  2. South Side Hit Men

    Somewhat tough decision for my 36th win, but after reflection will select a great pitcher from the 1977 South Side Hitmen, Lerrin LaGrow, who earned a 4.2 bWAR season as a reliever, and finished the season 7-3 with 25 saves over 66 games and finished with a 2.46 ERA.

  4. South Side Hit Men

    While I always loved Freddie Garcia, Richard Dotson pitched in my younger years and was an integral part of the 1983 Chicago White Sox! I really wish he played his entire career with the White Sox, after brief stints with the scum laden Yankees and Royals at the end of his career. 

    It's been a long cold spell since my last win, hope to pick up more wins during Spring Training and the 2024 Season. I am really looking forward to both.

  5. South Side Hit Men

    After careful consideration, I am going with another member of the World Champion 2005 Chicago White Sox to honour my 33rd win. Aaron Rowan’s was a solid Centerfielder who put up 12.7 bWAR for the White Sox, including an incredible 5.7 season in 2004 and a 3.7 season to help the White Sox win the World Series. Jim Thome had a few good years here, but I hated the trade of Aaron Rowan’s and Gio Gonzalez real time, and will for the rest of my life and beyond.

    I won the day Sunday October 8, 2023  with my lowest reputation point count for a win.

  6. South Side Hit Men

    Was between Brian Anderson’s final number his last three Sox seasons and my selection. Steve Stone had a solid season for the SSHM, so I am going for him. He is a solid announcer as well for the Sox, and has stopped attacking fans on Twitter, so that’s nice.

    Hard decision between my selection and the current number 31 and my selection, the man who won the only playoff game in 1983, Dewey LaMarr Hoyt. LaMarr, as he preferred to be known, finished with 11.2 bWAR over six White Sox seasons, including a 5.0 season in 1982, where he received no Cy Young or MVP consideration, and a 3.7 season in 1983, culminating in the Cy Young Award and a 13th place finish in MVP voting.

    Sadly LaMarr Hoyt passed away in Columbia, South Carolina on November 29, 2021 at the age of 66. RIP and thanks for the memories!

    I realize a subset of current SoxTalk posters will form a lynch mob for not selecting Jake Burger to honour #30, but I have a no brainer selection, one of my favorite players on my two favorite teams. Tim "Rock" Raines, one of the greatest leadoff hitters in MLB history. Tim played here for five years, the best five year stretch in post segregation White Sox history. So glad he came here after a great career in Montreal. He should have been a first ballot Hall of Famer. 64th highest offensive bWAR in MLB history, 72nd overall bWAR.

  9. South Side Hit Men

    Had a tough decision for my win on August 8, 2023. I considered Greg Walker but ended up going with a rare 1990s player, since I didn't watch much baseball and boycotted the new stadium beyond opening night tickets and free tickets late in the decade.

    I selected Jack McDowell to honor, for his great pitching on behalf of the team including a playoff team and a should have been World Series team before Jerry Reinsdorf destroyed the hopes and dreams of not only White Sox and Montreal Expos fans, but baseball fans around the world. I also selected Jack McDowell for exposing lifetime cheater Tony La Russa, for his elaborate schemes of stealing signs from the scoreboard before going onto much larger cheating schemes with Balco, the Oakland Athletics and the Saint Louis Cardinals.

    I am honouring Wilbur Wood, my first favorite player and favorite White Sox as a six year old in 1975. I thought he was Superman because he was able to pitch both games of a doubleheader, not knowing the nuances of being a knuckleball pitcher. He could have pitched several more seasons if that knee injury did not occur. While this was not my highest point total for a day, it's my highest point total for a winning day, sparked by the Tim Anderson fight.
