  1. If they are sitting Robert to be cautious on slippery field, then I'm okay with it.
  2. general question: when a team makes a last minute change in its starting pitcher, can the other team change to a totally different starting line-up?
  3. If you want a #4.5 pitcher at the deadline, it's going to have to be Burger or Sheets going. If the guys who are supposed to hit are hitting then having no hit good defense at 2nd is fine. If they are not hitting, then it doesn't matter. Lefty bat is the greater need so Burger would have to go.
  4. 1. Tim Anderson - SS 2. AJ Pollock - RF 3. Yasmani Grandal - C 4. Jose Abreu - DH 5. Gavin Sheets - 1B 6. Andrew Vaughn - LF 7. Leury Garcia - 2B 8. Adam Haseley - CF 9. Danny Mendick - 3B
  5. This will go down as the biggest agent/player miscalculation of all time. First he turns a long term deal with Mets for about $100mm then turns down QO of $18.4mm.
  6. There would be a problem making first base flatter: the first baseman has to be able to find it by feel. As to coasting to the ball: it's about playing smart and knowing the game score and situation. If you're losing 7-0 you should never dive.
  7. MLBTR update: Michael Conforto Undergoes Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery By Mark Polishuk | April 23, 2022 at 10:28pm CDT Michael Conforto underwent surgery on his right shoulder earlier this week, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports (via Twitter). Conforto will be sidelined for the entire 2022 season but is expected to be ready for Spring Training
  8. MLBTR had article. This is a legit "they". https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/04/latest-on-michael-conforto-2.html
  9. Slightly off topic. New article on MLBTR: CONFORTO STILL NOT THROWING - ". Mike Puma of the New York Post relays that the shoulder injury was significant enough that surgery was considered, although Conforto opted to forgo that and try to let the shoulder heal. Although Puma doesn’t provide any specific diagnosis of the injury, he reports that Conforto has still not resumed throwing and even suggests it’s possible Conforto may not be able to return to the field at all this season.
  10. MLB Network ranks him as the #1 catcher in the AL -- both for this season and last year https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-network-top-10-at-each-position-in-2022 1. J.T. Realmuto, PHI (Last year: 1) 2. Yasmani Grandal, CWS (2) 3. Will Smith, LAD (3) 4. Willson Contreras, CHC (4) 5. Salvador Perez, KC (7) 6. Mitch Garver, TEX (9) 7. Sean Murphy, OAK (5) 8. Jacob Stallings, MIA (Not ranked) 9. Mike Zunino, TB (NR) 10. Carson Kelly, ARI (NR)
  11. Pollock's career splits are almost as good vs. RH pitching as left (just less power) vs. RH: 279/338/464/802 vs.LH: 285/338/572/859
  12. Very cold weather will keep the ball in the park. As long as Keuchel throws strikes, he could be okay.
  13. About vs. right handed pitching. There are some reasons to think it will get better: Grandal is off to his usual slow start; Moncada is out; Pollock is out and his career splits are almost as good vs. RH pitching as left (just less power) Pollack vs. RH: 279/338/464/802 vs.LH: 285/338/572/859
  14. Need to get first round bye. The two division winners with best record get byes. The third division winner plays first round with 3 wildcards teams
  15. Barring other injuries, when Moncada and Pollock come back, either Burger or Sheets will be sent down, (along with Mendick)
  16. In 2 weeks, the roster has to go down to 26. Who goes and who stays. The good news is that with more depth than in the past, this is harder to do. CATCHERS: Current=2; Goal=2: Grandal, McGuire OTHER POSITION: Current=11 + 2 on IL; Goal=11; Soon as Pollack and Moncada come off IL, two have to go. Assumed roster locks: Pollack, Moncada, Abreu, TA, Harrison, Robert, Jimenez, Leury 2 of these 5 have to go: AV, Burger, Engel, Mendick, Sheets It looks like Burger or Sheets will go (along with Mendick) PITCHERS: can only keep 13 out of 20 current 15 + 4 on IL (Giolito, Kelly, Lynn, Burr) + 1 Potential (Cueto) Excluding Lynn and Burr for now, that's 18 for 13 spots . Assume: Giolito and Kelly available May 1st; Cuerto decision contract required by 5/15. Roster locks: Giolito, Cease, Kopeck, Keuchel, Hendricks, Graveman, Kelly, Bummer Only 3 of these 10 can stay -7 have to go: Cueto, Banks, Crick, Foster, Lambert, Reylo, Ruiz, Severino, Sousa, Velasquez For the 3, it looks like to me: Reylo stays; One of Cueto/Velasquez/Lambert; One of Sousa/Severino; Banks/Crick/Foster/Ruiz all go
  17. At start of broadcast they quoted Katz as saying 90-95 pitches tonight. With lefty coming up, move made perfect sense.
  18. Leury not the only slow start: Leury 0/17; Sheets 0/11 - who never gets mentioned Both Engel 2/13 and Harrison 3/18 are below 200BA, but they make other contributions.
  19. Gambling is what made the NFL the most popular league. Seems like MLB trying to catch up the past few years.
  20. There's also a big risk with LAA payroll structure. The injury exposure is much higher than with a more spread out allocation. Last year they lost Trout. What if they have a year with two of them out. The Sox survived with time lost for Robert, Eloy, and Grandal, (and some to TA).

  22. The funny thing is when I look at AV's build, I see a catcher. At 6'0" he's a bit short to be at first and he's real solid in torso and upper legs. He clearly seems smart enough and, in another year or so, "framing" will not be an issue.
  23. Keuchel had 0 walks last night along with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings, (very nice for a non-power pitcher). Career win #100.
