  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) We should all give our predictions every night. That way later we can get praised or blasted. Mine: Minnesota 11, Chicago 3. Not sure what I'll predict for the KC series. That's a series we should really truly should win, if not sweep. Sox win 6-4.
  2. Then he got under the covers and yelled "Come on, Timo! Come on, Timo, Come on, Timo!"
  3. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) It isn't from a movie, it's from the Twilight Show series. I don't recall the name of the episode, but it was with Telly Savalas. The premise is that one of his daughter's dolls comes to life, but only talks to him. It says something like, "I'm going to kill you." He, of course, is freaking out. At the end, he realizes it's probably nothing, but then he trips over it and falls down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, just before he dies, he looks over and sees the doll. The doll opens her eyes and says, "I told you." Still freaks me out to this day. Just got chills thinking about it. Just got the chills reading that.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) I know the exact feeling. I think the biggest reason football is so much more popular than any other sport is the short attention span of Americans, and more importantly, the American sports fan. I agree to a point. I know a lot of people that do not like baseball because it's "boring" or "slow". I love baseball, and I can usually sit and watch any game, provided it's not a blowout. To really enjoy a baseball game and understand a lot of what's going on, you can't have a short attention span. But, I think another reason football is so popular is because games are more like an event than other sports. There are only 16 games (aside from playoffs), and if you're a fan of one or two teams you look forward to Thursday, Sunday, or Monday each week. With baseball, your team plays almost every day. With hockey, your team plays 3 times a week. With basketball...well who cares.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) I have no idea what that expression means.
  6. M56 pitches well. The bats are lively. Sox bullpen struggles a bit. Sox win 6-4.
  7. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:53 AM) There better be some retribution on one of those games at the cell. This. Someone needs to get plunked.
  8. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:52 AM) I wish I felt your optimism. I really do. I just don't see it happening. I hope I'm wrong though. The law of averages say the Sox win tonight. That and I think the Sox are pissed off. They have to go in there tonight and think that they are going to win, think that they are going to swing the bats and get hits and score some runs, think that they are going to keep the Twins to a handful of runs at best. Dammit, it's time to beat the Twins! Now!
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:42 AM) It's time to start teasing on selling guys. AJ? You think anyone would want him?
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:45 AM) Do you really think Buehrle is going to go out tonight and beat the twins in Minnesota? Really? I do, yes. I don't know why, but I feel a win. Not a convincing win, but maybe 6-4 or 7-5.
  11. QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 06:23 AM) if we win today we are still in it. if not WE GONE I agree. There's a bit difference between 4 games back and 6 games back. Especially when you're behind a better Twins team.
  12. How long did it take you to type that post? You're right on many points. The poor play of the Sox does fall in some aspects on the managerial staff, and it starts with Ozzie. I don't know what goes through his head sometimes when he makes some of his bonehead decisions. He's extremely stubborn and often "goes with his gut" instead of relying on stats. He's a good player's manager or whatever, but you hear of too many players that won't play for him. That probably kept some free agents from signing here and enacted some no trade clauses. I'm ready for a change, and I hope KW and JR are, too. Next year's team should look quite a bit different, and that would be a good thing. Viciedo and Sale should be with the team from the beginning. Kotsay and Jones should not be with the team at all.If there's one thing KW learned, I hope it's that they have to go into the season with a guy who is going to be the DH. Will it be Quentin with a speedy, young guy in the outfield? Will it be Teahen, with Viciedo at third? Will it be Viciedo himself? Who knows. And as long as it's not Kotsay, I don't care. I don't want to say the season is over, but it's looking grim. The Twins are a better team, being steered by a better manager. And I can swallow losses to the Twins. But what really pisses me off is that the Sox blew so many chances to put the Twins down by 5, 6, or even 7 games when the Twins were losing games. Its the losses to Cleveland, Baltimore, and KC that really grind my gears. I'm not going to shake my head and shrug my shoulders with every Sox loss and pretend I don't really care. I do care. And I get angry when they lose over and over again, a lot of times due to bad baseball. There have been other discussions in other threads about who's a real fan: the fan who stays optimistic and cheers the team on no matter what or the fan who gets pissed off and rants and raves about how bad they are at times. I try to stay optimistic, but that's a very hard thing to do right now. Five games out in the middle of August when you're behind a good Twins team is not a good place to be. The Sox need to start winning right now and hope that some other teams start beating the Twins, because the Sox can't beat them.
  13. I don't see the Sox trading anybody of real value away. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jones traded, though.
  14. Thanks guys. I laughed out loud...needed that.
  15. Is anyone else really getting tired of Hawk as of late? He can't judge the distance of a fly ball at all anymore. Every semi-deep fly ball, he's yelling "stretch, stretch" and then "dagummit". Last night, he was talking so highly of Mauer you'd have thought he was his son. Every time there's a chance that a double play may get broken up and it doesn't he's grouching "dagummit". How did he react to Thome's HR last night?
  16. I'm glad I didn't see the homerun. I saw Konerko roll into the DP in the ninth before I turned it off to watch Rescue Me on my DVR. I did not have a good feeling about their chances in the bottom of the ninth or in extras against the Twins at Target Field. I saw the result on the internet and was angry enough. But, I'm not as upset as I thought I would have been. Seeing Thome's HR would have probably made me vomit, though.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) Give it a rest almighty fan. This was done in the heat of the moment in one of the most gut wrenching losses in recent years. And...I would imagine if the could have been green, it would have been.
  18. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) I'm not content...but this is a marathon, not a sprint. I'm too old to live and die with each and every game of a 162 game season. I love watching this team, win or lose, although it's more fun when they win. My point is, why are we talking about blowing up a team and an organization when the 2010 White Sox are OVERACHIEVING! Of course, I want to see them win every year...but that doesn't happen to any team. Ever. I come into every season hoping that the Sox will win the World Series. And at the end of the season, there are always games that you can point to and say, "That was a big win/loss." But to praise and/or rip this team daily is just going to give you unneeded stress. It's a game. It's fun. It's icing on the cake of life. 2005 was a fantastic year. I'll never forget it. But so was '85, '91-'93, '96-'98 and '09-'10. But in the grand scheme...I'll take my wedding and birth of my two kids over any of those. I'm not Kenny Williams, Ozzie Guillen or any member of the White Sox organization...so I have nothing invested in this other than to enjoy the ride. So keep your insults about being a Cub fan. Good points. Imagine being a Pirates fan, when you know before the season starts that your team will not make the playoffs. However, I think a lot of the frustration we're seeing here is because the Sox playing miserably against the Twins is an annual event. And, the Sox having a bad second half is damn near an annual event. The folks you see on here getting angry about this stuff are fans. We have a right to be pissed off about the poor performance of this team. We're passionate about this team, and we want them to win. We don't want them to give us a bunch of up and down thrills only to have them just miss the playoffs. I for one couldn't shrug my shoulders and say "oh well" if this team ends up 2 games out at the end of the season.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) Ah. That's a good thing then. We won;t wind up wasting a bunch of money for nothing. You don't think he'll clear waivers in the NL?
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) I'm really trying to stay positive. It's hard knowing we have Ozzie making lineup decisions each day and continually putting us behind the 8 ball. You've inspired me. I will try to remain positive. And you're right, this team does fight back. What they need to work on is not putting themselves in that position so often. Without the 4 run spot in the first, last night's game was a different story.
  21. Is that you Greg? Kidding aside, I agree that the bullpen has been struggling with some of the guys pitching outside of their comfort zones. But the issues with this team of late go deeper than just not having Jenks to close games. He was struggling, too, and that's why he was lifted from the role...a couple times. This team is not good right now, and unless they can right the ship against the Twins right now it won't matter if Jenks is the closer or not.
  22. Whether or not the Sox can get their s*** together and win another World Series has little or nothing to do with the fans. The team has to start playing better (now!) for them to even have a chance. Us fans here on SoxTalk improving our attitudes and reducing our negativity will do nothing to make the team play better. Do we really think that Alex Rios will go running into the locker room saying, "Hey, the guys on SoxTalk are really pulling for us! Let's win some games, man!"
  23. Ozzie is extremely stubborn and falls in love with players that have no business being starters. His lineups often make me scratch my head. And I think you're right, Sqwert, a lot of players don't want to play for him. His latest embarrassing rant about Latin vs. Asian players was even shunned by the Sox. Unless the Sox win the division, I think Ozzie has to go. Regardless, I would hope that KW doesn't let Ozzie have as much power again.
  24. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) I don't know about you, but people should give me some space if I'm drinking lambics. But now I want to go find those. I don't know that they are sold up here (never heard of it). BTW, Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale is yummy. Dogfish Head makes a lot of interesting and great beers. I agree with you on the Indian Head Brown. Also, Midas Touch, Festina Peche, and Raisson D'Etra are very nice.
  25. QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) tuesdays game a must win? I would say so.
