Im not sure what the plan here is with Moncada. He didnt seem right yesterday.

Seems like the Lakers need to sell off their remaining salaries. I wouldnt mind getting Mo Wagner on the cheap.

Postgame: Eloy Reigns! (White Sox winner)

I think Renteria believed that by the time Moncada got up Hamels would be gone and therefore hed face a righty. Its still ridiculous and so unnecessarily risky.

I agree with this. I actually misread the trade and thought it was LaVine for Ball + 4 (meaning no pick swap) and I still wouldnt do it.

Lakers believe that they can lure top FAs. AD will sign long term, then they just need to recruit guys there. Besides for this year, they likely believe most of those picks are going to middle first round picks. I know Im on the other side here, but If I was NO Id have looked for something different.

***Day 2 MLB Draft Thread Rounds 3-10***

This is the strategy people wanted. You go overslot early and take cheap guys from 5-10 for slot savings. Then 10 on they will draft guys who wont cost them pool money. To me its the best strategy, and you just cant take a risk of losing hundreds of thousands because you took a guy who was too good.

Vaughn is in a different class than Burger. Vaughn would never have fallen to 11.

    ***Day 1 MLB Draft Thread***

Some of the comments make no sense. Besides for Rutschman, Vaughn is basically the safest pick to make it to MLB.

I realize how special Frank Thomas was. But the point remains, he was a 1b. You cant just pass on a guy because hes 1b.

The best WS player in my lifetime was a 1B.

How many guys have terrible production in the minors and then are stars in the majors? At some point you have to produce.

    ***Day 1 MLB Draft Thread***

Its one thing to question production when the guy is playing in HS or subpar competition. But Vaughn is played in a respectable league and put up numbers that are similar to great players. Its impossible to predict the future, but its hard to be upset when you get the guy who has the freakish numbers.

I dont think its Abrams is hated, I just think its that Vaughn potentially has a dynamic bat that could advance quickly. And Im not sure Vaughn is overrated. The guy has over a 2:1 BB:K ratio over the last 2 years, while hitting .380+ with power.

From a pure stat perspective, Vaughn reminds me of Bagwell.

    2019 MLB draft thread

In a normal year I think Abrams would be a fine pick. But the Sox have a chance at Rutchsman/Vaughn, and those guys just seem to be clearly better when you consider the risk associated with prep players. I just want one of those 2.

    2019 MLB draft thread

If Vaughn was going to be a solid MLB player, he likely is better than most of the players drafted in the top 5. That is just the reality of the MLB draft. As I said a few days ago, its Rutschman and then Vaughn for me.

    Game of Thrones

What made the books/show great for mewas all of the lore/history. What made the ending less satisfying for me was all of the lore/history. At a certain point you have to start providing answers to all of the mystery. Many good shows/books have fallen victim to this problem. Part of the fun of GOT was getting lost in an idea of things like the "prince who was promised", and its hard for every revelation to be a "Hodor" moment. That is really the unfortunate part. There just wont be any answers.

    Game of Thrones

Im not sure how she could have a more tragic arc than what she had. Her first husband and unborn child are killed (possibly by a person who she helped save). In Meereen bad things happen, Barristan Selmy is killed, Grey Worm injured, a ton of people die. She gets across the sea. 1 dragon and Jorah die in a battle she doesnt even really care about but is doing for the "greater good". She goes to King's Landing, another dragon is killed, the person she loves "betray's her" and arguable her best friend is murdered. I really thought that the bells were going to ring, she was going to stop fighting and then Cersei was going to take advantage and kill Dany's army.

    Game of Thrones

I think the problem is that people want to conclude she is the "Mad Queen", even though her story arc has 0 similarity to the "Mad King." When she decimated King's Landing it wasnt because she was hearing voices or went crazy, it was culmination of being a ruler for years. She has come to the conclusion that she will never be the people's choice, and she never was going to give up her claim, so she did what she believed will preserve her rule. (Edit) She made it pretty clear when she compared the people of Meereen to those of King's Landing.

    Game of Thrones

The build up to the decision when the blls rang is the entire series. Many times when she has given the "other" side a break, it has resulted in misfortune for her. Even in the beginning, she tries to save Mirri Maz Duur, which leads to the death of her unborn child. I guess I just dont think it really needed more explanation.
