If you did a little of that in November, fine, you’re probably not going to scare away the fish. If you’re doing that in December, they’ll just understand that you’re not serious and go figure out other options.

That wouldn't explain how the White Sox got Lucas Giolito, Dane Dunning, and Reynaldo Lopez for Adam Eaton. I'm sure they asked for more.

Early December, the Winter Meetings, is not so early that you want to tell everyone that his price is exorbitant and something no one would ever pay if you actually are wanting to move him.

exorbitant. Who defines that? Starting high in a negotiation, or gauging a market price for a product is not the same practice as indulging in exorbitance. It’s an ask. If there are no takers, and prices stay the same, that’s where exorbitant labels come in. Early on, its likely just a lure thrown out to see if a fish jumps onto  the hook. And possibly to get other teams to put better offers out than their own early offers if they wanted an early deal.

Yeah they’re not trading him if they’re asking for that much

What you really mean is that they're not trading him this early if they are asking for that much. Some GMs always want to "win" trades notoriously. Other GMs find dealing with those guys distasteful. But Getz isn't doing that. Teams will definately pay a high price. Depending on circumstances. But  they usually don't do it early, that's for sure. We are early. And they never pay something ridiculous this side of the Minnesota Vikings. But there is nothing ridiculous described here that says nothing will happen if the Sox keep the high ask. If Getz wasn't using high standards going into his deals, that would be malpractice. We will see who blinks when the pressure is really on.

I would definitely be surprised if Getz got Reinsdorf to agree to a plan that involves them not competing until 2026.

You know, I don't know. Reinsdorf would be foolish not to. Most new GMs are on basically, a 3 year plan of retooling/rebuilding, with relaxed expectations. You might think an inexperienced GM like Getz with no record of accomplishment ought to have the benefit of lower immediate expectations. The exceptions are the teams with good rosters that have underperformed. But the Sox are certainy not that exception.

You are setting yourself up for extreme disappointment when it becomes readily apparent that "the plan" is to have Beni be the 2nd leading position player in HRs.

They are going all in on pitching, D, speed and small ball. They don't care that there's a short porch for LHS at GRF.

    Getz simply DGAF.

It's almost as stupid as constructing a roster full of RHH like his predecessor did.

You're looking at 2024 as the end product of a plan, which is the wrong idea. I wouldn't be surprised if Getz is working on a 3 year plan of a remodel. Remodel as in, they leave up one wall with the electric box connection for tax  purposes after the rest of the structure was demo-ed

Trent Grisham if he stays…no way Judge isn’t on a corner.

The guy is a GGer…that’s his single biggest individual strength.

Grisham is a lhb just Verdugo so depends on who is hottest between him and Verdugo…if anything too left-handed lol.

Verdugo could be in CF with Soto in LF and Judge in RF…or Verdugo for Soto with Juan DHing and Grisham in CF.    Or Soto LF Grisham CF Verdugo RF with Judge DH.

I like the logic and analysis exercise, but I read this, raised my eyebrows, and took a long sip of coffee. I wish I had an actual newspaper to shake instead of a laptop

Nashville Mayor also has Jewish descent, is a progressive Democrat, and appears to have ideological views that are in line with some of Jerry's. Sounds like a good man from what I have read.

Meanwhile, Sox aren't goin' nowhere and our fan base is strong. Don't take this dinner as something designed for cheap leverage or like paparazzi reporting of TayTay and Kelce. The Sox are already in a commanding contractual position with the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority and the City and they will stay right here.

All of the consternation I read here seems to point to the necessity to add talent and try to compete rather than selling and trading off talent. I expect the Sox will spend on talent if the right deal comes along.

Our fan base is bordering on apathetic. Definitely despondent. I would agree that if Jerry wasn’t tone deaf, he wouldn’t be dumping salary and players right now, adding rather, but it’s pretty fucking obvious that he is tone deaf. And I have rarely met a prospects rebuild that I didn’t like.  And your  take that our consternation doesn’t point to Jerry selling is not very observant. It points to selling to the point we’re almost driving the Sox to the airport and truck terminal.

    Jerry selling the team yeah!!

To a group from Nashville. The perfect ending that franchise in Chicago.

Then an expansion team moves into the suburbs with a clean start and a fan base that could be ex pat Sox and casual Cub fans.

    WE DID IT! 👀🫣

  9. Cut payroll, dump players, to what end? After the draft, even the benefit of tanking is out.

The fanbase is up in arms over years (now decades) of poor managment, and bad publicity. The response is to make the team even worse? They want to sign a bunch of seat fillers instead of longer term solutions. If there was any time to try and mend fences with fans, and spend a little assets for the on-field product, this is it. Jerry Reinsdorf thinks it is time to go to Nashville. I don't understand what is happening at the height of fan discontent. Typically teams cut payroll before they are sold. Not while languishing in desperate need for lifelines. It's just bad business.

I asked this in another thread. Do people really think that some one is going to buy the Sox and spend the team into the red? Owners just don't do that. The teams that spend well over the luxury tax are the highest revenue teams which cover that deficit.

Owners spend in the first 5 years due to the tax breaks but then it slows down. Look at Cohen. Last season everyone was going crazy with "look at how he was spending." It's already slowed and the Mets are a much higher revenue team.

I just don't see anyone buying the team and the situation being much different. People will hate the next billionaire as well. Until they win.

there's only a few owners with Jerry's pathetic record of big contract spending.  I doubt the next owner would run the team the same way with antipathy towards superstars

They had the 4th worst record so dropping a spot isn't a big deal. In the end it won't matter much anyway.

Here's who MLB.com has ranked as the #5 selection just FYI:

    5. Jac Caglianone, 1B/LHP, Florida
Mayo: “Two-way player at Florida. He’s really interesting even if we are not sure what he is. Most people like him as a hitter. There are holes on each side. He has a ton of power, but tends to chase a little. Big, huge lefty. On the mound, he’s up in the upper 90s and misses a lot of bats. But, some command issues. We’ll see what he is. 6-foot-5, 290-pounds. He’s a lot of fun. I think it’s great for college baseball to have a legitimate two-way guy at that level, at the very least.”

    Yep...another first baseman LOL 😆

I'm excited to see some news but I'll admit when I saw the thread title, I did wonder what the f*** is a fedde?

‘A Fedde’. Known nomenclature substitute for ‘A Reinsdorf’.  Understood to be a typical substitute for a real aquisition.

    It's tight now so I don't have much. Eloy's value is...down.

Eloy’s and Zach Lavine’s. That means, it is time to enter the trade market in Chicago. I can’t imagine Cease’s value is anywhere near where it should be to make it a smart trading time either.

I’d be very disappointed with Norby as the 2nd piece in a trade.  I love Kjerstad but think another team would be able to beat that offer.

If the Sox are so impatient to get a deal done quickly, expect a disappointing outcome. They gotta be willing to pull Cease off the trading block, and trade him at the deadline. The sharks probably smell weakness and inexperience. Maybe they even smell a Cease decline. In which case, yeah, the Sox have to rush the deal. But that's an easy read for the league then. Do you expect to see top offers? I don't. Not until Cease is back on the bump, shutting teams down.

It still leaves us with 3 DH /1st basemen useless baserunners and terrible fielders.

Snapshot in time. I believe Getz was serious about  defense. In a rebuild, you acquire assets, and fine tune for fit later by converting those assets into other parts.

I hope your not talking about Jacob Gonzalez. I'm still pissed off with that pick! I'm hoping Shirley had no say and that was Kenny Williams last horrible mistake he made with the organization.

You can never have too many players that play up the middle. I'm fine with with getting multiple players that can bring athleticism/versatility in the Cease deal.

Shirley seems to have been driving the high round picks the last few years. The only way I can reserve judgement on a very Kenny type pick.
