  1. With every great player (and yes, I consider Mark a great player) there will be rough patches. MArk's rough patches have been few and short-lived. Above him being a very good pitcher, he's even a better guy and teammate...at least from what we know. I met him once before a game (along with a bunch of other people clammoring for autographs), and he was patient and made a point to say hi and sign everyone's hats, balls, tickets, etc. I'd like to see him pitch for the Sox until he's ready to retire. And I totally agree with the statue.
  2. Beckham seems to be back. Those runs should have been unearned for Danks. How could that missed catch be called a hit? Other than that one inning, Danks was sharp! Jenks did his job...and then some. It's good to see him using the hook more. Nine in a row! Let's at least split this series.
  3. It was a tough decsion, but I had to throw my vote to the Sox.
  4. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) -Ozzie forces Lillibridge to bunt for singles because his constant extra base hits don't allow Guillen to hit and run. -AJ smashes his bat into the ground before an at bat, getting it out of the way so he can just walk to the dugout when he pops up. -Jones leans so far back to try to uppercut a fastball that he scrapes his right elbow on the ground. -A DJ weird attempt at humor is shoe horned into a conversation, met with silence by Farmer, and then driven into the ground as DJ assumes all the joke needed was to be repeated ad nauseum. I have a feeling this will happen tomorrow.
  5. Wow. This thread has become quite engaging. I don't know if I've ever seen so many * in a thread. I'm glad I didn't post right away because it gave me time to think. At first I wanted to jump in and defend greg, and I'll still say this: He's definitely the target of many angry posts. But I cannot agree that Quentin is any better than lousy in the field. The catch, well that was awesome, but Andruw Jones could have caught that while dumping a fistful on sunflower seeds in his mouth because he would have taken the correct route to the ball. I'm exaggerating, but not by much. Watching Jones and Rios in the field on Sunday was a treat. These guys make it look so easy, especially Jones. I'm waiting for him to catch a can of corn behind his back while chatting it up with a fan. Quentin is always jumping around, and he looks uncomfortable every time a ball is hit in his direction. I've realized that I release a held breath every time he does catch the ball and it doesn't bounce off his head ala Jose Conseco. If Jones has returned to form (and there's no guarantee that is true), he's a much better choice...scratch that...he is THE choice to play right field over Quentin. TCQ is a beast at the plate, and the Sox need his bat. I like the idea of him DHing and having Jones and someone else playing the field. I don't think Jones can do it all the time, maybe not even most of the time. Quentin bat = good. Quentin glove = not good.
  6. -MLB officials suspend Freddy Garcia, stating that he can't be as good as he's been therefore he must have a robotic arm -Brent Lillibridge demands that he be known as TBL on SoxTalk -Carlos Quentin's hair actually gets messed up after he hits a walk-off GS, rips off his helmet, and his teammates rub his head -Mark Buehrle is tossed from a game by Joe West when he strolls to the mound wearing a cowboy hat -Peavy, being the grinder that he is, learns how to pitch left-handed and starts a game in late September
  7. Too soon...if he's moved back at all. He seems to be getting his confidence back. Leave him where he is for a while, then maybe move him up, but not to the 2-spot.

    Teahen

I would hate to see The Tank go down. He's looked good at the plate, and his defense has been serviceable. I like the idea of packaging Teahen in a trade, but who would take him? The best option the Sox have is using him in place of Kotsay, but unless Kotsay is traded or DFA'd, that's not going to happen. I suppose it's a good problem to have, but I have a bad feeling that the wrong decsion will be made and the Sox will end up with Teahen and Kotsay both getting way too much playing time.
  9. I'm starting to believe that Freddy is healthy. He obviously doesn't have the same velocity he had years ago, but he's found other ways to get outs. I'm not convinced his arm is "going to fall off". He will have a hiccup here and there...all pitchers do. But I think Freddy will be fine.
  10. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) Geez I thought this was about some disgusting thread of who's pitching and who's catching? Soxtalk its what I come to expect. Maybe you should go back to typing gibberish.
  11. I've seen plenty of players that are right-handed and bat either switch or left-handed, but there are not many who are left-handed and bat from the right. I wonder why. How many players started batting the way they do when they were little leaguers? If a player became a switch hitter, is that something they picked up early or later on in high school? So, let's start a discussion. Whether you play organized ball or just mess around in the backyard with the kids, do you throw right or left-handed and how do you bat? The only "organized" ball I've played is slow-pitch softball, and I always threw and batted right. But now when I play wiffle ball or a pick up game with my kids and their friends I'll bat left and right.
  12. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 08:38 AM) That'll be the day I can watch White Sox baseball without it bearing near-unbearable. STRETCH! STRETCH! [rumble] DAGGUMMITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! He was bearable to me until he lost the ability to judge any flyball and started compensating for it by yelling "stretch stretch!" and ending it with his trademark "DAGGUMMITTTTTTTTTTTTTT!" Which happens almost every inning. Except when it's the other team hitting fly balls. Soriano hit that homerun last week, and as soon as he hit it Hawk said, "Now that's a major league pop up." The ball then proceeded to land in the bullpen.
  13. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 07:24 AM) Great. Now I got that stupid song stuck in my head. Thanks. Believe me, so do I. But, it happened to me as soon as I saw the name. I figured I'd share.
  14. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:01 AM) Corey Hart And he's cool because he wears his sunglasses at night.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 07:16 AM) He's hit two balls harder this year than Beckham has all season. I'm sure his at-bats are not indictitive of how he would hit all of the time, but I wonder if he should get a few starts over Beckham.
  16. No need to trade for a big bat now. Lillibridge is a beast. A triple and a homerun, 6 RBIs. There's your DH. I debated about putting that in green...
  17. I saw Williams warming up in the pen yesterday, and I was concerned. Rightfully so because he promptly gave up a hit to the guy he was brought in to face and get out. Who cares about lefty on lefty when the lefty pitcher you use is no good?
  18. Sit back, relax, and strap it down.
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) I have no idea what PIT would ask for but it won't be insane like the Dunn price. Maybe Flowers would do the trick. I've thought about Jones as well, but I was thinking Pittsburgh would want to keep him around. He's getting paid next to nothing. I wonder what type of money he'd command.
  20. I'm starting to like the idea of LaRoche a lot more.
  21. Win tonight with another good outing by Peavy then roll into Texas with a head of steam. One game at a time, but a 4-2 (or better) road trip would be great.
  22. Uh...I don't know. Just looked him up. He hasn't had many opportunities this year, but a .277 OBP last year? Yikes.
  23. Let me throw a question out there for discussion. Do you think one of the considerations about who the Sox go after is the possibility of signing said player after this year? The three names that keep coming up are Dunn, LaRoche, and Fielder. All three are in their final year of their contract (although LaRoche has a mutual option). Is there any chance the Sox try to sign any of them, and if so who's most likely to actually sign? Fielder would be the most expensive, and I don't see that happening. Dunn and LaRoche may be about equal considering they are the same age. Thinking that Sox would want to sign one of them, if they were to try to keep Konerko as well, how much do you think the Sox would be willing to spend between the two? No more than $20 million? $18 million?
