He gets paid by Fox for his work in Saturdays. Don’t think he gets much for this gig, more to gain exposure and possibly work on broadcasting.
The interview was nearly a half hour and cordial. Getz evaded questions at times but more informative and enjoyable than a typical Hahn interview.

Sheets and Benintendi were on State and Lake handing out free hot dogs at 10AM.
“Who doesn’t want a hot dog at 10 a.m.?” Sheets asked reporters Wednesday.
All the free CPS tickets for the weekend and Monday have been claimed. Need to keep up these promotions especially geared toward kids and families to try to reclaim the next generation of city baseball fans.

They could have traded Cease and Benintendi to the Dodgers or Mets for lower end prospects, and either could just DFA’d Benintendi and not batted an eye financially to acquire Cease.
This would have left the Sox with just $33.5M guaranteed in 2025 ($15M Robert, $7.5M Fedde plus Yoan ($5M), Eloy ($3M) plus misc. $3M (Brebbia, Stasdi, Hendricks) with a shot at a $50M-$60M payroll from 2025 forward just cycling through league minimum guys.
As it stands, they might not cross the $100M mark the rest of this decade without a change in ownership or substantial sustained progress which will eventually draw fans back to the ballpark.
The only good out of this is the Sox did acquire several good prospects who might help them later in the decade.

I don’t think a few % point of taxes on hotels has much meaning on travel considerations for tourists or conventioners for that matter. And subsidizing property taxes for major sports organizations that provide the area with jobs and other forms of tax revenue doesn’t seem that unreasonable to me.
Honestly, I don’t think the state funding these stadiums via a hotel tax has any noticeable impact on the quality of any of our lives. But it would provide us with two much better stadiums / areas to watch and experience Chicago sports in for generations to come. To me, funding these are a no-brainer if they can agree to terms that are a bit more friendly to Illinois taxpayers than the past ones (for example, no free rent when attendance sucks). Congratulations! Have you moved to the city, or the suburbs? Regardless, I hope you and your family enjoy your time here and are prosperous, perhaps over generations like many of us including my family. There are only two households left in the city (My Aunt and I), with two more in the far NW/N suburbs.
I understand and in some ways sympathize with the pro-stadium(s) support. I also don't want the Sox to move. I'm more absolutist in terms of preserving lakefront space, which will not be undone if it ever happens (Star Wars, Bears), but do sincerely believe we all benefit, even White Sox fans with no tax skin in the game, to make sure this is done right, including financing, infrastructure and the stadium.
So much was poorly thought out / disclosed / honestly conveyed in regards to Comiskey Park II, primarily due to the fact Jerry basically controlled the whole project. This includes major mistakes which the city/state/taxpayers spent hundreds of millions of dollars to rectify, and a decade plus experiencing substandard conditions as fans, primarily in the UD but also just the sightline toward the RT Homes vs. Downtown.
I'm glad there may be at least one grownup in the room which will hold significant aspects of the construction and financing to reasonable review and approval, assuming this ever gets done. While I personally rather have the team stay at 35th and Shields, and thrive under new ownership, I do realize I am in the minority on a White Sox fan board, but believe I'm in the majority in terms of Chicagoans who call this place home.

A portion does, as do a significant portion norm by businesses who pay for lodging for visiting out of area employees and customers. Also hurts the ability of convention business with Chicago losing significant events over the decades in part due to higher costs here including taxes.
City and State taxpayers are also paying for all the shortfalls in the bullshit tax revenue projections used to sell these schemes. Tens of millions each year and growing. Stadiums are an expense to be shifted/minimized.

Johnson will give them a blank canvas. He is the scheme’s Pedro Grifol in terms of being a junior partner, having little final say, and being well beyond his element in any aspect of his job.
Pritzker might end up being an obstacle, but hopefully he will remain firm. Friends of the Parks will certainly be an obstacle.
Meadowlands II and the new Los Angeles stadium are the lone two privately owned NFL stadiums.
Both have significant events being in by far the largest metro areas. Also, Los Angeles County / City isn’t handing out free stadiums like our politicians, and also received significant infrastructure subsidies.
East Rutherford gave the Giants/Jets a sweetheart lease in terms of property taxes, land (they profit on parking for all events and other uses year round), and also state subsidies for hosting events like the upcoming World Cup. If either had government offering billions with little rights lost in the process the teams would have snapped those up faster than Billy Hamilton.
Arlington Heights, they won’t have the same drawing power in terms of musical acts and other events LA and NYC can pull off. Will also be hard to staff beyond the 10 Bears games due to lack of demand for low income jobs and lack of transportation or proximity to low income workers. The city holds this advantage over any other location, plus existing transportation infrastructure the entire region can access to reach downtown. Arlington Heights has a single Metra line.

The terms to vest the players option, assuming he would want to exercise at year end, is 10 starts ($20M vested), with an additional $2.5M vested at 18 and 23 starts.
I’m glad the asshole Yankees wimped out. While I’m typically critical of MLB owners, kudos to Arizona ownership for getting this done.

I followed Men's as a kid and young adult, but gave it up 30 years ago beyond filling out the office bracket pools using Sagarin ratings until about 15 years ago. Just no interest in CBB / NBA since the early 1990s. Really just down to the Sox at this point, and the Expos if they were ever resurrected.
I've only watched/listened to three WBB games ever, all three this year (first two Iowa tournament games plus the Lincoln 3A championship because SIL went there and it was their first State title in anything, It's a different style of play, closer to watching a boys HS game. Based on graduation rates, much more close to the student athlete model than the Patino/Calipari one and done nonsense CBB as turned into.
Think it's good for women's sports to gain exposure, and don't see much of a difference in terms of time commitment or interest required to watch men's vs. women's sports.

Of course, wouldn't be surprised to see Iowa (really thought they were going down tonight)...although they did beat Colorado at this exact point in the proceedings a year ago. It's almost impossible to believe they could beat LSU, and then even if they managed that, they would be so wiped out physically and mentally that S.Carolina would roll them by 15-20.
The site I used for the point spreads and seeding seems to be updated weekly, doesn’t have games posted since Saturday. This site updates daily, and provides both the percentage odds of winning and a predicted score.
Saw the pros (getting a lot more fans) of hosting first two games at home and cons (only three non home teams one, two of the three were basically pick’ems with Duke the one substantial underdog which escaped).
Even Middle Tennessee State wasn’t a first round upset, just poor seeding bias for Power Conferences and against mid majors.

157 on possibly the final season of NBC Sports Chicago. 2024-2025 broadcasts effective October 1, 2024 are to be determined.
Three of five remaining games will air over the air on FOX (7/27 6:15 PM vs. Seattle ; 8/10 6:15 PM vs. Chicago; 9/7 6:15 PM at Boston), with the remaining two broadcast for the few who have it on Apple TV (4/26 6:40 PM vs. Tampa Bay & 5/24 6:40 PM vs. Baltimore). I think Pillar gets $1 million guaranteed, and can make up to another $1 million in incentives.
No, he is only guaranteed $180K plus a pro-rated (x / 172 calendar days) $1M for the days he is on the active or IL MLB roster starting Thursday. His incentives start at $50k for 175 PAs with $50k more for every 25 more through a max of $50K for 350 ($500k total).
Will be tough unless he somehow manages to hold off Fletcher, Colas, Grossman, Sheets (Sox's choice) for a substantial number of starts this season. Late inning defensive substitutions won't help toward his incentives. Think he'll be happy just to stay on the Sox or another team's active roster for the entire season to lock in his full vested retirement benefits.

Montgomery will sign shortly after Opening Day, in part to ensure he is not subject to a QU next offseason.
Beyond the NRI players released or opting out Friday, Greinke and Pham are the two without deals I thought would have deals this season. Clevinger not surprising due to baggage.
There is still time for the Sox or another team to add depth / replace injured pitchers with Cueto, Hill, Syndergaard, Boyd, others.

Now that we have reached Opening Day, the lists below track 40 Man Roster transactions effective with Chris Getz' hire (interim 8/23, permanent 8/31/23).
Would be interesting to know the last previous season, if ever, the White Sox have changed over half the 40 man between the final game of the previous season and opening day the following season.
I will try to update the roster changes either annually or twice annually (end of season and start of following season) until Rick Hahn’s entire 40 man roster is purged.
Heading into Opening Day, Getz has added 24 players to the 40 man roster.
Only 19 of the players who remain on the 40 Man Roster (16) or 60 Day MLB IL (3) were added by Rick Hahn (see subsequent post).
