  1. fathom post Jul 5, 2017 -> 07:36 PM Post #32 Mr. Pessimism ****************** Group: Members Posts: 105,880 Joined: June 20, 2004 Member No.: 1,578 QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:47 AM) * I'm hoping for a top 10 prospect in the system of whoever they trade with for the Melkman. Of course I like him because the Sox have had so few LH productive bats and his strong and accurate arm. Very likely it won't be anyone near top 10 #5 before season , #13 at time of trade plus another player w/ the Sox paying money. I'll take this as near a top ten in a system.
  2. Where's the Tanking Ugly t -shirts when you need one ? Based on the 1983 White Sox slogan of Winning Ugly for you youngsters.
  3. Gillaspie falls right in line with the recent Sox M.O.of power and OBP.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) Lyle Mouton! That's it !
  5. Mendick 3/3 2 2b 2BB and 4 RBI Yelmison Peralta 6.2 innings 1 hit 0R 8 K 1 BB for Kanny 22 years old from the Dominican .
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 06:23 PM) Chris Volstad! LOL Who is the other name you like throwing out there all the time ? The hitter, not Ivan Calderon ....
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) Should be dealt? Holland, Shields, and MiGo should also be dealt. Whether they are or not is anyone's guess, personally I think only MiGo is dealt, but all three should go Umm so who would start games if all 3 got traded ? I'm sure all the kids are reaching the upper limits of their innings count .
  8. Another situation where Saladino could have been running. Maddon sends guys more than Renteria.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) He died, went to hades with Rodon, Zangari, Diaz and Jones and thankfully was brought back from the underworld Don't forget Putnam and Tilson !
  10. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:59 PM) Don't get me wrong- I don't believe this will happen. But he has turned it around recently, including in terms of Ks. He's still relatively young, so why not push him and see if he's an asset? What do we have to lose? Eloy could be at AAA next year, but other than him, do you want to see Rymer Liriano in the OF again, or would you like to test Hawkins? I fully expect him to continue to fail, and my comment about the majors was an absolute perfect storm, but we have the space so we at least ought to find out. Going to be some battles in spring training with Willy , Leury, Avi, Engel, Hanson, Cordell and maybe Tilson. Am I forgetting someone ? Oh yeah Liriano if they all make it through the off season.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) Garcia last 7 days: BA 0.125, .285 OPS Garcia 7 games before that: .296 BA, .863 OPS (crosses AS break) You could see he was hitting a ton of ground balls lately when not swinging and missing.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 07:06 AM) Has there been any Avi rumors of late? Rumor has it that Abreu will soon have a higher batting average than Avi.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) I completely agree. Like I said, if this stuff is continuing when the team is actually going to be competitive, then Renteria needs to have his hands tied. I'm sure Renteria is being his own man with the bunts but dude has to realize if he wants a future managing that stuff needs to hit the scrap heap. How bout letting your speedy guys steal ? I know stealing isn't as en vogue as it used to be but how many times do the Sox have to screw up the bunt or hit into a DP or get another hit only to strand 2 runners on base so many innings ? If we are going to have all these speedy little guys give them the green light and learn a skill that has value. It's just shameful that the team leader in steals has 6 !
  14. We hardly knew ye Anthony Swarzak but you did good. Now keep doing good and help the Blue Crew and maybe we meet again next year.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) Stop acting like there is some infinite number of baseball lineups the White Sox need to fill. They have one team. We have an actual mlb organization, you know. We have lots of guys that "can make the major leagues." Do you know that Anthony Swarzak was "in" the major leagues already? And dominating? But we'll keep trading good "actual" major league players for guys that can "make" the major leagues, with "ceilings" that are really high! You are one of my fav posters but you're getting bent out of shape for nothing. Swarzak pitched great and the Sox are fortunate that he did . Everyone else has pointed out the reasons so no need for me to rehash it. As far as the Sox having a multitude of guys like Cordell I just don't think it's true. There is currently no one in the OF in the upper levels who has good pop and can actually field and also has speed. That's what separates him from guys like Engel, May, Tilson, Leury who alll have speed but can't hit for power. The Sox have been targeting power hitters and OBP in the last 2 drafts. If I use my rose colored glasses and ignore that most of his power came playing in Colorado he still has more power than the current crop of upper level minor league OF's plus has the same if not better tools than the aforementioned players all vying for OF spots.
  16. Games versus the Cubs was just strange, Engel , Moncada, Anderson all got on early where the runner and situation called for a stolen base Why does bunting take precedent over steals ? Only Anderson attempted a steal but I am not sure if it was a hit and run since there was a swing every time Anderson attempted to run.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Keep on losing. Keep on losing Sure feels like rock bottom.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) Actually not joking . I mean I know Merrifield is 28 so he came on late, but good batting average, decent pop , pretty good infielder, versatile, and great SB% . He can do everything pretty well. Of course if Moncada can do what a 9th rd pick can do only just do it much earlier and maybe with more pop I would be thrilled.
  19. I'd be thrilled if Moncada can turn into a Whit Merrifield type player .
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) Probably not, and it would obviously be dependent on what Sox doctors thought of his back, but to me a fascinating buy low guy. There were a lot of people upset he was traded away and the Sox top OF prospects are still a way away. Throw him out there this year and next and see if he can create some value. I would think if Dodger scouts like how Swarzak is throwing, giving him up.wouldnt be painful. Usually I was the one bringing up getting TNT back. Article on CSN about him saying the best 2 months of his life was when he was brought up here. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...&yptr=yahoo I think it makes sense reacquiring him. Dodgers sure don't need him and Swarzak would be more valuable for them as a contender. Engel could stay in CF, Trayce could move to right and Avi to left or just put Trayce in left. At least then 2/3 of the OF is good defensively.
  21. Well he got hurt on July 4th. Merkins tweet said it was an injury that would keep him out for a minimum of 7 days. Not sure if that meant from the date of the injury or the date he reported it (7/7). So its been 15 days since he reported it and no update or news.
  22. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) Why do this? Trade two OFs for Two OFs ? That doesn't make sense. I'd consider trading any/all of Melky/Avi/Swarzak for something like Carson Kelly + Oneil. Not sure HOW good Kelly is tho. He seems touted highly. Because we have to trade Melky and the Cards want hitting very badly right now. Avi is a FA in 2020 .Piscotty though older is not a free agent til 2023 and has a slightly longer track record than Avi . We trade Avi to take advantage of a breakout year and don't run the risk of him regressing. I also said Grichuk isn't necessary and Swarzak could be thrown in to get a prospect from the Cards. Right now Avi is worth more to the Cards than Piscotty is and if they want to maximize winning now then Melky and Swarzak help that. Like you said it also could be for all prospects but it never hurts to get a decent ML player once in a while who still has years of control and has shown to be a good offensive and competent defensive player. Perhaps reading the whole post you would see I was just throwing out an idea that wasn't etched in stone.
