  1. While the white sox can no longer hurt me, I am deluding myself into thinking our new front office is exploring bringing in Harbaugh. Super embarrassing for me when they bring in Frank Reich as OC. I do still really like McCarthy but he's such a wild card. I do wonder though with the "anticipation" throws, I still kinda think he is asked to still make a predetermined throw and he has a lot of tutelage on making that throw and it's less of a "feel" thing. But he's so interesting as a prospect. I mostly think that development for QBs is extremely overrated as a way to deal with the uncertainty of life, but for him, his age/pass attempts I think do need to be calibrated first.
  2. You know...Trent Balke didn't come out looking great in San Fran. He made the program in his image in Stanford. He burned bright and burned out in San Fran. And despite the outside noise, as he figured out the recruiting game and staff at Michigan he now would definitely be there a decade plus. He reminds me of Thibs except without the player burn out. He also is extremely lucky to be able to lean on his brothers NFL knowledge for staff.
  3. I think our priors should be that he will likely be retained, but if he's let go, it's because they know who they want. If you just want to make a change because you feel 100% he's not it (which they clearly don't believe), you fire him immediately and enter new process. Potential, however small, of some experienced coaches in Vrabel (a Vrabel + Arthur Smith pairing would be pretty great), and obviously Belicheck. But obviously main guy I'd like is Harbaugh. You should be working behind the scenes on them. For OC only...man that just brings some Bill Lazor stuff. No idea who hitches their wagon to Flus. Still would imagine a guy like Greg Olsen would be the best he could do. But oof we'll end up with Reich.
  4. OTC has their "effective cap space" much lower, due to the number of players on contract being only at 37 and having 2 first round picks to pay. Cutting Jackson/Whitehair does save about $20mil though, so would be around $58 million after that.
  5. https://x.com/robertkschmitz/status/1744156188453790138?s=46&t=9lkBcVJmwvxFpyVi5DNtCg Pretty much. If we build the perfect team around fields we could indeed be a top 14 offense!
  6. The point is between Stroud last night and Love tonight, you watched QBs who can run a passing offense. Fields just can’t. He can’t take the 4 yard pass when the 12 yard route isn’t going to be open. He can’t move primarily thru the air. You are never going to throw 15 times in a row with him, you’ll be three and out. But when those QBs make a bad throw or are pressured they say “aw see they are just like fields”. It’s hilarious.
  7. Because he keeps getting sacked and ending drives with any pressure? Those are pass plays guys. When he can’t make a third down play and can’t throw it…can’t pass
  8. Man Carolina gonna end up finishing season with 8 blanked quarters. I saw Jacob infante saying he’d like Thomas Brown as bears OC over Getsy. I don’t care how bad talent is…no offense of NfL players should be as bad on offense as that. Getsy at least can scheme a run game.
  9. Yeah I think if I was a GM I’d want people to find the high level abilities, character info…but beyond that trust we’d be unlikely to know who could do the insane processing ability of top nfl QBs. Just take swings and provide a stable environment. I’m a person who liked every QB in 2021. Everyone! This year? I like em all except not really Maye. Mayes game vs Miami did for me what Williams game vs ND did for others. Hell prolly be awesome. I thought Richardson would be bad and Stroud/Young would be good. I have no idea. And I don’t think nfl guys in their hearts do either.
  10. https://x.com/dan_bernstein/status/1744080955994677576?s=46&t=9lkBcVJmwvxFpyVi5DNtCg every pseudo smart person rushing the same take out. Guess what, football seasons are only 17 games! This is a meaningful percentage!
  11. Eh, I disagree. After the panthers traded for #1 Stroud became the favorite in the betting markets. Young retook that closer to the draft, but even day of there was heat about Levi’s/Richardson at 1. People thought Reich preferred bigger QBs, and Young’s height was a big deal. Bears brass also aren’t supposed to just take consensus picks as their options, so yes, they did pass on Stroud. And Richardson. And Young.
  12. My personal belief is Mike MacDonald is gonna go to the Patriots, they draft MHJ at 3 and trade for Fields, and absolutely crush it and horrify bears fans for the first 6 months. But I do think the popular mocks of Williams / Odunze at 1 and 10 are intoxicating . (I still want McConkey with that extra second, but maybe could even get Tez Walker)
  13. Brooks Boyer, tracing his fingers lovingly over the letters of his new slogan and rallying cry: “white Sox 2024: revamped org chart”
  14. I think Beck will rise. Missing that short AZ qb too, he’ll cause some conversations. Tough L for the “it takes 3 years to be competitive after getting a rookie qb” crowd last night.
  15. Can you blame them? They drafted him basically pointing to Judge
  16. I’ve harped on it all offseason but I 100% believe Hahn wanted players with high public rankings because he liked the media glaze post trade
  17. It’s fine. It’s just going to lead to Caulfield bringing in a bunch of yahoo articles about demographic declines and city rankings
  18. K. While the cosplay negotiations were tedious, we aren’t going to start just doing city flame war stuff. That’s only allowed for st louis. There won’t be punishments, I’m just going to hide it because I’m sure there is a Reddit for that stuff you can all go to.
  19. Yeah. I think by April we’ll think he’s a first rounder then at the draft he’ll be a 2nd/3rd. Remember last year there were some Hendon Hooker to the Seahawks (at 18) rumors. The red flags and outlier age are a big thing. But his arm thing where the ball shoots out of a cannon right on target is pretty cool too. truth be told I liked hooker last year a lot. Maybe the “man among boys” is less of an issue for QB where mental reps and more reps vs pressure is still valuable.
  20. Meh, it’s not like he’s a pitcher. Good QBs play until they are 35+. But yes, the evals are all over the place on them. But McCarthys age + offense makes him great to try to develop.
  21. I’m sorta there…but with pick 2. Im actually kinda out on the “pick the QB you have conviction on”. If anything, bears are lucky they don’t have to do that (they aren’t trading up to get “their guy). If anything NFL evaluators should be more humbled on this whole process. What seems improbable now (Penix/mccarthy end up best QB in the class) is what happens quite often. But that’s not that weird…it also happens with other positions. Still think haul + top 3 receiver + penix mccarthy + keep fields is a fine idea but seems crazy.
  22. I think they can cut bait after this year though. speaking of Giants…man did Joe Schoen flub inheriting 2 top seven picks. Thibodeauxs pressure rate is like 92nd in the league and Evan Neal is awful at OT. The jets walked out of the same draft with Sauce Gardener and Garrett Wilson. Woof.
  23. Just imagine if Theo changes extra innings to being decided by what team can reach the highest shelf
