  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) I remember back in 04 even when Count was in NY that he was so consumed with his family getting to the U.S., it was a big reason why he could never get his head on straight with NY. I think it's clear this stuff gets to him, and after his last start, it seems more probable something was going on upstairs with Count. Definitely agree. What I don't understand though is what he could get charged for. When you hear that he got his family here doesn't that mean he paid someone to get them here? Of course he did. I just don't understand what law he broke...except for Cuban laws.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) Sure you were the one dude who wanted that. If I remember correctly, we had El duque getting decked start after start, and then Bmac mopping up looking like Cy Young. Everyone was wanting Bmac on the team in the playoffs. No...I was the one guy who wanted that. You can look it up if you want. I called the whole el duque coming through in the bullpen in a big playoff game thing.
  3. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) It seems like every year critics pick the Indians to make it. They have tremendous talent but they haven't proven they can make it yet. IMO the Tigers are the team to beat in the Central. The loss of Kenny Rogers makes things interesting for the central. You can never count out the Twins either..they seem to be in the hunt every year thanks to Johan, Maur and Morneau. I respect that Phillips is showing some props to the Sox while everyother critic has them going 3rd or 4th. But I agree that the wildcard will probably not come out of the central. If we make the playoffs it would be through winning the division. The key to the season is getting off to a fast start and not looking back via the 2005 season. Whatever happens i think we all know it will come down to the final week of the season. Lets do this thing!!! Can't wait for the opening pitch!!! Not that it means very much but Wilbon picked the Sox to win the World Series again.
  4. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) One more reason this may happen. Per 3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 in another thread, ESPN reported that Detroit is the mystery team in for Bonds. Did Leyland manage Bonds in Pittsburg? The Sox may sign Bonds to block this. Paying 15 mil/year to block him from another team is not a good idea. Frankly, we would never do that. We don't pay 15 for guys we actually want much less primarily to block him from another team. I'm glad to hear he has signed.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) Because we're not a small market team! That's exactly what I was thinking.
  6. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 06:53 PM) Every team must EARN their standing ovations. The Sox earned it last year and they got plenty. They also got lots of carry-over love early in this season. They earned that too. Since the ASB, they haven't just lost; they haven't fought hard. They haven't given 100% effort. They've shown no fire, intensity or heart. THAT does not deserve a standing ovation. This team is experiencing a big hangover from 2005. Unfortunately, many fans are too. Many fans think it was enough for the Sox to win the championship and then phone it in. Some of these fans even want us to giving the team a standing ovation even though they are sleepwalking through the second half. If they lose 100 games next year, should we give them standing ovations too? They did win it all in 2005... Let's just give them standing ovations at every game no matter how crappy they play and how little effort they give. Rock, apparently you'd cheer if the Sox went out and took a dump on the field. Some fans have higher standards. You could say that I am one of those hangover fans. I definitely consider myself a diehard, but this whole year I have had a hard time getting into it as much as I have in the past. The reason: I was just so damn content. I thought it would go away, but it hasn't. I think it's the same way kind of with the players. My theory: There is a reason that you don't see teams repeating very often. When you win it, some of your drive goes. You just don't want it as bad. I'm not saying that they're not giving 100% percent, but everyone who has played sports ever knows that there is 100%, and there is definitely a level higher. The Sox weren't able to get to that level higher this year. While I would never think about just going and giving this team a standing Ovation, I do not think that you could say they quit. It takes a truly SPECIAL team to repeat and the Sox just weren't able to do it.
  7. Worst game ever. Really no other words I can come up with. Total red hot garbage.
  8. QUOTE(Contreras @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) I think we still have only a 19% chance of making last year's playoffs. That Chucky Carr thing is f***ing hilarious. "George is getting angry!"
  9. I caught my 1st one last year, oddly enough at Wrigley. They were playing the Pirates. We were sitting about 6 rows back of the Pirates dugout. Craig Wilson caught a pop-up and it was the third out. As he was jogging back to the dugout, right before he went in, he threw it up. I reached over the row in front of me and caught it. I kept it too. The lady in front of me was saying I should give it to a kid, but I was like "hey, this is my first foul ball ever and I was a little kid once too." She understood well enough.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:01 AM) We've got a team option on him for next season that will definitely be picked up. It's a typical Rick Hahn type of deal, Jermaine Dye got one as well. 2 years and then a team option, with the salaries escalating thru the deal. And yeah there's no doubt his impact on the Sox is quite underrated I would have thought. Really been one of KW's best ever signings without a doubt. Good to hear. Thanks for the info.
  11. I was wondering if anyone was very familiar with his situation contract-wise. I believe we only signed him for 2 years, so... he will be a free-agent. Has there been any talk from his agent or anything like that about what he plans to do? I think Iguchi is a very under-rated part of what the Sox do. He does everything well. I don't think we have another player who can do anywhere near the job he does batting second. He has become my favorite player on the Sox (now that ARow's gone), and I don't even want to think about him leaving.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Yeah, back in aught-three, some Yankee fans were proddin' us the whole game, so's me and some of the guys followed 'em through Bridgeport, lured 'em into an alley, beat 'em to death with a lead pipe and a poorly fashioned cane, and stuffed the jerks down a sewer pipe. Those were the good old days. Nice. Very nice.
  13. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) I've decided to make a thread dedicated to a systematic problem the 06 White Sox have had: basepath problems. We have had a terrible time stopping the running game of the other team and we are certainly willing to run into outs even when there is ample evidence that running is not the best play. In fact, it's no longer one of the "little things", its moved on to being a legitimate issue. Tonight, the Yankees ran on us pretty much at will. No surprise given that Contreras and Garcia couldn't stop half the guys here from running. While they have altered their stride a bit and held the ball longer at times throughout this year, there has been no increase in positive results to the eye anyways. My bone of contention, while realizing that you do want to keep some focus on the hitter, is that we aren't doing everything we can to stop the run. There have not been nearly enough throws over by Garcia and Conteras. Second, and much more important, we don't pitch out NEARLY enough. You don't want to do it all the time but if you have a great basestealer and an 0-1 count, its worth taking a shot. We just don't utilize the pitchout how we should. My second major gripe is with our Ozzie Ball running. I like stealing bases as much or more than anyone but we looked dumb out there tonight. Clearly Posada was showing off a good arm tonight and the Yankee pitchers were quick to the plate as we sent guys with good but unspectacular speed towards second and ending our innings. Where is the hit and run? If you are struggling to get rallies going and you aren't able to steal bases, putting a guy in motion is a great way to hedge your bets. Yet we don't do this very much. It would be wise with a guy like Cintron who can handle the bat well I don't disagree with you but this is Ozzie's style. I remember thinking this many times last year too and look what happened. When things are good, this style looks great and"keeps pressure on the other team." WHen it doesn't work, they look like schmucks.
  14. QUOTE(mu mu @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) No, no, no, you're not even close. I caught your humor. I think what he was trying to say was that no no no you're not even close... this is ACTUALLY what the Sox will do. But of course he doesn't give a prediction because he's just making ajoke about how pointless it is to try and predict game for game. YOu've gotta have the right sense of humor to get it.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) It is so amazingly simple, and so true. I so agree. I was thinking the same thing today before today's game. I can't truly feel comfortable about our staff until Buehrle is right. Good to see him take the first step tonight.
