Welcome to the MLB work stoppage

yeah I won't hold my breath. Jerry has prioritized the players losing instead of fighting the competitive balance arguments. But for all the finger wagging at the sox for their drafts, and they deserve it, they are the only team in the ALC without competitive balance picks. We get less intl spending money than every other team. So yeah, their freakin "bigger budgets" better work in getting free agents because the other teams in the division get a whole lot of handouts when it comes to competing.

It's not money, it's giving the opportunity to spend more on the draft to teams that win.

Here's something I'd be open to which achieves something similar. In leagues with relegation, obviously big help of moving up a league is getting more money and budget and resources, as well as prestige, etc. What if you kept the slotting of draft picks by record, but gave draft pool bonuses and intl FA bonuses to teams that make playoffs or finish top 10 in their league. The team with the #1 overall draft pick still has the ability to get the rights for a year to an elite prospect, but wouldn't be able to hoard a huge draft draft class as well because the money is more equalized across the draft class. The reason this won't work is it will be complicated at hell for what happens to the overall draft pool for the first year (do you grow it for the bonus money, or reduce recommended slot?).

I cannot find it but I feel like I saw something in my twitter feed today that the schedule ramifications would actually be affected with a win.

Oh my god I found floor seats for tomorrow’s game for only $200 (normal weekday/non big time team like this would be like $550+). I’ve only been on 100 level once, this is gonna be amazing

I prefer the transition buckets players like Green/Caruso provide the ones, and bulls still struggle with bench scoring. We don’t have problems making a good starting lineup, but would be nice to rest DDR and Vuc more in second half because Coby improves playmaking with the 2s.

Welcome to the MLB work stoppage

Reading these replies makes it seem like the 2011-2016 white sox were like this golden child of baseball competitiveness and entertainment by their consistently signing 2nd contract vets to be competitive. I think it’s very likely that baseball could make no changes and have a much more competitive 2020s than (esp back half) 2010s. In the 2000s, the lower spend teams like the As and Rays modernized, but the higher revenue teams could just outspend them to out talent them. But then Theo to the Red Sox, and Friedman to the dodgers and etc etc soon the big market teams began deploying these same talent strategies and my take is that by 2016 SO many other teams in the league realized they were way behind and would not be able to compete with their strategies anymore and could also not compete with mere money advantages (they didn’t have any). So I don’t think it was just fetishizing tanking to win, it was a ton of teams throwing their seasons as they overhauled their orgs. Player development technology, further integrating track an, etc, there may have been a lot more start up costs into the org that weren’t going into players hands. But that’s over now. There is what, one? “Old school” organization (the rox), and I guess the Royals maybe. When Dick friggen Williams hired Driveline, you could tell there was no actual debate anymore on what was needed to compete (and I’m sure Boddy was expensive). But anyway, that’s over now, changes will occur but I’m not sure anything like what just happened the last 5 years will happen for quite a while. So with teams operating much more similarly, the margins of improvement will probably shift back to free agency for the edge. Long story short, I don’t think dramatic changes are necessary for parity or anti-tanking measures. It was just a kinda shitty competitive era. Wouldn’t be the first time in baseball, but it’s not everlasting.

So while waiting for my pizza I went through more of his site/tweets and I think his belief is the bears are going to give a lot of power to their next coach and so this matters less as the coach will remake the org.

Love the disconnect here. They are going to hire a new GM and Coach now but know that their current President is retiring in a year ?? Nit saying it’s definitely true but If that is what was told to me Id point out that that is already a disaster. ”Hi new president, here is your GM and Coach we just hired, so you can’t do anything until they fail”

Really solid of Schefter to use all of his weight to raise so much today. I hope Their son can maintain some normalcy of schools districts and friend groups as he transitions into his new caretakers. This has just been so miserably sad.

Mets could shop McNeil, Sox could have interest

I’m confused, I thought the front office thought eatons attitude was what the front office thought was missing last offseason?

Dodgers trading lux with their turners getting older, Muncy out for an extended run and losing Seager seems more implausible than before.

I don’t really consider his 46% GB rate that bad, and he was dealing with multiple leg injuries last year which I’m hoping accounts for his drop in speed and power. But a 45ish% GB rate when your Krate is just 13% vs an Abreu/Sheets where it’s very annoying because of their power potential and higher krate and slower speed making a higher % of their PAs as outs. Obviously we hope McNeils power output was due to his legs, but he wouldn’t be available otherwise. His defense rates as fantastic, however. So Lefthanded, high contact, great defense continues to check more boxes than most of our additions. He did have attitude issues fighting with Lindor last year, so hopefully this isn’t acquiring a swisher.
