It has also been shown — repeatedly — that Reinsdorf only moves on from the status quo if that status quo is national embarrassment.

It's why Thibs got canned (leaking stuff to the press that show Bulls dysfunction), why GarPax got jettisoned (the ASG protests), KW/Hahn finally being fired, etc.

Now imagine if the status quo is national embarrassment? Getz has done f*** and all to show that he can put together a roster, with his best MLB acquisition so far being (using fWAR for the sake of something quantifiable)...Kevin Pillar and Steven Wilson.

So a guy that they dicked around in free agency and a reliever that was part of a trade package for their ace.

Pedro will be this year's sacrificial lamb, but if they're hysterically bad (I'm talking minus-60 wins) while Reinsdorf is trying to get a stadium deal — Getz might actually feel heat. If he gets them to even 70 wins, his job is safe.

Well said. And Im not sure Getz is supposed to be accomplishing something better than status quo. But if he actually undershot the status quo historically as a miscalculation, bring it on. The star of the franchise is actually a milkshake.

Ask yourself this question: how would a historically bad season cause the outcome you want?

because I’m not sure that a 120 loss season affects Reinsdorf’s net worth or the franchise valuation that much, especially because the biggest dollars are from cable, not from ticket sales. Unless lots and lot of people stay away for years I’m not sure it does anything either way.

that all being said I’m verging on full boycott mode (as I did for the Blackhawks from 1997 until the day Bill Wirtz died)

I don’t have an answer for that, but status quo seems insane. We’re looking at the richest contract in franchise history in left field as illustrative of massive dysfunction of a moribund franchise. Just let it burn. Nothing’s going to happen positively either way. At least more people will point at Jerry Reinsdorf as a clown. At least people will look at his stadium proposal as a joke. At least he can’t relax in his suite if the team is a laughing stock that  North America has never seen before. If Jerry is uncomfortable, that is worth something to me, because I’m pretty god damn uncomfortable.

Im finding myself wanting the Sox to lose in embarrassing fashion day in and day out. I would be even happier if they break some records along the way. Worst record is still on the table, the shutout record, worst OPS record, etc..

I consider myself a diehard fan, but what kind of fan wants their team to fail miserably? We can only draft 10th next year so why am i feeling this way? I dont quite know what to think anymore.

does anyone else feel this way?

    Enthusiastically, unashamedly.

I’m actually rooting for this outcome. Something, anything it takes to set Jerry Reinsdorf on fire. Figuratively I guess, lol.

The great thing about what happened to the Bears is that local and national media went after Nagy with torches and pitchforks at Halas hall. Not that Nagy wasn’t a scapegoat, because he was. But it took an angry mob to force wholesale change. It may not be possible to get wholesale change because in this case, While Reinsdorf is actually the problem, he is ownership also. But there literally needs to be an angry media and fanbase  mob after this guy like the city has never seen before.

  5. This franchise keeps on not having a long term (minor league talent) sustainability project like the top tier teams have. I suspect even after this debacle, whatever talent is infused into the system to recover will be left to languish just like the current build was. And here we are, faced with an effort to rationalize our long term support of the Sox while the owner smokes his cigars and watches bemused as he has for decades.

And can we stop blaming Grifol or the training staff or anyone or anything else for the injuries. This is the player that he is, just like Eloy.

Do you really believe that if Grifol and the training staff would have held him out for a few days to rest whatever, that he would have been hurt a week later or two weeks later? Of course not.

Fans always blame coaches, manager, training staff when they have got place to go. Like Zack Mayo.

  7. Too bad the Sox hadn't moved from him and a lot of guys on 2 years ago. Should be able to recognize lame horses. A good organization would have identified lost causes, found ways to clean house, and had options. But key being, "good oreganization". As soon as I heard covid being bandied about as an excuse, it seemed clear the Sox have poisoned the fanbase with a lack of inertia

Not even joking here. Soxtalk RIPPED Tony to shreds for telling players not to hustle all the time. Look at what has happened to our team for hustling to first. Yoan went down with a terrible looking injury. Eloy went down running to first, AGAIN. Robert tore his hip flexor running to first, then pulled it again recently while rounding first.

Tony knew his personnel. He knew that he had a bunch of players made of glass. He got demolished for it, but he was right. You can't have any of the "big 3" hustling at this point. They are getting destroyed from it. I know Soxtalk's MO is "blame Tony and Pedro for everything", but Tony was correct here.

I hate to admit it. But Tony looks better as time goes on. But that doesn’t mean he looks good.

And people called me crazy when I suggested the Sox trade Robert last offseason. He finally had a healthy season, sell high. Might not even play 50 games this season. Good luck trying to get even half the value they could have gotten next offseason.

Ah, the perils of doing a rebuild on the fly, or keeping one guy while rebuilding around him  for no apparent reason. Was it Jerry that said they still wanted to win this year? That would’ve been stupid to say or strive for given the program and circumstances.

How can this keep happening? One week into the season and Eloy and Robert are both hurt. Can you imagine being a player or coach on this team? How can you even pretend you have a chance to win when you take the field? p.s. Can you believe how bad a hitter Beni is?

The Sox are a very static team. Or were. They acquired a group of players with one vision, and basically stopped adding to it. Or adjusting along the way plus or minus. Ride or die. Anybither team would have moved on from Eloy long ago, or would have a backup plan up and running. Not that they’re trying to win this year. But last year they were. Cease obviously signaling they finally got it through their thick heads to clean house. But they should have been hip deep in a new build before this season

They had an open 40-man slot. I didn't see anybody cut their worst 40-man person to take on Popeye.

So, when they get one more guy they’re gonna trade Rodriguez for Cash. Love  that Cash guy, he gets around

Consistent, embarrassing arguments that we shouldn’t make a big deal about the small, dumb decisions because we should, what, save our energy for the bigger, harder decisions they’ll inevitably f*** up? I have enough energy; yall dont need to worry.

Until the Sox actually build a roster of accomplishment, if something looks dumb, I will assume it is

  13. If Philly would rather have him than their own cash, there’s no reason the Sox shouldn’t feel the same about keeping him. 22 years old, how many 22 year olds are still in the Sox system that are complete garbage. At least the guy  actually has a few tools

Well it just seems like he was hired to be the Sox’ Eberflus, holding the bag for a real manager that comes along to coach the real roster. If ever there is such a thing on the SS. The Grifol era may be here for awhile. Ron isn’t completely off his meds. Why would the Sox ever fire a guy hired to take all the incoming.
