  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) With the veterans we brought in, we need less prospects to hit then we did in 2013 and 2014. These veteran hitters aren't exactly crushing it. And they're in their declining years. Still way too many holes to trade young players. The 2 guys who are likeliest to go for a vet, if KW is negotiating, are the 2 Johnsons, plus a couple of our better A ball pitchers. Pass.
  2. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) If Puig came to the sox I don't think he would be a problem at all. Abreu and Alexei will get him in line and keep him there Alexei can't keep himself in line on the field too much of the time.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) The White Sox were ordered by JR to try to get competitive this season. That is documented when the article about the dinner came up. I am not a KW fan, but he actually did make many nice moves. Not every move he made was horrible. If you consider the White Sox a mess (which I don't) Rick Hahn has his fingerprints over it as well. He did make some nice moves - but his percentage isn't good, especially 2009-2012. And his best moves have been when he wasn't trying to change the world.... like Chris Carter for Carlos Quentin. The farm is a heck of a lot better now than it has been.... KW prob deserves a lot of credit (as well as a lot of blame for the poor farm for many years).
  4. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) This really tempers my excitement about dealing with the Jays. Reid-Foley and Pentecost are still there, but would the Jays really unload that many good prospects in the same week? The smaller their supply, the less likely they would be to agree to overpay, which is what it may take to pry Shark on a surging Sox club. They may - honestly this looks like AA taking his last stand. and they gave up, what, one top 100 prospect for Tulo? Around here, people want to give up far more than that for players inferior to him. QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 01:49 AM) Would you trade Rodon+Shark for Tulo? You mean twice+ what the Jays gave up? Good lord.
  5. Nice outing for Jordan Guerrero. He has stumbled some in high A, but he's hung in there and my be pulling to all together after annihilating low A.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) Hahn knew what he was getting into, and had plenty of opportunities to leave. It still is mind boggling every White Sox decision that is deemed wrong is KW, and so many think Hahn will always do the right thing. Nothing mind-boggling about it. As GM, Kenny Williams has a long history of poor value trades, poor evaluation of even veteran players, and a decade of poor drafts. But most of all, there was never a consistent plan. Overapy for a vet - then give him away.No consistency. And it was when the flows from the 1988-2000 drafts expired, he had no more prospects to trade for veterans, and the losing records began to accumulate. The 2013 winter looked nothing like what Kenny Williams had done in his tenure...thus credit or blame to Hahn, however you see it. 2014....back to the philosophies of Williams.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) Now if you can move Shark to Toronto for a bat, that could be interesting. But you do so realizing you are fortifying one of your main competitors down the stretch. Question is, if they are going to move on an SP anyways, it may be wise to improve your own chances in the process. Except the Sox could do it with a different team. On the other hand, by fortifying toronto, that helps them beat the Twins, Orioles and Rays. I guess the Sox may get a bat...if so, I hope it's for Shark and not for the usual KW price.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:38 AM) So if he trades Anderson, Montas, and Adams in his quest to go for it. Its all good. If it's for Trout, yes it is. If it's for his usual gaggle of declining veterans and fallen heroes.....not so much. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:43 AM) no offense and i am not being a smart arse..... but that goes back to the owners. No smart arse taken....you're right and everything goes back to the owners (although Williams can do better than he has - he just needs a long term plan and stop getting all goo goo over some veteran he likes).
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:36 AM) but on his resume, he got the sox their 1 world series in how many yrs???? no pls do not take this as i am a kw supporter, which i am not and have not since the late 90's. I thank him for that, but we underachieved from 2001-2004 and we've been basically dreadful since 2009. A lot of it was due to poor talent evaluation and his trade negotiation skills, which have been near inept at times. In the end, he's given us 2 playoff teams in his 15 year tenure. Thanks for the WS, but it's time to step aside.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:34 AM) You sound like Balta now. Actually if you correct for moving from the NL to the AL (two less at-bats from pitchers), and also moving from the AL West to the AL Central...his performance is pretty much in line with expectations, especially if you take away April (like with Eaton and Melky) and follow the general trendline for those three. He's also pitching longer into games, which is important in terms of resting tired bullpens in the dog days of August. The AL West was very good last year, certainly better than the Central was. Pitching deep into games is helping us this year...but just not a sufficient trait to want to sign him long term.
  11. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:33 AM) Dodgers are trying to trade Guerrero, any interest? He's a FA if traded; Sox could use him. Swap Shark for him, but the Dodgers would have to either pick up Laroche or hand over a good prospect. Certainly don't give up a prospect for Guerrero.
  12. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:55 PM) Deals for Shark to TOR and SF in place. The deals are sitting there. KW is still "all in" on '16 and Rick is not so there's that drama right now. Williams and his "all in" Williams and his grinders. Been hearing that nonsense for 6 years....and have seem the damage his moves have caused for 6 years as well. Just leave, Williams, and let Hahn build this team.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) My ideal situation is trading Q and M. Johnson for Puig, and then extending Samardzija Declining K rates from Samardzija are concerning. Overall, he hasn't been super duper this year. Dodgers seem to want to deal Puig, so wouldn't give up more than Q. While a fair deal, I would do it. Great talent, but don't trust Puig.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) I think Shark to Toronto in a deal that Sox get Hoffman with 2 others. Shark for Hoffman straight up would be a great trade for the Sox.
  15. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) I know everyone is hesitant to add NL players, but I would absolutely love to see the Sox add Carlos Gomez. Add his bat along with his defense to this team and all of the sudden, this team looks a lot more dangerous. This isn't a move I expect this front office to explore, but it's one I would seriously consider. If you could put together a package that didnt include Anderson, I say you do it. I certainly wouldn't trade top prospects for a year and a half of Carlos Gomez. He's not having a particularly good year, but I doubt there's a discount. Without a discount, that's poor value. Moves like that put this team in the hole. This would be another of the same. At this point, the Sox probably should do nothing except dump Bonifacio and bring up Micah for the bench and as a bat. Yea, you lose 6 weeks of Micah working on his D, but that's better than losing him permanently for someone's hero.
  16. We were dominated by 2 good teams, and we beat a bad team. Nothing has changed. Honestly, this continued White Flag paranoia is what is unsaleable. This ceaseless sojourn for some veteran that Kenny Williams believes is "elite" is what needs to stop.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Is it a long shot? Yes. Is it possible with a good pitching staff and an improved offense? Sure, why not. Fine Shouldn't detract from what the Sox need to do this week, nor cause the Sox to engage in any more Williams inane hero-worship.
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Another player on #HugWatch is Tony Kemp, the 2B prospect for the Astros. Luhnow just said there got another deal in the works right now and many believe they still want another pitcher. Montas and Putnam for Kemp +? Since when did Tony Kemp, all 5-6 of him (reported), become some elite prospect, such that trading one of our top prospects for him is insufficient? Pass on Kemp. I'll take Micah and Anderson. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) Just to add to speculation. I wonder if Micah Johnson would be used as part of a package in a trade for a 3B, SS or C. they can always do something like that; I hope not, as Williams and Lauman's eye for veteran talent is particularly poor. I do hope they try to stay under 28 if they must do it. But I'd also like to see Alexei moved and Micah back up. Wouldn't surprise me if they trade Micah. Thought that would happen when they sent him down.
  19. Where has this offense been? laroche Ks. Nice.
  20. Overpaying for Todd Frazier or Cano is the last thing this team needs. Too much hero worship - way too much. And they hit 30 and start crapping 0ut. You buy one of them, you use bullets that could have covered multiple positions and you're stuck some bad contract. That's not how to build a team. The team needs solid major leaguers. That should be the goal. Once you have that, THEN find a hero if that can put you over the top. Solid major leaguers are traded - Cervelli was traded for a relief pitcher; Michael Saunders would have fit perfectly with us (I realize he got hurt) and he was acquired for a 30+ year old who is as mediocre a starter as you can get.
  21. I really don't pay attention to minor league relievers until AA at the earliest. I figure most of the best talent is starting, and they'll move them to the pen in AA and AAA, as necessary.
  22. I see that Robinson Leyer is pitching for Birmingham. That's pretty aggressive promotion.
  23. He's a better player than either Beckham or Bonifacio.
  24. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) I would trade Shark and Putnam to the Yankees for J.R Murphy , Jagielo, and PTBL. Sox Front office have been a fan of Murphy in the past and is major league ready which is what Hahn is looking for. Also PTBL can be determined based on how far the Yankees go in the playoffs. Have some upside to this deal. Not my cup of tea but clearly better than a comp pick Re Trey M, 2017 at the earliest.
