Do you think Manny on deck scared the pitcher a bit? He threw a hanger to AJ.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) Ladies and Gentlemen, Edwin f***ING Jackson. EFJ

Holy cow, Edwin Jackson! What did Coop do to him?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) Not if we lose a close game where Kotsay leaves 3 or 4 guys on base. Man, now I'm pissed again!

We'll probably never know the real story. It could be all Manny, all Ozzie, or them combined. Regardless, we're all frustrated, but if he starts playing tomorrow and plays well, today's game will most likely be forgotten.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) Hmmm. Manny did not give the right answer. Would love to know what Manny said and how he said it. Good for Oz making his decision based on the response. I wonder if Manny was being Manny with his response. More than likely, Manny said something that led Ozzie to believe he was tired or something of the sort. I hope he at least pinch hits tonight...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) But that flight was $57 more than the Southwest flight they made him take. And they had to use that $57 to hire the barber.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Ozzie's just f***ing with Kenny now, cause he knows Jerry will never fire him. He wants to stick with that rotating DH to the bitter end... And if that happens, Ozzie and KW should be fired. Ozzie for acting like a child and KW for not acting like a GM.

I'm baffled. I can't imagine Manny saying he doesn't want to start because he traveled this morning. I can imagine, however, Ozzie being Ozzie and playing Kotsay over him. Regardless of who's pitching for the Indians, Manny is the better choice to bat DH. When you have Manny, you don't worry about the lefty vs. righty s***.

If Manny doesn't at least come into the game late, there's something wrong with Ozzie.

The deadline for the waiver trade period is tonight at 11 PM. Do the Sox make a last minute move for a bullpen arm?
-
I like WGN's commerical saying it was time for the Sox to "Manny Up".

QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 06:36 AM) Who's going away from the roster? Kotsay is making comments like he's secure, and Lillibridge is still needed (although they could play Teahan at 2B). Peavy was placed on the 60-day DL, so I think that opened up the necessary roster spot. As far as Kotsay, I have no problem with him sticking around and being used as he should be used: PH and occasional spot start at 1st.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 07:01 PM) Wow White Sox GM Kenny Williams told reporters that he didn't claim Brian Fuentes because his team doesn't need another left-handed reliever at this point. Was that before Threets got hurt?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Great. Now I need to go run to the bathroom here at work to clean up my soiled pants. You should really bring a few extra pairs. Especially around trade deadlines.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) Actually, the article is pretty good. It actually is. And most of us have said the same thing: Manny may not get the Sox to the playoffs, but they have to try something.
-
Has anyone else noticed that this acquisition has gotten little attention? I'm sure if he was going to Boston or NY the press would be going nuts. Nothing would make me happier than having him come in and totally clean-up and help get the Sox to the post season.

Frustrating is a perfect word to describe this season. The most frustrating part of it is, like Ozzie said, if the Sox had played better against Cleveland, Baltimore, and KC they'd be in first place. The 25-5 run was awesome. The first two months of the season sucked. Paul Konerko has been incredible. Juan Pierre has been a good lead-off guy (after a bad start). Omar has been a pleasant surprise. Overall, though, I just can't get past the fact that they went into the season expecting so much out of Jones and Kotsay in the DH spot. I know that hasn't been the biggest problem, but it hasn't helped. Everything clicked together for about 30-35 games. We need that to happen again for the last 32 games. Hopefully Manny can help.
-
I expect Manny to play hard and do some damage at the plate. With only 32 games left and the change of scenery, I wouldn't expect him to quit on the team. I'm not against this move at all, and I hope he helps the Sox take over the AL Central. If, however, he does shut down and act like a bum, many of us (myself included) will be embarrassed about sticking up for the move.

08/29/10 - Yankees(Nova) Vs Sox(Floyd)

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) The Sox continue to be predictable. Predictable won't cut it. Win 2 of 3 vs the O's then lose 2 of 3 at home to New York. They blow a good starting performance today. Hope the team gets hot again. Going 3-3 vs. New York and the O's at home isn't very good when you are trying to make up ground. I hoped they would go 4-2, but I am not surprised by the 3-3. Sweeping the O's would have made losing 2 of 3 to the Yanks more tolerable. At least we have the Mariners to thank for coming through today. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) I suppose it's a possibility: BNightengale #mlb #dodgers #whitesox No matter what Dodgers decide, Manny has played final game for Dodgers. He may be in Cleveland in time for Sox game. about 1 hour ago via web and Heyman: SI_JonHeyman manny is gone, as la is done with him. appears to be pure waiver claim, where chisox just pay his salary. 13 minutes ago via web Looks like Jon Gilmore will be sticking around. I have no problem with that.

08/29/10 - Yankees(Nova) Vs Sox(Floyd)

Coming out of this series only down 4.5 games is okay. Now let's hope Manny and maybe a reliever are on their way to the Sox. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) Really, there's very little downside for the Sox. At $40 a ticket, covering that $4 million would take an extra 10,000 in ticket sales. Play around with the numbers a bit, but keep it a little closer and get the publicity and it's going to pay for itself. True. I just hope we hear something soon.

Even if the Sox lose today's game and the Twins win and the Sox are 5.5 games back, I still want to see Manny here. Until the Sox are mathematically eliminated, they should do whatever they can to make themselves better. I've said this before, whoever is eliminated (Twins or Sox), I don't think it'll be until the last week of the season.
