Here's our favorite foodie getting in on the action. I'm not saying I believe it, but I do think that might be what it takes.
Much more realistic than Oakland thinking they'd get AV for Montas

Berrios is a pretty good comp for Montas and he went for a lot more than that fwiw
Sonny Gray is a better comp and he went for Chase Petty.
Berrios is much better than Montas

Obviously too much or we would have traded for him or Manaea...if you take Vaughn out of the equation, there's no way to acquire a top-flight/cost-controlled starting pitcher.
Just have to wait for minor leaguers to establish themselves the first 3-4 months.
The Reds traded Gray for Chase Petty. Vaughn has far more trade value than Petty.
Rough couple days for you

Moncada just lost his starting spot. Burger is going to rake. And he's going to play with energy and passion, unlike Moncada who seems annoyed to be out there.
As far as injuries go, this should actually improve the roster

The amount of complaining in this thread is a sure sign this is a good move.
The same people who claimed Kimbrel had negative value are moping the most of course

MLBTR listed the players out of options and some interesting guys on the list.
Sean Newcomb
Tyler Beede
Dillon Peters
Jeff Hoffman
It might be worth taking a shot on a guy who is about to be DFA'ed or could be had for cheap rather than dumpster diving the FA market. At least by doing a trade if it works out you have a player with a bit of control
Cueto is a hell of a lot better than all of those guys. Those 4 are just VV type of pitchers. Cueto at least was an effective SP last year
-
This is what people wanted, right? A backup C who is solid with the glove?
It's odd, but not surprising to see the miserable mopes complain about this. It's a good trade that makes moving Grandal to DH 40-50 games a lot more palatable

IMO, A's will be looking for a pitching prospect in any trade for Manaea plus Sheets, Burger, or Vaughn.
You really, really need to look at what other SP are being traded for. Vaughn alone would get a lot more than Manaea.
Burger/Sheets + a pitching prospect is more realistic

Bahahahaha more water carrying. I’ll trust them when they make the acquisitions necessary to fill holes on the team and get beyond the first round of the playoffs.
So if they win 85 games but make the ALCS that would be more validating than winning 105 and losing in the ALDS?
I have no idea how anyone puts more weight into a best of 5 series than a 162 game season

Also what has Luis Gonzalez done to "prove" anything? I don't get it

You know who was better than Adam Haseley?
Luis Gonzalez, our 6th outfielder last year who is know on the Giants and was actually able to play a good center field.
Giants dropped Gonzalez from their 40 man. He's a Spring NRI. So if the Sox wanted him back, they could easily have done that.

Hahn making moves!
The sponsors will be pleased!

Some will probably believe this is actually real and Hahn was just being super sarcastic...or it would be considered tampering with the FA market.
What do THE SPONSORS think though?!?!

Didn't Parkman already write this?
It's kind of the same position the Indians are in with Ramirez, Bieber, Clase and Karinchak to a lesser extent.
Except I think Jack picked the players that were closer to FA or veterans like Gio, TA7, Hendriks, Lynn and Grandal...
A bit like the Oakland A's trying to drive their team into the ground ala the Cleveland Indians in Major League 1...so as to further justify their relocation to Las Vegas.

Borrowing this from southsider2k5's post about TLR hiring...between Kimbrel, this year's current FA debacle and now the way Lucas Giolito was treated so disrespectfully by the White Sox (just like Black Jack McDowell, although Lucas is 10X the more mature and even-keeled individual in comparison)...don't know how to communicate how disgusted Sox fans actually are with the current state of things heading in what was once supposed to be one of the greatest seasons in franchise history. This feeling today is what we spent a decade building towards???? REALLY? It has already been self-sabotaged in a variety of ways. How do you go from last October to now selling LESS season tickets than you had at the beginning of the 2021 season??? If he was just carrying out Jerry Reinsdorf's orders to punish Lucas for being the team union rep and involved in MLBPA negotiations with Manfred, shame on him for doing so...that's not the type of GM that will ever lead the White Sox to the promised land, it's just not the right way to treat employees, whatever legal-ese nonsense he puts out there on social media about it not having affected the relationship one bit moving forward, yadda yadda yadda. You should know better with all those years of education at elite universities. Treat others how you would like to be treated, it's actually quite simple.

This might be the worst OP on the internet.
Good work dude, it takes a lot to be this detached from reality, so I'm actually impressed.

Last year =/= "at the moment". People like you keep trying to do this with Vaughn, and I don't get it.
He'll be one of the best hitters on the team most likely.

You guys really wouldn’t trade Sheets and Crochet for Montas?
No. I'd rather just sign Pineda and keep Crochet + Sheets.
The Twins got Sonny Gray, a better pitcher than Montas, for a far lesser prospect than Crochet alone.
-
1 hour ago, Balta1701 said:
The obvious response then is you’re not getting Montas.
The obvious response to that is that if the price is an Andrew Vaughn level return, Montas will be pitching in Oakland this season.
-
If Bassitt can be had for JT Ginn then Vaughn would be a massive overpay for Montas.
Even Sheets + Crochet is an absurd overpay.
Again, the Twins got Sonny Gray for just Chase Petty. That's the type of value you look for. If Montas costs that much, just walk away and find a different deal

By the way, one thing that needs to be said, although it shouldn't have to be.....if the Sox trade Kimbrel, get salary relief and don't do anything with the flexibility after that....it's a bad move.
Craig Kimbrel should be somewhat productive this season, with the Sox or someone else. The Sox already have too much invested into their pen, and Kimbrel carries a huge price tag. But if that money is moved, and nothing is done with said savings, the Sox really accomplished nothing.
Again, that is incredibly obvious, but I feel like some have missed that point. It's not just about dumping Kimbrel. It's then using that money on something the Sox actually need.
That Zach Lavine extension isn't going to pay for itself

Because he's worlds better as a hitter against right handers at the moment.
Sheets against righties - 143 wRC+. 160 PA. Second best on the Sox, behind only Grandal.
Vaughn against righties - 68 wRC+. 328 PA.
Anyone who picked the second option over the first would be dumb. Vaughn might/should get better, but he's not there yet. And when he does, it doesn't mean you have to bench Sheets. It really comes down to whether you play Vaughn or Engel against some right handers. Engel has the better defense, so Vaughn has to outhit Engel too. And last year, he didn't.
Engel against righties in 2021 - 154 wRC+. Granted, this was only 91 PAs.
Vaughn may have hit a HR in today's game. That's great. But he's going to have to earn his PAs against right handers over time.
Vaughn will probably be the second best hitter on the team this year.
He needs to play everyday and he needs ABs vs RHP, even if it isn't clicking right away. It's odd some of our fans look at Vaughn as a finished product, hell Adley Rutschman, the #1 pick from Vaughn's draft class, hasn't even played a MLB game yet.
