  1. That would be funny to be honest. Should make it a public hearing and do the same "Well, we're not going to do that, it's asinine to pay for a stadium like that. No stadium ever deserves that kind of money" in the way he did the interview and comment on Shohei.
  2. It's a beautiful stadium I say. Plot twist, the parking is in the building in right field, they just put a bunch of lights to appease all KC fans and Tray.
  3. Jerry will. Jerry has private investors lined up and it's not going to cost the gov anything more than what they're paying now. They did basic renderings of how they could fill the land, but no actual stadium pictures. For all things Lorri did wrong, she did render some images of a new Soldier Field land. A domed stadium on the lake would be awesome to be honest, but it would cost crazy money to pull off. My thoughts is doing something similar to SoFi, but also have retractable windows to open it up to the lake during the summer time. You would be looking at a 5 billion dollar stadium, however, and that's without figuring out how to navigate "Friends of the Park" as well as the rest of the development (train station being a major one). In addition, one of the main reasons why the Bears wanted their own stadium is so they could generate their own revenue. They wanted a sportsbook. They wanted Bears land and they wanted control of it. You build anywhere near Soldier Field and FOTP is going to cancel 80% of your vision, hence why JR doesn't go through them. He's many bad things as an owner, the one thing he isn't is a bad business man. JR has been kind to people. He has not been a good owner. But he does have a soft spot. Bingo. In addition, the sale of the team with the new downtown stadium, along with owning the real estate and owning the stadium land with Stephen Ross will be enough. JR is going to gain tons of money from this. 50 million is a non-cited parking ticket for him. It doesn't even register for him.
  4. Original Jim's which the new Sox stadium will be closer to is better. Only contender is Dave's Red Hots on the west side.
  5. I think of Cincinatti and similar to that. It's right along the lake, but they did underground parking. With that said, it wouldn't fit every car if no one took public transportation. In all honesty, it promotes public trans better which helps the city. I think it's a no brainer. Your older fans will still want to be driven and they can be, but the core of your fanbase is going to be younger. Folks coming in from the downtown high schools, stretching all the way to Ignatius and Whitney Young, the UIC folks, and you will still get Bridgeport faithful who are willing to take 2 train stops north. I don't even think it's much farther from Ricobenes. And the important thing, they don't have to do much to build an environment around the ballpark. In Bridgeport, they fought trying to do so. Bridgeport is very protective of their identity, similar to Pilsen. They want to ok any and everything going on. It's not just about making money, but making money their way. Sox are trying to make their franchise more attractive. Like I told folks a week ago, this has been in the works for awhile and it's not just some plan that was fast tracked. JR & Co have been talking about this with the proper powers since last May.
  6. Jerry made his millions in real estate. I don't think people realize how sharp he is when it comes to that type of stuff. Keep in mind, he's responsible for building 2 stadiums in his tenure here while the other owners simply struggled with getting their stadiums renovated. I hate Jerry the baseball owner, but JR the business man is more than solid.
  7. I would enjoy him on the team. He brings excitement and flair. Many of his problems were that he was a loud Hispanic in a clubhouse that wanted only quiet. I'm a huge Dodger fan (my NL team since I moved out there for a bit) and I will say Kershaw and Greinke created a divide that made him to be the enemy. That, unfortunately, followed him everywhere he went so he didn't get a legit shot afterwards. With the Braves, he got hurt and that was that. I feel for him because he was maybe a year or two early. You see guys like Marcus Stroman or Tim Anderson who helped change people's minds that it's okay to be loud. Puig's fault is not reading the room to be honest.
  8. It's this. JR is going to own that land, sell the team before he has to pay much of anything, and cash out on the Sox. The 78 going through would be a move that Sox fans should be getting behind if you could read the tea leaves. And the other thing is, as I said before, this is further along than people want to realize. Sox are very much aware of what used to be on that land. They're aware of "the challenges" which any plot of land presents. And whoever said "Sox fans won't even drive past it", that couldn't be further from the truth. Roosevelt is already a major road in Chicago. That Target (which is literally across the street on Roosevelt is the most popular one in Chicago. There's a ton of foot traffic there as is due to bars, restaraunts, grocery stores, etc. I would venture to bet, that place would be visited (forget "driven past") way more than GRF due to location.
  9. Apologies, it's not moving to another city, but moving the ballpark elsewhere in Chicago. He did look long and hard at the UC and that is considered the backup site. There are valid reasons why they didn't use that as their first choice which I can't get into. He won't be. The Sox are a lot further along than what fans think. There are different financial proposals that have been submitted and they have been working closely with the city.
  10. I was told that unless Jerry gets another deal similar to the last one at the Rate, they are moving. JR, apparently, has been aware of some time of building an area where people want to hang out at and looked at the costs as well as the opposition in Bridgeport for such like that. With that stated, this move is about moving to an environment where people can hang out as opposed to building it himself. It's about making the team and INF around it as strong as possible as he prepares for a sale. Was also told he has an idea of who wants to buy the team. Take it with a grain of salt. I haven't talked this person in awhile as I really haven't care for the Sox in awhile.
  11. Bowers is a waste of a high draft asset unless you're trading Kmet.
  12. Feel sorry for the city of Oakland. In the last 5 years, they've lost the Raiders, Warriors and As.
  13. Stone won't care. He'll sell the move as positive. He's at the deli counter with Bob, Jerry, TLR in Arizona. (Listen to Kaplan yesterday if you don't know what I mean). Stone will never leave until he's ready to completely retire. And the Sox will never fire him, hence how he can get away with doing 60 games a year but get paid for the full slate.
  14. It's not a good move if you don't replace him unless you admit to lying about "I feel this team can contend next year" and you're actually just cutting payroll. Because it's not like our minors were tearing it up. It actually, from all metrics, was certified trash. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if JR is pretty much fine slimming payroll to a minimum and just collecting off of revenue sharing and whatever people refuse to stay home in the stands since he certainly wouldn't have to pay for his lease. Wouldn't be shocked if he does it until he has his new stadium, has sold, or passed away.
  15. Romo had maybe 3 great years. I wouldn't take Eli over Cutler, but I would take his career. Eli was a frontrunner who did great with talent around him, but he was mediocre during the regular season and never elevated his team unless it was in a Super Bowl. Flacco as well. Palmer had 1 stud season and wasn't the same afterwards. Stafford is very questionable. Schuab was def questionable too.
  16. Yes, it sounds like he's for sure out for Sunday and they may not rush him back necessarily.
  17. Best plan I can come up with that the FO would probably go with is: Sign two of Ryu, Giolito and Flaherty to one year deals. I think Giolito will show he still can be a great 4/5th starter. I think Flaherty has a lot to give in terms of talent, but he'll have to stay healthy. Trade for Salvador Perez - I hope he's still a good game manager. He would help Gio and Jack improve their stocks, if so. Sign Will Smith as a relief pitcher (I'd go all scrapheap types though since a bullpen is a crapshoot and this team isn't ready to compete) Brandon Crawford as a SS Pickup the TA option and move him to 2B Sign two of k*** Hernandez, Joc Pederson, Jason Heyward off the bench as a utility man/platoon guys. This is not something I necessarily want, but I think that's the best you can do with the constraints the Sox put on themselves.
  18. I think Poles and everyone should always be under constant evaluation, that being: Do they have a plan? Are they executing on that plan successfully? Despite some misses (which will happen for everybody), are we any closer to completing the plan? If the answer is yes, to me, you cannot fire the coach or player. Poles does have some misses, however. A 2nd for Claypool was a headscratcher in terms of value they gave up. Claypool already had problems in Pittsburgh with Tomlin. Giving up a 32nd pick is really awful considering he couldn't finish with you. I get they needed to up their offer to keep him away from GB and they wanted to help Fields. I'm not a huge fan of Tremaine Edmunds. To me, he's a replacement level player. I do like Yannick, but he's a mercenary for hire. Front 7 are all questionable decisions. I won't knock him on Flus since he was already picked when he walked in the door, nor will I knock him for seeing what he had in Justin this year. He gave himself outs and he's managing the cap and assets ridiculously well IMO, even with the Claypool stuff.
  19. And we also all watched him walk away from a dead friend.
  20. I wouldn't say that's all he wanted. With that stated, it's hard to evaluate the secondary with such a horrid front 7. When they had a good front 7, that secondary looked legit. I do think Poles/Flus missed on Tremaine Edmunds. He's a nice player, but not a difference maker and they overpaid for him. Yannick is a mercenary for hire, but he needs help. They still have more holes to fill than not on defense. There's no way you could take Carter. They don't have the team for him. Fields is a leader, and he's completely lost. They asked Flus and Williams who were leaders of the defense and they answered Tremaine Edmunds, a FA pickup. He hasn't been in that locker room long enough. I understand the talent, but Carter had motor questions and definite questions about his personality. Pickens, maybe. But gain, the Bears have a good Oline who are looking bad due to their QB holding onto the ball far too long. OLine is not a problem, like at all, in my estimation. Bears rank 8th in terms of time given to the QB in the league. That means they are in the upper 25% of the league. The QB sucking makes the unit look worse, and they're not even at 100% yet. Agreed. You must take both.
  21. Where does he say that the rebuild is complete or anything remotely close to that? I don't see it. He's speaking generic "We're looking to be better talk" which every GM has to do. No GM ever comes out and says "Yeah guys, this is Year 2 of us sucking, but by Year 4, we'll be good, so catch us then." Even last year, the Bears, despite doing so, would not admit to tanking.
  22. Um, almost no FO evaluates their drafted QB until after year 3. They essentially had one year with him and saw things they liked, but also things they didn't like. They gave themselves another full year to evaluate him and an easy out if he doesn't pan out. They've done as good as a job of anyone ensuring they didn't mess up the QB room long term. Sounds like you expected the rebuild to only last one year.
  23. The media speaks for the fans 9/10 times. If CJ Stroud is not considered a better prospect than the guy you have in house who should be further along in his development, why would you trade the guy in house and waste a pick on a QB when you have other pressing needs? You wouldn't unless you have a time machine and realize what has played out. And again, Stroud looks decent in his three games. 3 games doesn't make a career. Stop using hindsight.
  24. That's using quite a bit of hindsight. CJ Stroud was no better than Fields as a prospect. CJ Stroud also came into a worst QB class. Next year's QB crop is considered much stronger by many with two QBs who many believe would go #1 any other draft. Also, if you traded Fields and he was good, you would've been killed by the media. Lastly, it's been 3 games. You saw Fields have 8 pretty darn good games last year. Anyone could put together a string of decent games. It's a matter of, can you win with them and is their success sustainable?
