  1. pretty funny White Sox stuff check out @JackKeefe2 on twitter
  2. funny https://twitter.com/JackKeefe2
  3. We're staying on the campus of Thunderbird, about 10 minutes to the north... We are looking to check out the Camelback facility during non-major league games, so I'm happy there will be some Sox/Dodgers games going on... What time does it open?
  4. If it hasn't already begun, can we please start a thread for Sox Spring Training 2011? I plan on attending in ealy March.. I'll be there for 5 days. I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to expect at Camelback. Also, looking for the typical tourist info... good places to eat, hike, pick up sluts...
  5. Its close to done... pending a physical ( and it will be an extensive one). Look for 1 year at about $800,000... far less that the $2 mil his agent asked the Cubs for at the end of 09. He will be Ned Coletti's favorite player... even if the Dodgers don't make the playoffs.
  6. To North's credit, I heard he wrote Webio employees checks from his personal account. Knowing North, I can tell you he may have missed on Hernandez shady background, but it would be very out of character for North to be the source of the fraud. People may not like him, but he's an honest, hard working guy who deserves what he's earned.
  7. yep - Boras' involvement makes it all the stranger... if its true (which still seems unlikely to me), it would have to be some non-guaranteed minor league deal. We'll see what happens, I guess.
  8. I know this sounds insane, but I've been told by someone close to the matter that the Sox are close to signing Ben Broussard. This move makes zero sense to me, but since I heard it, I figured I'd put it out there.
  9. For anyone who cares, I got some info on this... For Comcast, it starts as a free preview on Channel 410 on 18 Dec... Its goes pay on Jan 1st... Its a part of the digital classics package...
  10. Trading Jenks is a great idea... for all the reasons that have already been mentioned. I'd love to see another World Series for the Sox in 2010 or 2011, and that ain't gonna happen with the likes of Jenks and Dye on the roster... SELL HIGH!
  11. coupla long and forgotten ones that popped up on my ipod receently: Junk Monkeys 'Five Star Fling' album... those guys kicked some ass! David & David's 'Boomtown'... fine piece of of work... these 9 songs were all they ever put out, but David Baerwald had a good solo record a few years later... my cassette copy is long gone... got find it on CD...
  12. Kenny's past behavior suggests he is a buy low sell high kind of guy. That leads me to believe he will trade Dye. Based on the past two seasons of underproduction from PK, KW won't get much for him if he put him on the block. Swisher is versetile, and has a slavery deal. I think its unlikely he'll be traded. Thome's $13 m contract and his age make him untradeable as well. KW's past behavior does suggest he go in search of some sub-par outfield help.. someone life Tavaras... but I hope not...
  13. Thome gave out autgraphed pictures of himself to trick or treaters this Halloween. Jenks lives about 1/2 mile from him, but I didn't go by his house, so I'm not sure what he was giving out. Probably just candy - I'm sure the Jenks house always has plenty of that on hand.
  14. Its been a long time since I did any serious traveling... but --deck of cards --money belt --US dollars and a few travelers checks (maybe a few euros too) --the usual array of pills --one good, long (but not big) book --tabasco sauce --leatherman --concentrated soap Three of each - shirts, underwear, socks and pants. Sox cap. There is lots more.. depends on your destination and time of year...
  15. The Jack Keefe blog had a funny entry about this today: http://jackkeefe.blogspot.com/
  16. I've worked in the Loop for over 10 years now - I don't go out to eat too often, beyond the chains , here are my picks: --Taza's or Haifa's for middle eastern --Venice Cafe (Sears Tower) --Pan Hel bakery in Greektown for the spinach pies --Arturo's --Pompeii If you are looking for a liquid lunch, there is no better spot than Cal's.
  17. Aug 13-19 Dubler went 7 for 20 (including 2 doubles) with 4 runs scored and 7 driven in.
  18. This may have aleardy been covered, but I examined a few non-traditional stats on Konerko in an effort to identify any major difference in his hitting between this year other seasons (beyond the obvious measurements). Here is the site: http://www.statcorner.com/ All I could see is that he is swinging and missing a lot more (DUH!) - 21.2% of the time, which is 4% increase over his average for the past 6 years (17.2%), and he is hitting a lot more ground balls (44.2% vs 6 year avg of 37.9%, an increase of 6.3%) than fly balls (28.5% vs 6 year avg of 33.6%, a decrease of 5.1%) when compared to previous seasons. I'm not sure how much of this can be attributed to his injury, but it is what it is, I guess.
  19. Last year was about the craziest college football season ever. If I could go out on a limb and pick one upset I'm taking Ohio University over OSU in Columbus on Sept 6th. The Buckeyes will be looking past the Bobcats towards USC the next week. Hey - there is no glory in picking the favorite... in this case, the OVERWHLEMING favorite...
  20. There are really only two for me: Minnesota Vikings University of Miami (Ohio)
  21. I was there about 12 years ago. Dublin is a boring, expensive dump. Get out to the countryside. Belfast was more excitied. I got lost wandering through the neighborhoods looking for the row house Van Morrison was born in (I found it - little plaque out front). The exchange rate is so terrible right now - go to a nice third world country instead.
  22. Hard question - you have to take a number of factors into account, notably, the team's budget for talent, over which the GM has no control. I'm no expert, but with my limited knowledge I'd generally agree on Beane and KW... and whomever runs the Twins. Its all about getting the biggest bang for your buck and Oakland, the White Sox and Minnesota seem to do quite well... You could probably throw Florida, Arizona and Detroit in the mix as well.
  23. I was a Score employee the day they went on the air, worked there a number of years, and still stay in touch with these people - and I know most them personally, albeit now as simply friends not co-workers. People come and go in radio, and the fact that North, Murphy and Boers have been at the same station for 16 years (and survived a major shift in ownership) says a lot about them. They've got a fan base, loyal advertisers and steady ratings. You may not like them, and that's OK, but I know for a fact that all three of those guys are deserving individuals who have worked very hard and made enormous personal sacrifices for their success. It takes a certain (strong) personality to succeed in that environment, and all three have accomplished this feat. Radio (not just The Score) is in real sad shape. I think North's situation came down to the bean counters at corporate just not being able to justify his current salary demands. Like any smart baseball team, the GM may let an aging and overpriced superstar walk whem he is past his prime and asking for more money. Maybe he pissed off the wrong suit. CBS will take a chance and underpay some young gun to help their bottom line. Whatever. I know some other employees are not happy at the Score right now. Its a different place since Dan Lee sold it (along with WXRT). Entertainers are, by nature, a vain lot. But they are also incredibily generous people who rarely forget friends and favors. In both North and Murphy's cases, they've got plenty of other options beyond The Score and can easily walk away once they are unhappy or radio is no longer 'fun'. Guys like Hood, Rogers, Holmes have certainly paid their dues. They can make a living at this, but it is an amazing stuggle, one which (after 10 years) I was no longer able to endure. Sports talk is a career that can grind you down into a pile of weeping dust in a matter of moments. Its a tough, cut throat business and truly only the strongest survive. The persistance, wisdom, and mental toughness required to sustain and prosper in this type of career is found only rarely in very gregarious, hearty individuals. Its not for everyone, certainly not the armchair QBs that haunt this space. North had a good run, and he'll bounce back. He's got plenty of cash to keep him warm at night.
  24. With Soriano out, I think the next few weeks will tell the story on Johnson - he is going to see a lot more playing time.
  25. as I recall, someone indicated that during the offseason he had a personal problem that may have caused him to fall out of favor with the Sox brass. His scouting video made me take notice - he's got some nice movement on those pitches.
