9/8 GT: Sox @ Detroit - 6:05pm CDT - CSN+

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) Teahen equals yuck. Seriously, how is this team contending? Man we have some mediocre baseball players on this team. Teahen hasn't been too bad since returning. And every team has some mediocre players. The Sox have a lot of talent, but they need to put it all together...right now. Just like during the big run back in June and July. -
Looking forward to Terriers tonight.

QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) I missed the game yesterday...how was Infante? Did he show that upper-90's pop on his fastball? He was better than Torres, but that's not saying much. I liked the way he looked. The plate was jumping around a bit, but the fastball looked good.

QUOTE (shrek @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 11:11 AM) I know the Thome thing has been talked to to death, but you can't overlook the close ball games he won for the Twins and his great production. Having his production on our team, minus his production on the twins, the division race would be closer. And if Konerko needed rest every now and then, you put Teahen at 1st base. If this division comes down to a game or two, blame needs to be put on Ozzie. He single handedly handcuffed this team for a good portion of the season and allowed the Twins to get a very productive player for a cheap amount. And it was a damn good post!

QUOTE (Willy52 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) Why don't you people admit that they're the better team? They're in first without Morneau. Pretty damn impressive. They beat up on the division unlike us. We're not catching them. End of story. I agree that the Twins are a better team. But, it's far from over. A four game slide by the Twins (which is not out of the realm of possibility) along with a 3-1 or 4-0 run by the Sox anytime over the next two weeks changes things a lot. A win by the Sox tonight and loss by the Twins changes things. It's not over until either the Twins or the Sox eliminate the other team. Like someone pointed out, there's 24 games left and the Twins magic number is 20. Let's watch for a while and see what happens. -

QUOTE (quade36 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:31 AM) Twins won't lose They'll have to lose eventually... -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) So I jsut caught about 3/4 of the show. Oh. my. god. Im going to be rusty on names so feel free to correct me/fill in names where I forgot. But, Im a bit rusty from last season, but jeez this season may top last season which was one of the best seasons of a show ever IMO.

Gotta come back and get the last two. And hope the Twins lose one...
-
This is not what we needed to see right now. What an implosion.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Mayor Manny??? Dreadlocks for all!

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Greg got mad and up in arms because people were booing him when he was having the bad year. Greg cannot accept that a player can be booed, because this must mean that the boo-er is saying that they hate the player, not the performance. Hence, everyone on Soxtalk "brutalized" Konerko except for greg. People were booing Konerko or were booing Greg? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Teahen is 4/29 career against Verlander. Man...there's no way to win this one is there. Can Castro play 1b? He's at least 1/3 career against him. Probably, but with our luck he'd get hurt.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) I'd still give Bobby a C or B- for the season. He's not been as bad as some say. I actually agree with you here. He has not been horrible overall, he's just had a few horrible outings. He's also had some great outings. It was his lack of consistency that really hurt, and what made me throw things at my TV.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Actually the Ozzie haters might hope Thome does brutalize us and we still win the three games. Ozzie seems pretty sensitive over the Thome issue and he might have a blowup of epic proportions in the media if Thome has 3 big games and he keeps getting asked about it. When Oz blows up, there's always the risk he'll do something that'll finally get him fired which would please oh, so many on here for some reason. Eh, I don't think Ozzie will lose it even if Thome has a big series. I think many people are over the whole thing by now, especially since we have Manny now. Thome's having a good year, but there's no telling he would have had the same type of season with the Sox. I think Ozzie's job is secure as long as he wants it, and as long as the Sox keep winning, who could really ask for his firing? If the Sox miss out on the division and the WC and still have 92 or 93 wins, could anyone justify firing Ozzie?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Good post Jerk. Lots of people brutalized Thome on here last year. They just won't admit it now. Thome is their way of having ammo to get rid of Ozzie, which is the real issue for some. Fire the manager is always the easy way out. Wait til we're 16 below .500 some year. Wow are they gonna be wanting Ozzie out then. And it ain't over yet. You better believe Thome is going to want to have another big series vs. the Sox in the Cell. Actually it wasn't a good post. I see the point that many people wanted Thome gone last season, and he did have a down year. But to say his time as a White Sox was meaningless is just not valid. A .933 OPS, 130+ HRs, and 370+ RBIs in a little less than 4 seaons is not meaningless. And if this team is 16 below .500 some year, then the manager should definitely be on the hot seat.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) He will be recharged from his short outing last time on the bump. Yeah, he'll need to sweat double tonight.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) Wow. I had to go back and figure out what this was all about. I have to agree. Wow, what a terrible post. In his time here, Thome batted .265 with a .391 OBP and a .933 OPS. Along with that, he hit 134 HRs, 88 2Bs, and knocked in 369. Sure, there were cringe-worthy moments, but that goes for almost every player at one time or another. I'm not saying Thome would have made a huge difference for us this year, but to say he was useless or meaningless to this team for his time here? Come on.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) So it's better to be dishonest with yourself and think we have a huge chance of winning the central? If we win the division it's going to take a massively impressive strong run people talk about sweeping the twins like it'll be (1) easy (2) the only necessary step I think what Sqwert was alluding to was the other poster's saying that winning the central is impossible. It's not impossible. And you're right it will take an impressive run, but it'll take just as impressive a run to win the wild card. Regardless of how well the the Sox play, the Twins and/or the Rays need to lose games as well. There's a 2.5 game difference between the divsion and the WC. Both the Twins and Rays are good teams. Mathematically, it's more likely that the Sox win the division than the WC. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) I think we have a much better shot at WC. No way in hell KC wins one of the four in Minnie. Actually, the chances that the Twins sweep are less than if the Royals win one. And regardless of the teams, there's a better chance of making up 3.5 games than making up 6 games. -
It would be hard not to be in right now. If only those pesky Twins would lose a game or two! Oddly enough, I'm sure Twins fans are saying the same thing about the Sox.
-
Whichever team wins the AL Central will most likely have 93+ wins. I don't think many of us would have expected that at the beginning of the season. If the Sox play just above .500 ball the rest of the way (13 wins out of 25 games), they'll have 90 wins. And that probably won't be enough for the division or the wild card. The team's horrible start really makes me think of how much different it would look right now had they played even moderately better. Regardless of what happens, the next few weeks are going to be exciting, frustrating, and nail-biting.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:40 AM) I consider the Central lost. It's WC or bust, baby. Go Sox for the WC. You're a strange fella, Greg. 3.5 games is less than 6 games. We have to concentrate on the division first. If the WC happens, that's fine. But, keep winning games, that's all we can ask for now.

Manny is showing that he can still hit. His ground out in his second at bat was perfect to move Konerko. Nice game by Danks and Jenks!
