  1. I never really thought there was a bias, it was just us having to recognize that the cubs have a sizably larger portion of Chicago's fan base. Sun Times wasn't much better, ever.
  2. I probably missed the party, but whatever, my internet sucks. Anyway, I think the problem with this story is that the soxtalk message board is so intuned that we understood the purpose of the story. After the original, "I came" messages that rightfully were posted (I participated), everyone knew a three way deal for Adrian Gonzalez would not get hammered out in a couple days. It would take time, it could fall apart, but for us this was what was interesting, and why I appreciated the story, and have a strong negative impression towards Cowley. 1. We have a GM that we are consistently unaware what will happen. We have an idea what our budget is (thanks to Kalapse, who posts an absolutely vital budget resource I've yet to find anywhere else) and that we're close to it. 2. We, as fans, know that we need a bat in this lineup. As presently constructed, we are awful on offense. 3. We know we finally have some legitimately attractive pieces to trade. We aren't even fooling ourselves with Broadway +Fields + crap for CABRERA!!!), Hudson is a legit prospect as is Flowers, J. Danks, etc. 4. We want to know if KW feels the same way. Regardless of the fact that this specific trade likely won't come to fruition, it gives us, the die hard, will post every day on the same topic fans, we learned a lot from this rumor, I'd say. 1. KW is more than likely looking to heavily upgrade our 1b/Dh/RF 2. Moving Konerko for financial flexibility is being explored 3. We are very interested in Adrian Gonzalez 4. By seeking a third team, we are looking for another team to share the burden of prospects, or help put together a better package. Now, the common fan might just hear this, disregard the semantics and say OMG GONZALEZ, or who is Adrian Gonzalez, and a busy reporter might just say "no way it happens, don't need to report", or, they already have Kendry, etc. Blah blah, ignoring DH. Whatever. And maybe that's where this ran into trouble. But for me, and a lot of other fans on this sight, this provided legitimate insight into the offseason, irregardless if it died quickly. This, obviously would be a complicated deal EASILY held up by money. But I don't think the GMJ speculations would be that far off in this hypothetical. I mean, Angels parting with a bad contract, getting a 1 yr deal DH that isn't a great contract but better than GMJs, it makes sense why they were approached in this deal. But I understand Cowley is too busy beating his chest. I realize he's in a competitive industry and has one of about 50 jobs. But, his response was ridiculous, and if he honestly thinks marginalizing a sizeable potential audience for him is a good idea, I won't have any problem with schadenfreude when the ST goes bankrupt and he's watching Star Trek in his parents basement blogging about the White Sox. In fact, I'll be the first to say Ha! Ha!
  3. Oh, now I see why the republicans are so flabbergasted obama hasn't yet made a decision that affects American's lives in Afghanistan. All Bush had to do was ask God (or Kristol or Cheney, depending which God he was talking to), Obama is actually going through different options.
  4. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 11:59 PM) His beats are too busy for me. Like they'd give me a headache if I listen to them with headphones on. Going to see Brother Ali & Evidence at the Metro tonight. So excited. even on labor day?
  5. So, Sen. Sessions (R-backwater craziness), just had opening statements saying that these men (tha terrorists) were prisoners of war. WHAT THE HELL?!?! First they wanted them to be called enemy combatants to avoid the Geneva Convention, now they are saying they are POWs? What the hell is he talking about?
  6. Anytime you are polling as pulling 40% or more of your base, that's popular.
  7. She, being a former VP candidate, is clearly not going away. And she's making sure of it. I also think it's false to say she isn't popular among republicans. Clearly the numbers of people she draws are not democrats.
  8. And this new consensus that our justice system is completely rigged for the defense is so hilariously false.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 06:40 AM) Flowers got busted for PED's as a minor leaguer. ah. Well, then, yes, I'd say nicknaming yourself is worse than steroids.

    Coroner

I always assume they pick a party for funding or to benefit from an area where straight ticket voting occurs.
  11. Well, to be fair, greenwald went on a rampage because only a certain number of suspects were chosen for public trial. Many others are still kind of in limbo. So I'm thinking he has a pretty tight seal on these cases. These men are being tried because their verdict is certain. It's not exactly a true symbol of our legal system, but, whatever, I just want them convicted and GITMO's jail shut down.
  12. also funny, I just realized, is clearly my name is my first initial and first couple letters. Ah, it was self-hating.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 03:03 AM) So steroids = ok, nicknaming oneself = not ok? I'm on the record as some sort of steroids apologist?
  14. Right, those are hypotheticals, but one, Holder clearly would not have held a trial if he didn't believe he had a convictable amount of evidence that wasn't gathered through torture (and, as has been documented extensively, there was a while he wasn't tortured and information was gathered). As for the technicality part, that's fairly absurd. BUt I'll reference a couple posts http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/...f_people_--.php http://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/archives...nd-warriors.php There is not a chance in hell they get acquitted. But also, even if some charges they get off to on technical grounds, there are loads of charges they can be put on. That deferential to the gov't in terror cases is an understatement, cases with truly light evidence (liberty six, imo) still ended up in them getting substantial jail time.
  15. Here's an absolutely vital article to read: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/comme...in-1821215.html If you guys want to talk about real news, I'm here.
  16. flowers named himself TFlow? Ugh. I don't like him anymore. Accountability, (referring to Flash (btw what up flash)), in sports trade winds is just as non-existent with established media. There's a reason we called Levine the Carpetbomber or whatever, I don't know what the hell we called him, but it had something to do with reporting everything. And frankly, I knew we'd be in the Gonzalez sweepstakes in terms of interest. BUt the interesting thing was konerko moving to get cash for it. SO anyways, f*** off cowley.
  17. If we do land Gonzalez I really don't want him to be called AGon, that trend should die.
  18. As a journalism major from a top 3 program, I can assure you there was nothing I learned that I couldn't have after one week on the job. And sports journalism, hoo man, they are just a joke.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is going to morph into a robotic ninja and destroy New York with his laser vision, and then spew anti-American propaganda that's more effective than what he has in the past and turn everyone against America. Last night on the house floor, the idiot Rep from Arizona that held a baby in his hands for health care, asked Mayor Bloomberg (wtf i can´t find quote buttons either) ´You say you´re tough, well how will you feel when Al Qaida kid naps your daughter?´ I mean what the hell?
  20. Think I´ll write this here, also, I can´t find apostrophes on a portuguese keyboard, so bear with me. When did Republicans start to think it´s okay to act completely terrified by the terrorists. What happened to bring it on? I get the they aren´t citizens therefore shouldn´t be held in civilian courts arguments, I get that. BUt the OMG THE TERRORISTS ARE COMING arguments? What the hell? Grow a f***ing pair.
  21. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 02:31 AM) they did, but then Texeira showed up, left, and the Angels found a rising star in Kendry Morales, who is much more in his prime at 26, has much better numbers as a switch hitter, and is making less than 10% of PK's money--and for those of us locals who've watched him play all season, can tell you intangibly he's simply a better total pkg than PK, even taking money out of the equation. There's no logic in why the Angels would replace him But they wouldn't be replacing him.
  22. Okay, i say we ban anyone that reports on any early stages of player acquisition, or any fan who puts out hypotheticals... annnnnd enjoy off-season.
  23. thanks steve, unfortunately the internet here makes those streams look like photo slideshows with choppy sound.
  24. Damn, what if we pick up Adrian then sign for cheap one of the many DHs to be had. So many sick possibilities right now. Happy we have a GM who will continually work to get this done.
