  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Good post Jerk. Lots of people brutalized Thome on here last year. They just won't admit it now. Thome is their way of having ammo to get rid of Ozzie, which is the real issue for some. Fire the manager is always the easy way out. Wait til we're 16 below .500 some year. Wow are they gonna be wanting Ozzie out then. And it ain't over yet. You better believe Thome is going to want to have another big series vs. the Sox in the Cell. Actually it wasn't a good post. I see the point that many people wanted Thome gone last season, and he did have a down year. But to say his time as a White Sox was meaningless is just not valid. A .933 OPS, 130+ HRs, and 370+ RBIs in a little less than 4 seaons is not meaningless. And if this team is 16 below .500 some year, then the manager should definitely be on the hot seat.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) He will be recharged from his short outing last time on the bump. Yeah, he'll need to sweat double tonight.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) Wow. I had to go back and figure out what this was all about. I have to agree. Wow, what a terrible post. In his time here, Thome batted .265 with a .391 OBP and a .933 OPS. Along with that, he hit 134 HRs, 88 2Bs, and knocked in 369. Sure, there were cringe-worthy moments, but that goes for almost every player at one time or another. I'm not saying Thome would have made a huge difference for us this year, but to say he was useless or meaningless to this team for his time here? Come on.
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) So it's better to be dishonest with yourself and think we have a huge chance of winning the central? If we win the division it's going to take a massively impressive strong run people talk about sweeping the twins like it'll be (1) easy (2) the only necessary step I think what Sqwert was alluding to was the other poster's saying that winning the central is impossible. It's not impossible. And you're right it will take an impressive run, but it'll take just as impressive a run to win the wild card. Regardless of how well the the Sox play, the Twins and/or the Rays need to lose games as well. There's a 2.5 game difference between the divsion and the WC. Both the Twins and Rays are good teams. Mathematically, it's more likely that the Sox win the division than the WC.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) I think we have a much better shot at WC. No way in hell KC wins one of the four in Minnie. Actually, the chances that the Twins sweep are less than if the Royals win one. And regardless of the teams, there's a better chance of making up 3.5 games than making up 6 games.
  6. It would be hard not to be in right now. If only those pesky Twins would lose a game or two! Oddly enough, I'm sure Twins fans are saying the same thing about the Sox.
  7. Whichever team wins the AL Central will most likely have 93+ wins. I don't think many of us would have expected that at the beginning of the season. If the Sox play just above .500 ball the rest of the way (13 wins out of 25 games), they'll have 90 wins. And that probably won't be enough for the division or the wild card. The team's horrible start really makes me think of how much different it would look right now had they played even moderately better. Regardless of what happens, the next few weeks are going to be exciting, frustrating, and nail-biting.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:40 AM) I consider the Central lost. It's WC or bust, baby. Go Sox for the WC. You're a strange fella, Greg. 3.5 games is less than 6 games. We have to concentrate on the division first. If the WC happens, that's fine. But, keep winning games, that's all we can ask for now.
  9. Manny is showing that he can still hit. His ground out in his second at bat was perfect to move Konerko. Nice game by Danks and Jenks!
  10. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Is Joe West anywhere near Boston? If so, he better jam that cowboy hat down tight on his large noggin.
  11. The hurricane is forecasted to be off the Mass. coast Friday night and should be long gone by Saturday. I would bet tomorrow's game is postponed, but Saturday should be fine.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) Why? Earl is forecasted to be right off the New England coast Friday night.
  13. On SportsCenter last night, they actually said Paulie should be considered for the AL MVP because of clutch homeruns like yesterday's.
  14. I would think he'll be back with a 2 year deal worth around $8 million a year. He could probably play a good 1st base for at least another season, then he could be a good DH. In my opinion, the only way the Sox don't try hard to re-sign him is if they somehow acquire Fielder or Gonzalez. And with Fielder, there would almost have to be a extension.
  15. I would assume tomorrow's game in Boston will be postponed. But I haven't seen anything yet.
  16. Eh, I wouldn't say Ozzie is keeping the Sox in the race. It's the players, especially Konerko, Rios, Jackson, Sale, and even Pierre now. And the lack of a bullpen has been a recent development. Remember that the bullpen was quite good for a while. I think the wear on the guys is finally showing.
  17. I'd like to see Paulie back here next year, and for a few years for that matter. Looking at his HR numbers, I would think he would need about 5 more years for 500 HRs. I wonder if he'd make it. I would think it would be possible, especially if he transitioned to a DH.
  18. QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Not sure...but if he comes to ST "in the best shape of his life" and we continue to have 4+ guys who's "versatility can't be replaced" then it won't matter if we only get 100 games out of him. I'd rather him hit .240 with the same power numbers as Quentin so we could at least have someone in right who looks like he's ever seen a fly ball. Agree. His defense is leaps and bounds above Q's.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) When's the last time a pennant contender relied on two relievers with as little experience pitching in the minors as Santos and Sale? September 1st, 2010.
  20. What's the score, 6-4? Save opportunity for Sale!
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) I'm just worried about September for now. Carlos looks lost at the plate and on the field. He's defintely lost in the field. I cringe every time a ball heads his way.
  22. QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) I agree. CQ being the man was a f#@$% pipe dream. We need to move on at least put someone out there with the fielding capability of a freshman in HS. How much playing time would Jones be good for? I'd take him over Q next year, but I'm not sure he could play more than 100 games.
  23. So, Manny being on deck results in two 3-run bombs. Maybe the Sox should have just hired some big guy with dreads to stand around near the on deck circle. Could have saved a few bucks.
