Caruso had the talent. I guess he had some personality traits that held him back.

When the Sox are losing 10-1 in the 7th, I get upset. I don't wait until the final out to get upset.

A trade with BOS for Price only would be a garbage result.
Signing Keuchel as our primary SP signing would be a garbage result.
Being forced to give Ryu a 4 year deal because of poor planning and execution would be a garbage result.
Trading away key prospects or key pieces for a SP when we have tons of cash would be a garbage result.
Signing two Wood/Nova types on one year deals and extinguishing the 2020 season before it begins despite us having suffered for years and been told lies about spending would be a garbage result.
I will be absolutely SEETHING if any of these 5 things come to pass.
you might want to start a meditation practice now.

Just thinking...the Sox welcomed Korean "Babe Ruth" Man Soo Lee to the org in the 80s/90s? But have never signed a Korean player have they? This org is just odd.

Reinsdorf cries poor.
The group that owns the Sox can compete with anyone.
But they are not sportsmen.
This is pretty much all there is to say about the situation.

It's like going to the High School dance and not dancing with any of the girls. "None of them were pretty enough for me." Maybe the problem is you.

But then they'll b**** down the road when Wheeler turns into a garbage contract.
Nobody will be b****ing if the Sox go to the World Series. I assume that's what we're trying to do. Or not.

Come on. I've seen posts like this a couple times recently, and it's ridiculous. We were all thinking 5 for $110M could possibly get it done (some people were even saying anything more than $105/$110 would make it a bad deal) The Sox offered 5 for $125. It's easy to judge in hindsight, but that is a great offer. What did you want them to offer? 6 years for $180M?
I don't care what they offer him. They need a #2 starter. I'm not wedded to Wheeler, but apparently the Sox were.
-
The reality is if you wanted Wheeler that badly make him an offer he can't refuse.

Encarnacion has hit 30 homers for 8 straight years and posted an .875 OPS last year. Of course I'd love to have him.

This is why it is stupid to not go for it now.

With two starting pitchers added there was absolutely no reason they couldn’t battle for the division.

Why does Sox ownership and management refuse to bring in pitching? Where did all of the money go that was never spent by maintaining low payrolls for all of these rebuild years and after missing out in Machado last year?
Profits are passed through to the limited partners annually. It is gone now.

Oh, I forgot Covey was actually our #4 starter. nevermind.

Here's a list of starting pitchers still available; the ones who have been bolded are better than Dylan Covey:
I think some of those guys are deceased. Though still may be better than Covey.

The market is rapidly running out of FA starters that are better than Dylan Covey.

Is there any chance Ivan Nova might be willing to pitch for us? Assuming we pay him a 10% premium?

Exactly...that's the game in FA...Have to get proper value or steals
No, the game in FA is you pay through the nose because you have a desperate need.

Suggestion from Athletic that Mazara was not totally on board with coaching his approach to the game. We assume Menechino had some input? Avi might be a nice complement to Mazara if none of the big guns are brought in or is it bought in.
This whole situation would make a lot more sense if someone in the Sox org had a strong view that they had some specific solution that would make him a much better player.
Remember like when Walt Hriniak was going to do wonders for Cory Snyder.

Well we won 72 last year and added Grandal and Mazara. I figure we should be good for about 95 wins this year.

The logic isn't wrong. If you're not going for it now, why waste those years of control?

Yeah my top offer for Keuchel would be 3/45. Bumgarner 3/50 or 4/65. Ryu 3/60. Those are about my happy limits for those 4.
Are you in some way related to Dylan Covey?

To me you sign a reliable guy like Keuchel who is durable and can eat a lot of innings. Then go a little more on the upside/risk side with your second guy with Wood.
Then you have potentially 6-7 available starters at various points of the season which will help with injuries, innings limits, etc.
1. Gio
2. Keuchel
3. Cease
4. Wood
5. Lopez
6. Kopech
7. Rodon at some point?
This is exactly what I would do given where we stand today.

No complaints here. Better than Covey as your 5th/6th starter.
