Has Baltimore’s offer for Cease been leaked somewhere or are people just assuming they know what the offer was based on the return for Burnes?

It seemed consistent with what the Oriole trolls were determining. The players they were adamant were not being moved, versus on the table, translated pretty much exactly to what Burnes cost.

A potential injury isn’t the only risk. There’s also the risk of poor performance. We all think about his 2022 season and feel like he can get back to something closer to that, but the truth is nobody knows.

    Calculated risk still holds true

  3. I’d prefer to reset offers for Cease at the deadline or even next year. The point is that an offer like Ortiz and Hall may be adequate for 1 year of Cease, although that’s certainly argumentative. To suggest Getz should take that for 2 years of Cease, because of the risk of his arm falling off, doesn’t make sense to me. It’s a risk but a calculated one.

I think I like this trade now.  Getz basically wins the trade pretty easily and Arizona is totally okay with that.  They are fine gambling on a chance to REALLY win the trade down the line because harnessing some pitching will be way more valuable.  But it’s risky.  Getz gets the safe win, for now.

We might have a real RFer for his whole prime cheap.  I’m okay with this.  It’s only been since Mags

    This but with Jermaine Dye

I think your expectations may be too high then.  The Sox are trading 2 years of control of what some people don’t think is an ace.  I think it’s fair to at least call Cease a very good #2 starter right now with ace potential.  If the Sox get 6 years of a #3 starter back for 2 years of a #2 starter, how much more talent should the Sox get back along with that starter?

Guys like Woo and Miller are now considered to be proven mid rotation MLB starters.  If you want a large return, you would have to forego these guys and go for an all prospect return.

There’s a far cry from a known #2 with 2 years control and hopefully, maybe #3 with 6 years of control.

But your ranking is your opinion. For example, (I edited) you mentioned the Rays. You may prefer their talent but it’s absurd to say Bradley or Baz are better than Kremer. There is no evidence that shows that to be true.

They may end up better and I would rather take a chance on their talent compared to Kremer but saying they are currently better is just flat out wrong.

“But your ranking is your opinion… but saying they are currently better is just flat out wrong.”

Example 4,378 of discounting others’ arguments as opinion but yours as fact.

You're right, we don't. You can use common sense and history to tell you that a durable SP that is cheap and under control for 2 more seasons with Cy Young potential doesn't get the cold shoulder when put on the market.

The only reasonable explanation, or assumption, at this point is that the asking price by Getz is probably outside of the realm of reality at this time.

History also suggests Cy Young winners sign by now as well. Is Snell’s camp asking an absurd amount? Or is it another example of buyers trying to reset the market precedence?

I can recall seeing posters who know people as well as articles posted in this thread that have said the Sox asking price is sky high on this.

I think no one has met the price because the price is absurd. I just don't see a reality where no one has offered the Sox a fair trade package, there is obviously something else that has prevented this from getting done by now.

Speculative, we don’t know what’s been offered.

Cease isn’t the only pitcher he can acquire that makes us better. So, his failure isn’t that he doesn’t get Cease. It’s that he doesn’t add a guy who could be a difference making playoff talent.

True, but based on your logic, his offers suck for those options as well. I mean, it hasn’t happened, so therefore he is lowballing those potential deals.

Jones isn’t on the table apparently. Your hopes and dreams that he is doesn’t make it so.

If Getz wants to risk Cease for another several months, have at it.  It’s a decision that could pay off but it’s also a huge potential problem but hey, have at it if that’s the risk you want to take. Elias won’t bid against himself because he’s not a moron.

Getz would be equally smart to gamble on Cease than to accept a weak offer. Even if it doesn’t pan out, it’s the right move.

No one with any intelligence is saying Ortiz should be able to headline the deal.

Ortiz is a fine second piece for 1 year of Cease. Cease with 2 years essentially makes Ortiz the headliner for the second year. Not good enough.

Are you serious?  Are you really going to say that me (or any other Os fan) is Getting offended by the sticker price?  You guys have done nothing but b**** and moan over us saying certain guys wouldn’t be available or whatever.  You are 100% taking this personal.

As for what the WS are asking for, I could give a sh!t. Getz is doing everything correctly right now. But what they ask for now and before now is irrelevant because it’s not a deal that will happen. I know this because it would happen.

So no, as someone who has had businesses that buys and sells stuff on a daily basis, I am the furthest person from being “angry” about any request.  There is not one person involved in any of these negotiations that is doing anything wrong.

That might’ve been good to preface on page 37 as opposed to 204

But isn’t that point?  Isn’t this what has been said over and over?  That Getz has demands that are too high and won’t be met?

People have basically said that’s absurd.

And the other teams are too low and won’t be met. Circular argument

I disagree.  I don’t think Getz is going to get his initial ask (which was likely massive), and I also don’t think he wants to play with fire and watch Cease potentially get injured before the trade deadline.

Initial ask and what he wants aren’t likely the same package

I think both are pretty obvious.

I mean, what info do we have on how hard the Yankees are pushing for him?  Your best insider in here said they are getting more aggressive but we have zero idea what that actually means. That could mean lots of things.

In terms of the demands from the WS, as I have said a bunch of times, if teams were meeting their demands, a deal would be done.

I would wager that basically every single trade, especially for a major piece, has gone this same way…trading team asks for more than the market will pay, buyers offering lower than seller will take..eventually the seller and one buyer move on their requests and a deal is struck.  It’s just how negotiation works.

What I think is obvious is there are a lot of assumptions being built around a preferred narrative.

It’s obvious it makes sense that they are in on starting pitching…but it’s not obvious that they are in on any single player and if it’s a trade, it’s not obvious how all in they are.

I mean, if it’s actually true that the Yankees think Cease isn’t being dealt, it tells you that they think the WS aren’t getting the deal they want…which goes back to what I and other have been saying that the high end prospect (and other stuff) is just not on the table for Cease.

I don’t particular think Cease will be a White Sox on OD but I do think Getz has to change his demands for a trade to happen. Teams aren’t going to come up to his request.

So in conclusion, we have no idea what the Yankees are doing. But we know the White Sox should lower their demands so they can trade Cease by OD?
