  1. How would you like to have in your job description "explain every why your bunch of mediocre fielders that are mostly  hitting under Mendoza just lost again."

I'm not saying he's not an idiot, but how many losses can he be blamed for this season?  Yes, he comes off as defensive.  Wouldn't you or I?

When apathy and the weight of losing piles on, it can absolutely get worse.

Coaches that say things like "eventually it's going to have to turn around" are coaches that have ZERO answers.

I'll provide some answers for him.  He was charged with  coming in and increasing the fly ball rate and it's not working for a bunch of singles (at best) hitters.  Everybody's in deep [stuff].

Kopech as a closer will not be good for my blood pressure

He is what he was and that's not what a closer needs to be.  I'm not sure if I want to call him a weak minded airhead.  100+ now is to hitters like 95 used to be and there isn't much else.  All he would need is one more reliable pitch for a 3-4 batter stint.  So, you keep trying new guys until you find one that sucks the least. Billy Beane said that he could make anyone into a closer and he was never wrong. 😁

The rotation is looking better.  Crochet looks like a physical Titan, Fedde's stuff has me super impressed and Clevinger will give us an honest day's work.

As far as the new PBP, he's got better broadcasting skills than Jason and he's less irritating.  Jason was better at basketball than baseball, but hoops can make anyone sound good.  All the negative things I've seen about Jason on this board over the years were forgotten for a few weeks, but sanity seems to have returned.

It isn't right but fans are more willing to forgive having unsavory characters if their team is actually good and/or the player is a premium talent.  The White Sox are going to be atrocious this year with or without Clevinger and he is a mediocre pitcher.

Mediocre is damn fine Around This Place.

  5. Grifol would have preferred to start someone really good who could give you 6 and keep it a game.  I can't think of the guy's name.  Can anyone?  I mean the guy has to be on the team as of now.

Katz?  He's got a method and it doesn't fit everyone.  Different method, but same problem as Cooper. At least Katz is aware of the science of throwing a baseball more than Don was.

I think Wil Cordero was the first WTF! dude in my White sox life, even though, Jungle Jim Rivera (I think, Liptak can help here) was an accused rapist when Bill Veeck signed him and made excuses for him.

Baseball's fun. I don't want to root for dudes, and bring the youngin's in my family out to spend time rooting for, who have raped, strangled, abused, shot at, beat up,  or abandoned the women in their life. I get it. You're rock stars. The p*ssy's being thrown at you. Learn how to deal with it. People are bringing their kids to watch you and cheer for you. Into the rough stuff? Be real careful. You got a multi-million dollar career floating on that.

The insecure, barn-yard, rat-soup-eatin', MFin' bro-dudes who feel the need to root for that sh*t because it somehow makes them feel stronger, I don't even know how to respond to that. Get help!

Rivera was sentenced to 4 years in a military prison for attempted rape of an officer's daughter. That would account for him being a 29 year old rookie.  It's a while ago, but the Sox were told by MLB to keep him on the Sox roster and not farm him out.  Nice guy.  I met him once.

Clevinger takes the ball every 5 days and gives you a chance to win.  Plus he's not in jail or close to it.  Judge not lest you be judged.

We gotta throw in Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams if we are playing the blame game here. These guys sat around while the ship sank.

Just based on timing, the Burger trade was what got them fired. My 2 cents anyway.

He did indeed say that. Some called it the "Aparicio curse." He was upset that after the 1962 season Ed Short wanted to cut his salary.

When they reacquired him in '65(?) he said that he didn't mean it. Fun stuff either way.

It's incumbent on Getz to be clear with Pedro and the coaching staff what the priorities are, and that they will be judged on long term considerations, not wins and losses. If Getz is prioritizing win now, which his February moves and NRIs plus Merkin's tea-leaves indicate, Getz is the primary problem, not Pedro.

Also, someone needs to work with both Pedro and Getz to improve their communication skills.

Hire the guy that's kept Jerry clueless as far as what to say and how to say it for 40 years.

Daley was mayor when the process began in 2004. Here you go.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_bid_for_the_2016_Summer_Olympics

Daley was against the City having to finance the games with tax dollars. The opposition to the plan was short sighted as it would have created a lot of jobs when Chicago needed them and revitalized areas that some people now complain about.

Fox News political consistency?  OK, they are a consistent source of bigotry and race baiting designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator and cannot be trusted as a reliable source of news.

That’s what I was saying re: Fox and anything involving Democrats. Thx for the reminder on Daley. I didn’t recall.

Tell me if you were against Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics (supported by Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, Mayor Daley and opposed by Fox News and the Republican Right) but are now all in on this 78 plan. Give me a break.

GRF is not structurally unsound so building an office park with a stadium designed by a Developer (that has never designed a baseball stadium?)  seems like a good idea to compete with the Cubs for downtown area residents?  Uh no.  Oh so let our fan base figure out a way to get to games from Frankfort, New Lenox, Homer Glen, Plainfield, Joliet etc. ... on trains and boats...what a great idea....especially when  Southwest suburbanites are probably the largest segment of Sox nation that regularly attend games.

My buddies and I have a season ticket package which includes the Opener with Cease pitching. Meanwhile, I am pretty sick about the Related 78 development hype which is all about scoring them a huge windfall on vacant property that no one has wanted to develop for decades. The Sox and most  of their fans would be better off if the Sox eventually build on the site of the Original Comiskey and develop the South side of 35th street.

My own fan input: It would be great to see renderings from sports stadium architects that incorporate  historical design elements and, of course, fan input to build on the site of Old Comiskey. I would love to one up the Cubs by leaving the Left Field bleachers open to downtown and a new street behind the left field wall like Waveland  with some commercial/residential rather than sticking a scoreboard there to block views. Instead perhaps a large screen in Center, maybe even a curved screen like a gaming monitor on steroids.  Replace some of the ball/ strike/out info with colored circular LED bulbs that mimic the bulbs in the outfield in Fenway...part of a throwback design. Go back to an analog clock on top of the scoreboard and lose the twirly bird spinners which are not original design elements. Ivy? Yes, it is already in CF at GRF (and was something that Veeck was in favor of at Wrigley) so some green elements would be a good idea, especially to cover the large concrete wall along the train tracks.  Have bars/restaurants on the South side of 35th with fenced in Patio areas in back of them, and yes, keep all of the rest of the South lots for parking. Tailgating can either be allowed in some lots or not allowed. That is not a deal breaker.

Let Related come up with their next idea to pawn off the 78 on someone else. I'm with the City and the State on this. Don't look to the residents of IL to fund something that in many ways, makes no sense whatsoever and is not needed for years to come.

Just saying, Rahm Emanuel was mayor 2011-2019, not Daley and I'm fairly certain that Obama prevailed on him to support the pain -in-the -ass that the Olympics would be. Fox News may have been against it for reasons of political consistency, but I was right with them.

All fine and dandy. Now the big question. Who pays for it?

I'm pretty sure I've heard Governor JB say "not us."  And I hope he sticks to his guns.  And I think your pipe dreams about all the loop workers who now won't hop on the subway for a 10 minute ride to GRF, will be walking to ballgames are just, well, pipe dreams. Besides, the current park is quite serviceable and already well located.

Be prepared for another cliffhanger with threats from the team and a romance with an ot-of-town destination except that this time, it just might happen.
