it's worth it to go a fourth year on Ryu, even the guys who've been adamant about the last years of a pitchers deal being the price you pay for pitching. It's ok for us, but if Hahn absolutely doesnt want to go 4 years and doesnt sign him because that's what it takes, then do we just go back to complaining about how hes not getting any pitching?
  16. So do you go 4 years for Ryu if that's what it takes?
  17. Price has posted 6.2 fWAR in the last 3 seasons, valued at $49.8 million, while being paid $91 million. Rick Porcello, who is three years younger, just signed a 1 yr/ $10 million contract after posting the exact same 6.2 fWAR in the last 3 seasons. And you guys have really just spent 28 pages discussing whether taking on $60 million of his remaining contract might be ok? Even with Ben Nintendo attached, this whole trade proposal is completely, utterly asinine!
  18. Except one of either Collins or McCann is your starting DH, and two of Leury, Mendick, and Engel are your opening day starters at CF and 2B. So really only three bench spots are currently filled until LuBob and Madrigal are brought up.
  19. I am a free agent starter who is better than Covey and I quit playing in 1985.
  20. The current relievers 1.Colome 2.Bummer 3.Herrera 4.Fry 5. Fulmer 6.Marshall 7. Cordero 8.Ruiz * 9.Covey, assuming we sign 2 starters, he gets moved to the pen Who stays? Who goes? Who is tradeable? Who are the potential upgrades left? If we start the season with Covey and Fulmer on the 26 man roster, THAT'S when I call this offseason a bust. We CAN NOT be considered actual contenders if we intend to keep totting those two out there.
  21. "If the Sox sign Ryu and he can't pitch, it sinks the rebuild" might be the worst take I've ever heard.
