Seby's DFA has me thinking about the Sox paltry 40 man.  Here are my takes so far, assuming that Clevinger, Andrus, Trayce Thompson, Grandal, and Hendriks are not brought back:

Guys who could/have to be added to the 40 (5):  Carela, Eder, Mena, Matt Thompson, Wilfred Veras.

Guys who are definitely staying (15): Bummer, Cease, Crochet, Kopech, Santos, Kory Lee, Ramos, Moncada, Popeye, Sosa, Colas, Jimenez, Robert, Vaughn, Benintendi.

Bubble (10): TA (contract option), Banks, Lambert, Davis Martin, Lane Ramsey, Sammy Peralta, Scholtens, Toussaint, Sheets, Carlos Perez, Romy Gonzalez.

The first 3 groups add up to 30 and I wouldn't even keep/add all of them.  Here's the dregs of the 40 man(10):  Cronin, Matt Foster, Deivi Garcia, Navarro, Padilla, Patino, Remillard, Frazier, Haseley, Naquin.

(Not sure if Naquin is eligible for FA. Wouldn't bring him back regardless.)

Now, you could keep every single player I have listed here. That is a 40 man roster, but ugh. Half the guys on there are release candidates/AAAA players. Who would you guys Keep, Release, Try to trade?

Just a FYI but I count 11 names as bubble.  Any close calls of minor league guys who need to be added to the 40 that you didn't?  I haven't looked at that yet.  I agree we have room for multiple flyers and rule 5 guys.  I could also see some vets on minor league deals with opt outs.

  2. I am sure it takes time to put this together.  Sprinkle went down to ACL on a rehab.  Better since his return.   Hit .275 in Aug with .765 OPS.  Granted a small sample.  Adding in Sept, still over .250. If his glove is as good as advertised, that could be a useful SS or utility player if it is maintainable.  Agree I wouldn't have him top 30.  Hopefully, more in top 30 have some level of promising performance.

Glad to see Kath is getting ranked more for performance than draft pick status.  Hope he puts it together but results aren't there despite many saying "beautiful swing".

Several catchers and pitchers is nice to see.  Granted most of these guys won't amount to anything but still with rosy glasses and squinting I can hope.

Jimmy(anyone), do many organizations use VR glasses to give guys thousands of pitches with which to try and learn spin/strike zones?

It should take everyone at SoxTalk no more than an hour or so to look at the Top 30 list and realize the majority of talent is at least 1-3 years away.

The first order of business should be sitting down with Katz and mapping out a plan for the Top 15-20 starting prospects in the minors as well as developing a strategy with Cease Kopech and Crochet among others for 2024.

Whatever you call it (Camp Birmingham)... developing starting pitching internally is going to be a critical key to success without spending serious money to bring in talent via FA.

With Giolitto gone, will Katz have a job?  If Griffol is kept, I can't imagine some people not being changed for appearance sake.  Katz was  a holdover so I wouldn't be surprised to see him go.

Bama please alert us to all vacations you have on your calendar

Actually in September going to DC (Peter Gabriel concert), Boston (Sox vs Sox) Gettysburg,Antietam on way home. Anyone with site/dining suggestions welcome.

  5. Harold (anyone), you know anything about Nishida playing centerfield?  Perhaps getting comfortable defensively delayed his playing?  Is this a permanent/long term thing or just expanding his options?  How does the arm play?

  6. It is pretty nice that virtually everyday Birmingham has a decent prospect pitching.

In the DSL, two homers for Mogollon.  At 17 years old, is it time to get a little excited?  K rate at around 15% and walks about equal Ks.  .314/ .414/ .967. Maybe comes to ACL next year?
