  1. They should develop him as a starter and trade him July 2025. But if they are inane enough to put him in the bullpen, yes we should trade him as soon as possible.
  2. Catcher should be Korey Lee and either Maldonado or Stassi. Lee was fine behind the plate last year; Yea, he batted .100, but that's probably sample-size driven. I think the Sox can count on him for at least .190 or .200 this season.
  3. Same approach the Sox are taking - we're letting our veterans walk. The difference is that the Sox are replacing them with more decrepit veterans.
  4. Re other totals, baseball totals is the one sport I like playing unders. My lock is St Louis under 85.5. They won't be any better. I wonder if I can find some odds that they go under 70. Seattle got worse over the offseason. Under 86.5.
  5. i hope he keeps that up an doesn't even tempt Pedro to keep him around.
  6. We didn't have any young middle infielders ready to go; so I get signing DeJong; and even trading for Lopez (although he's tougher to "get"). I get wanting to avoid a "scorched earth" 50 win team. That doesn't do anybody any good. But signing Maldanado (we already had 2 defensive catchers), and then Moustakas, when we should be going for roster flexibility, and then listening to Pedro talk about expecting players to hit well because they have "done it before" just makes me wonder if there is a plan. Maybe this particular trade for Horn makes sense; but in general, trading for relievers, trading away young prospects who don't need to be 40-manned, is pretty much the opposite of what a team in this position should be doing.
  7. And this guy just blew way JR and the entire FO during his interview. Editors Note: blew Away
  8. They just keep doing this. Helping other teams with their 40 man crunch.
  9. One thing that has struck me about all 3 of these trades is that the Sox, despite being the team that is rebuilding, sent away the only real prospect of the bunch. We didn't make any of the teams we traded with feel paid or trepidation. Instead we he helped them relieve their 40-man crunches, and those that weren't on the 40 man were really 3rd tier guys. A lot of volume, and hopefully some of it works out.
  10. Nightengale Law's write-up on Jones, who is not in his top 100, makes him seem like the next Palka.
  11. I guess Elko is pegged as a AAA guy, but he sure has a smooth swing.
  12. As a proud member of the 2024 Optimist Club, and my optimism is all despite Pedro. Really, I haven't read a single post that suggests Pedro will help things. The only move that I consider a negative, more in what it portends than what it is, is the signing of Moustakas.
  13. Harping on the lack of a $100M contract is a bit on the form-over-substance side. JR has still spent in the upper quartile multiple times. The Pirates' (and others') owners have not. They did offer Wheeler over 100M. And as clownish has Hahn's pursuit of Machado was, they did offer him over 100M (that dog and pony show said a lot more about Hahn than it did JR). The problem has been the FO's poor use of resources provided. While Getz is in the same lineage as KW and his sidekick Hahn, at least he doesn't have them looking over his shoulder. Now if those resources have been permanently ratcheted down, that's another story.

I've enjoyed his interesting tweets, but I thought he was just a fan. Is he a media person or something? Never mind; I confused him with Jay Cuda.
  15. I'm intrigued by the possibilities of our starting pitching. Kopech has a TOR arm, was pretty good 2 years ago, and is on the same timeline as Cease. Soroka was a TOR guy, supposedly healthy. 1 year left on deal. Crochet has a rocket arm; hope he gets a real opportunity. Fredde is not at that level, but it will be interesting to see if his improvement sticks. If all goes well, we will have a strong staff. If only some goes well, we'll at least have strong trade capital in July.

For every NRI they add, there's a Scholtens or Tim Hill they can let go. They shouldn't have to touch any in that you mentioned (maybe Romy).
  17. What value does a backup third baseman bring to a roster. Using a roster spot for Pedro's chemistry.
  18. I never read Harry Potter. Perhaps that's a primer to full appreciation of talking gargoyles and angels dancing on the heads of pins.
  19. One quibble with Mr Law. His favorite book "Jonathan Strange...." was unreadable. I threw in the towel at 100 pages. I have enjoyed other of his book recommendations.
  20. I would think that if the Orioles asked again about Cease, it's with a substantially stronger offer than before.
