  1. Absolutely. Using present tense implied it was today (which obviously made no sense, but that's neither here nor there)
  2. That Spanish reporter replied to a tweet that Harper at GRF was last Thursday with Thome. Not today.
  3. Ya, they have not only expressed interest, but kind of exuded confidence about landing a big fish. They have set the expectations high for this free agency.
  4. The link itself has a pretty decent summary of what I imagine the article says.
  5. Ya, the opt-outs only benefit the players. If you see a better opportunity, whether it be money, team, etc., they exercise their opt-out and become free agents again. If they don't see that opportunity, they don't exercise the opt-out.
  6. MLB Pipeline's Top 50 2019 Draft prospects is out: 1. Rutschman 2. Witt 3. Vaughn. 1-2 are no surprise, but Vaughn at 3 is. Interestingly, MLB Pipeline puts a 60 grade on all three, meaning they are relatively close in terms of status. They see Vaughn at firstbase only, but note he is very solid there. The funny thing will be to see this list in six months, as I am sure the top 10 will be very different.
  7. I think Yahoo will fix this because it could be an absurd advantage for the team that claims him (I am attempting to do so but have a very low priority among playoff teams, so not likely that I get him).
  8. I mean Savala has A LOT to improve on if he's going to be an ML catcher. Narvaez was not special, but he had just come off a 2.1 WAR year (in still limited playing time), has been improving every year and had FOUR years of control. And we got a decent reliever with two years of control? Bad bad trade, IMO.
  9. Because of one mock draft by some random guy named Nick Shnider?
  10. Ya, the Bears should win, but it's the NFL. Giants, for all their warts, still have a top 5 WR in the NFL, a top 5 RB and Eli is actually playing pretty decent. They've beaten the Texans, played competitively against the Saints, lost close ones to Carolina, Atlanta, Washington and Philly (last week). They might be 3-8, but they are not that bad. If Mitch really just has a shoulder bruise (meaning it cannot get worse), he needs to be out there.
  11. Was there some big move that could have been made that Hahn failed to? Where is Theo at?
  12. Rams-Saints NFC Championship game is gonna be something.
  13. And who knows how much those inside the organization actually believe it. What they say in public does not always demonstrate how they really feel.
  14. This. I will say at least that Dosunmu looks legit and might be that player to carry Illinois at least back to the NCAA Tournament.
  15. If the Yankees REALLY WANT him, the Sox have no shot. NY gives Machado a better chance to win, more marketability and more money.
  16. Especially in the advanced metric era where a low batting average can be compensated for well with a high walk rate and power. When that is present in a player who can play CF at an above-average level, that player should project well.
  17. This is pretty much my feelings. Manny is an elite player, but not a household name. Bryce Harper can be an elite player (was not this year), and is a household name.
  18. Except one does give management the excuse of "we tried really really hard and made a very strong offer."
  19. I know Leonard Floyd broke his hand in preseason, but he has been brutal this year. Hasn't sniffed the QB it seems on the pass rush and has not been great in coverage (granted my most recent watching came when he was utterly abused by James White, which many a linebacker has had happen)
  20. Also, the FIRE movement has coincided (not coincidentally) with a bull market. What happens in a bear market? A lot these FIRE people may not be able to achieve the same financial independence when they are not getting huge returns.
  21. I am in a league where we have kickers and reward longer field goals (3 for anything 39 or less, 4 for 40-49, 5 for 50 and over). Jason Myers of the Jets scored 27 points by himself this week (no one had him, though). It's ridiculous to reward kickers so much in fantasy. Zurlein last year was winning many weeks for teams. I've proposed eliminating them or at the least removing the additional points for longer FGs. No one is willing to do either.
  22. Kush has been pretty bad this year (according to PFF). Hope Daniels take his spot in the starting lineup.
  23. It's going to be a long road until this is all settled. I work as a career law clerk for one of the appellate court justices in Illinois (Cook County), and it will be at least 18 months until this is all settled. He likely won't even be sentenced for several months. It's also very possible his appeal comes before my boss.
